Motherfucking All Saints

I'm an Aurora person.  However, my nephrologist ordered some tests done for me that have to be done in a hospital.  THB has been nice enough to offer a ride to and back from the appointment.  I don't want her (or anyone) to have to drive to Kenosha for me.  So it's being done at All Saints or whatever the hell they are calling themselves these days.

I called yesterday to preregister and was told to report at 12:45 pm.  That's weird because my appointment says to report at noon.  I brought this up to whoever I was talking to and she connected me with the radiology department.  The woman there said I don't have to be there until 12:45 pm,  Suspicious, I called again today.  Today I was told to report at 11:45 am.  Three different people giving me three different times to report.  Each one says, "Listen only to me."  The last one hung up on me, so I don't even know if I have an appointment or not anymore.

If they can't even handle figuring out what time I should report tomorrow, how can I trust the accuracy of their tests?  I've already been told that this is "usually a morning procedure."  I have less and less faith in the people there every time I deal with them.  When they treated me for failed kidneys there, I left with blood pressure so low it was life threatening.  The next day my regular doctor's technician took my blood pressure and then looked at me real closely and asked, "How do you feel?"

So, I'm forced to entrust my life to people I don't trust.  Never get sick.

"Before taking this medicine"

"You should not use gabapentin if you are allergic to it.

"To make sure gabapentin is safe for you, tell your doctor if you have:
  • kidney disease (or if you are on dialysis);
  • epilepsy or other seizure disorder;
  • diabetes;
  • liver disease;
  • a history of depression, mood disorder, drug abuse, or suicidal thoughts or actions;
  • heart disease; or
  • (for patients with RLS) if you are a day sleeper or work a night shift.
"Some people have thoughts about suicide while taking this medicine. Your doctor will need to check your progress at regular visits while you are using gabapentin.

"Your family or other caregivers should also be alert to changes in your mood or symptoms."

In other words, this drug may kill me.

Attention!

God, I feel sorry for the old-timers who live here.  We get notes like this posted all over the place.  Simple stuff, like telling people not to throw trash in the hallways.  When they dropped the 55 age limit, the animals started moving in.

Someone on a bike is doing donuts in the basement parking area.  People are propping doors open that are supposed to remain shut.  I hear stereos blasting.  And on and on.  These are our "golden years."

"Main Street bridge to be repaired, closed this month"

From The Journal Times.com:

March 04, 2015 7:20 pm  •  CARA SPOTO cara.spoto@journaltimes.com
"RACINE — The Main Street lift bridge will undergo emergency repairs later this month to fix cracks in its locking system.

"The cracks don’t pose a danger to motorists or others traveling across the bridge, but Public Works officials say the problem needs to be fixed to ensure the bridge is in working order ahead of boating season.

"The U.S. Coast Guard requires the city to staff and open and bridge by April 1 of each year.

"In a letter to the Public Works and Services Committee, Assistant Public Works Commissioner Tom Eeg explained that this winter, bridge inspectors had noticed problems with two parts of the bridge’s locking system — a tip lock and guide arm."

This damn bridge is a lemon.  I believe that's it's been closed for repair numerous times a year during boating season.  They're always working on it.

This illustrates to me the bullshit power of "New and Improved."  We had to give a ton of money to Main Marine because they claimed that the bridge would divert traffic away from them.  They ended up closing, anyway.

I remember the old bridge with wooden planks for a "sidewalk."  It worked fine.  But, no, someone had to spend taxpayers' money on something.

I used to drive down Main Street every day to see mom.  I hated it when the bridge was closed.  Now, it will affect me little.

The Truth Will NOT Set You Free

For some reason, I have trouble learning that lesson.  I have a tendency to blurt out the truth at “inappropriate” moments, and then suffer the consequences.  The truth about the truth is that almost no one is interested in it.  After 12 years of an education that supposedly stressed honesty and truth, I graduated to the reality that honesty is rarely the best policy.  Lying is how you get ahead.  Demanding the truth is how you get broke.

I was whining recently to my shrink about my problems.  Her response was to tell me that I should be proud that I live “a life of integrity.”  I said, “That and two bucks will get you a cup of coffee."  Seriously, what good is it to act ethically in an unethical world?  Lying John and his buddies are living proof of the success of dishonesty.  No matter what one may believe about a “judgment day” after death, the truth is that Dickert and his buddies will be prosperous and long gone when the bills for their crimes come due.

