CBS Report on Copy Machines

Very interesting article on copy machines saving information on hard drives!

Do you use you employers copy machines for personal infromation? How much personal information are you leaving out there?

Oh no, more stuff to worry about. I don't think I've used public copiers since I got a scanner, though.

When I first watched the clip, one of the things was the IRS. How many people do their 1040 forms then take them to work to make a copy for themselves?

Names of every family member, ages, social security numbers, home addresses and total income...now that is scary!

The bad guys out there can sit down, see what kind of income there is for a family and decide if the house is worthwhile to go shopping at! Not including “Identity Theft”...it’s almost like ‘trick or treat’ for those scandalous people!

I made some copies at work of some sensitive documents when my mom died. Sometimes you just have to do what you have to do when you are required to send original documents off and you are under a deadline.

I was aware that my employer could possibly see those documents, but I guess I never thought that a future buyer of that machine could or would be a criminal who is interested in the data...
