I just came home from grocery shopping. Bought two rib eye steaks....thirty three dollars and change. Oh boy. I really feel for young families these days. Who could afford to pay that while raising a family? Good gravy. I know they will be great, but still......
I bought fruit and vegetables, a bottle of wine (shocked, aren't you), some yogurt, couple baking potatoes, one package of cheese, hot dogs, bread, buns...stuff like that. I spent way over $200. Not really a lot of pricey stuff other than the steaks. Bought a couple of pork chops...about seven bucks...chicken breasts at about five. Normal prices.
I will tell you I will be going back to Sam's for my steaks in the future. I can get them for about two thirds what the meat counter at the grocery store charges!

It's been about two years since I last bought a half steer so inflation and stuff but it was $1185 for 210 lbs. Them better be restaurant quality ribbies for that price. If you are on a budget and love that ribeye flavor try a chuck eye, much cheaper, same flavor and texture.
I'm with you Bee Jay. I don't know how families are doing it with the prices the way they are. We don't eat steak that much anymore but the last time I bought 2 it was over $25 for both.
Because KK posted a good recipe the other day Orbs mentioned sloppy joes so that is what we're having tonight. Four lbs of hamburger was $16.
I can't imagine how bad it's going to get with the drought in California.
Cargill just laid off a large quantity of workers because there isn't enough cattle to process. This whole problem and subsequent shortage was contrived to escalate the prices.
I'm fed up hearing that the cost of fuel, or the weather destroying crops, or some other lame reason will cause prices "this season" to climb. We are being taken to the cleaners, and someone is profiting from it.
I rarely buy beef. Ive been getting creative with chicken and fish. By the way, the recipe I posted, next attempt will have some kitchen bouquet added. It tasted great, but the color wasn't as appealing as it could have been.
We won't be having steak for a bit now. I use a lot of chicken and fish like kk.
Made burgers tonight...the Wisconsin way...tomorrow we get steak.
BeeJay, My brother who lives In Jacksonville doesn't seem to mind, but he's crazy like the rest of the family. He goes to Pubics, and pay's terribly high prices for steaks. I wait until our store here has T-Bones at like 8.99 and buy two, and cut the tenderloins off for the Mrs. and cut the strips off for me. I get them so thick, I usually just cook one and freeze the other strip.
Our Sam's has rib eyes for either 8.99/lb or 9.99 all the time. I love Publix ... They are a bit more expensive, but it get the service. The people go above and beyond. Very customer oriented. They have a lot of bogos. (Buy one, get one).
That being said, I normally buy my steaks at Sam's. This was pure laziness on my part. I would have to bring one batch of groceries home before going to the other store. The cold pack doesn't work for more than a few minutes at this time of the year in FL.

A tariff is imposed on products coming in, we need to put a tariff on products being shipped out of the US and make it HIGH.
ZERO tax breaks for any company who moves out of the US and/or ships their products back into the US. AND make them warranty their products 100% no matter how cheap they are for a minimum of 10 years!
Mr. D wanted to know why they didn't show up to cook those steaks. In all fairness, no one could beat his steaks! Yum, yum.