It’s hardly just Dickert.  Dishonesty pervades politics like cancer.  We piss and moan about it, but we’re not going to do anything about it.  The politicians know that.  They rely on our apathy.  They are rarely disappointed.  You can complain all you want, but it means nothing if it’s not working towards unseating the unscrupulous scoundrels infesting our public life.

Locally, Alderman Kaplan was a big mouthed, loose cannon packing heat.  The bag of wind was constantly spouting off about the people he supposedly represents, casting Racine residents as villains in their own city.  He even convinced the Common Council to arm themselves against the citizens.  Funny, isn’t it, how quiet he’s become since his seat on the Common Council was threatened?  That’s the only thing that corrupt politicians understand.  Take away their power and they’re just petty criminals.

Why do we indoctrinate our children with the notion of right and wrong if we’re not willing to defend it?  I don’t know and I don’t think I care anymore.  I’ve been a fool.  Today I stand to lose literally everything that I own because I blurted out the truth.  Building management took offense at my comments and my lease is not being renewed before the bedbugs have been eradicated from the building.  Thus, I can’t take anything with me for fear of infestation.

That’s it.  That’s the last shot to the nuts that I take for the truth.  From now on, I’m to be known as lying Orbs.  I was an extremely successful liar when I was drinking.  Imagine how much better I’ll be at it sober.

Party on, lying Orbs!

"AP's ban on the term 'illegal immigrant' sparks fierce debate"

"There has long been debate about the term 'illegal immigrant."

Some immigrant activists believe the term unfairly demonizes undocumented immigrants, though the term is still commonly used by news organizations.

"On Tuesday, however, one of the world's biggest news organizations said it would stop using 'illegal immigrants.'

"In a blog post, Associated Press Executive Editor Kathleen Carroll explained:

"The stylebook no longer sanctions the term 'illegal immigrant' or the use of 'illegal' to describe a person. Instead, it tells users that “illegal” should describe only an action, such as living in or immigrating to a country illegally.

"Why did we make the change?

"The discussions on this topic have been wide-ranging and include many people from many walks of life. (Earlier, they led us to reject descriptions such as 'undocumented,' despite ardent support from some quarters, because it is not precise. A person may have plenty of documents, just not the ones required for legal residence.)

"The new AP policy notes that 'illegal' refers to the action, not the person. 'Acceptable variations include living in or entering a country illegally or without legal permission,' the AP wrote."

I agree that they shouldn't be called illegal immigrants, because immigrants come into the US using the proper channels, not sneaking into the country in the dead of night.  The proper term for them is illegal aliens.  Of course, the AP and other news organizations strive constantly to control our political thoughts.  Instead of just reporting the news and letting us decide its import, they want to control what we think and say.  Screw you, AP.  They are illegal, they are aliens, and they are invaders.  They have undermined our economy and steal benefits.  You can't compete against people who don't follow the rules of business.  They don't pay insurance or unemployment tax or report their earnings.  They are allowed to undercut every legal operation, and then cry poor.  They are destroying the building trades.

I am fed up with ignorant and/or stupid and/or rude people!

That is all.

Rant du jour

My primary care physician is an Aurora doctor, so most of my tests, etc., are done through Aurora.  However, my psychiatrist is affiliated with Wheaton Franciscan.  Both medical groups employ robocalls to remind patients of upcoming appointments.

The robocalls from Wheaton Franciscan end with the statement, “Please arrive thirty minutes prior to your appointment time.”  The first time, of course, I arrived thirty minutes early.  When I asked the receptionist why I was told to arrive thirty minutes early, she didn’t even know what the robocalls contained.  She said, “Just ignore it.”  So I did. Still, it bothered me that I am given an appointment months in advance, but a robocall changes the time two days before the appointment.

I was proud that Aurora robocall reminders don’t tell you to arrive early.  Ha.  I was proud until I received my reminder call from Aurora for a doctor’s appointment this week.  It said to arrive twenty minutes early.

I also received one from Wheaton Franciscan for another appointment this week.  Now they are saying to arrive fifteen minutes early, instead of thirty.  I complained to a number of people at WF about their robocall reminders.  Maybe someone listened.

Today I saw my Aurora doctor.  I got there 2 minutes before my appointment time.  I had to wait about five minutes before I was shown into an examination room. Nobody said anything about arriving twenty minutes early.

It’s insulting to be told to arrive early for appointments.  Time thieves are the worst thieves, for no one can recover what they take.
