In addition to the playground and splash pad, Campus Park will be the site of four concerts this summer.

MOUNT PLEASANT — Several outdoor community events are on the horizon in Mount Pleasant as the weather starts to warm up.

At the Village Board’s April 28 meeting, Mount Pleasant Tourism Manager Matt Prochaska announced upcoming summer activities in the village, both new and returning.

Campus Park concerts

Formerly called Mount Pleasant Music, the Sounds at Sunset series will bring bands to Campus Park, 8500 Campus Drive, on four Tuesdays this summer.

The concert series is free to attend and open to all ages. Concerts begin at 6:30 p.m.

The park’s playgrounds and splash pad also will be open.

Food will be available to purchase from rotating food trucks. Drinks are available for purchase from the Racine Founder’s Rotary Club.

Parking is available on site and nearby at Mount Pleasant Village Hall, 8811 Campus Drive, and surrounding streets.

The concert lineup is as follows:

  • June 17 – Stephen Hull Experience (Blues)
  • July 8 – The LoveMonkeys (Pop and Reggae)
  • July 29: Betsy Ade & the Well-Known Strangers (Alternative Pop/Rock)
  • Aug. 19: Dancing Queen: An ABBA Salute

In addition to the Sounds at Sunset series, the village will host a free bluegrass concert featuring four bands from 5:30-9:30 p.m. June 21 at Campus Park.

Prochaska said the bands will be announced at a later date.

More events

The Tour of America’s Dairyland bike race will return to the area June 30 on the Microsoft and Foxconn properties with various timed races.

Five-mile races for “junior” boys ages 13-14 will begin at 10 a.m., followed by “junior” girls ages 13-14, boys 11-12 and girls 11-12.

Races on the 10-mile course start at 11:30 a.m., starting with junior boys and girls ages 15-16 and followed by the 65-69, 70-74, 75-79, 80-84 and 85 and older age groups.

Races on the final, 12.5-mile course begin at 1:30 p.m. with men ages 35-39.

A new event, “Chalk the Walk,” on Aug. 23 will bring local artists to Campus Park to create sidewalk chalk art and give families the opportunity to create chalk art.

“Chalk the Walk” is about returning to the “basics” of summer activities, Prochaska said.

“This is getting back into, you know, the summer as a kid, where all you had was chalk and you’re out on the sidewalk,” he said. “The whole goal with that one was to bring people into our parks and by all means, have fun, be artistic.”

The tourism department intends to make a festival out of this event down the line, depending on residents’ responses, according to Prochaska.
