Pope Francis had a unique ability at linking seemingly disparate issues such as social justice, worker’s rights, the plight of immigrants and the poor, and the economy with the increasingly devastating threats of a changing climate. Having published encyclicals on climate change, he drew a moral throughline between these issues by stating that the concern for the natural world is no longer “‘optional’ but is an integral part of the Church teaching on social justice.”

He called for swift and unified global action but always remained hopeful that governments would do the right thing. Then came President Donald Trump.

Trump’s attendance at the Pope’s funeral is a direct insult to Francis’s legacy. Trump’s first 100 days in office reveal a glaring lack of empathy for the struggles of ordinary Americans let alone “care for our common home” that Pope Francis devoted his entire life to.

Defunding research on science, ignoring the rule of law, indiscriminately firing federal workers, slashing funding for Head Start, decimating USAID or depriving people of due process protections does not align with Christian moral values, values Trump pretended to embody by going to the Pope’s funeral. Shameful.

Unfortunately, Pope Francis' concern with "social justice" did not extend to the rampant pedophilia in the Catholic Church, nor did he cash in one penny of the billions of dollars worth of stolen art and artifacts that the Vatican sits on to help the poor.  Just the usual bullshit and lies from Catholics who believe that they are better than others.  Disgusting "religion."

Referencing the article published on Dec. 21, "Medical marijuana likely to come up again in 2025," Assembly Speaker Robin Vos is seemingly adamant about not even considering the legalization of recreational marijuana, thus precluding the very obvious benefits of doing so.

The potential for substantial tax revenues that would accrue from the legalization of marijuana across the board is not a myth but an established fact as evidenced by the revenues reaped by our neighboring states of Illinois and Michigan, who both made millions last year.

Once again Wisconsin lags behind other, more progressive states concerning an issue that a majority of Wisconsin residents support. There are many reasons to legalize marijuana in Wisconsin, not the least of which is "the will of the people."

You need ID to drive, get hotel room or board plane. Using it to vote shouldn't be burden.

Regarding the article “Voter ID laws disenfranchise thousands,” it is stated needing to have an ID disenfranchises a voter (Aug. 1).

Requiring an ID to vote shouldn't disenfranchise anyone. I need one for doctor appointments, to buy alcohol, cash a check, check in at a hotel, get on a plane, rent an apartment, drive a car. On any given day you can be asked to confirm your identity.

The article also stated that voters (in Ohio) didn't know that the rules had changed. One has an obligation to know certain things, and the rules for voting is one of them.

What does disenfranchise voters is the obnoxious partisan ballot that gets put out for the primaries. If someone wants to vote for a Democrat for office A, a Republican for office B and a Libertarian for office C they should be able to do so.
