"Does Facebook Make You Sad? Study Says Yes"

"Step away from the mouse.

"Clicking through your friends’ photos of rooftop drinks, or beautiful beach sunsets from their latest vacations on Facebook while you are stuck in the office can make you feel a bit down, according to a new study.

"A new study from the University of Michigan finds that Facebook (NASDAQ: FB) use may dampen users’ happiness levels. The study considered Facebook users’ satisfaction with their lives over time.  Researchers studied 82 young adults with Facebook accounts and smart phones, using experienced sampling,  which the study claims is one of the most reliable techniques in measuring how people feel, think and behave in the moment.

"They were texted at random five times a day for two weeks with the questions of: How do you feel right now? How worried are you right now? How lonely do you feel right now? How much have you used Facebook since the last time we asked? How much have you interacted with other people “directly” since the last time we asked?

"Over the two- week study, the more sunjects used the social networking giant, the more their life satisfaction declined over time."

Oh no.  A nation of sad peole.  Maybe Facebook should supply antidepresssants with each account.  I seem to be sad enough without Facebook.  With it, I might become suicidal.

I usually smile when I see pictures and comments from my friends. I think someone repeatedly bugging me with those questions 5 times a day for two weeks would depress me.

I'm amazed at some of the stupid shit people post and how much of their personal lives they post.

I'm not talking about their recipes, animals or likes and dislikes, I'm talking about information they post where it's great info for a stalker!

I'm surprised the study wasn't done on those that follow twitter, interesting choice of targets but I can't agree. I think it has to do with their choice to who they connect with and who they follow. Being back in touch with friends from many years ago makes me happy, definitely not sad.

If anything depresses on these site, get off and stay off. People make their own lives. If you are incapable then some of these posts by people should slap you into having some fun.
If I need to have fun I don't get depressed. Seek and ye shall find . Haters are on all sites. If I am happy I feel it is a trade of the many 16 hours shifts I do.

I buy that In some cases, but In others, It's wonderful, and funny, some of the posts people put up. Beautiful photos, of many things, including animals make ME happy. I personally enjoy the political part of It, and the slamming of certain consumer products, makes me happy. It's a venue for so many different things. It's fun to find really old friends, that are now COMPLETE A-Holes, so you don't have to wonder about them any longer. It's fun to see peoples pictures, after they aged 45 years. Makes me feel good, I'm not the only one that looks like Father Time. I enjoy It.

I don't know that much about Facebook or the study, but I bet there's a flaw somewhere. It's hard to believe that billions of people daily log onto a site that depresses them. Then again, look at the news sites ...
