A little while sgo, a guy called from TWC to ask if anyone feom TWC has ever reached out to me. "No," I said. So he apologizes for that and said he's a representative of TWC who will stay on my case until it's resolved permanently. He gave me his number to call if I needed to. It has a Madison area code. He kept repeating that he will stay with the case until it's resolved. I told him I had a tech coming out tomorrow. "Good," he said. "I'll have him report directly to me. Whatever the problem is, we're going to fix it. I promise you that."
I thanked and thanked him.
You would not believe the war that I"ve been having with Spectrum/TWC. First off, I don't exist when either system is checked for me. Then why do I have to pay? Or can I pay with non-evistent money?
I don't want to read too much into this. I've been raped and lied to by TWC so many times before.
We'll see, we'll see.
* * * * *
A technician arrived this morning and started performing all sorts of tests. Pretty soon his supervisor showed up. The technician then gave a long laundry list of everything that is wrong with my computer (and tablet) and said most of it couldn't be corrected, but he would try. That's when I stopped them and threw them out. The service guy kept saying it was impossible for Windows XP to receive 70 Mbps. I told him I received it for months, Until Spectrum took over. They set up all the reasons they're gonna fail and then they want to go at it. Not on my computer. Would you let a mechanic work on your car if he first gave you a long list of why he's going to fail? I don't know what I'm going to do at this point.
Btw, there's 2 Spectrums out there. There's the one that merged with Charter and TWC, and there's the one that stands alone. Go to Spectrum.com. Call one of the numbers and ask a question about your account. You'll be told that they don't have your account and you should call the old Time Warner Cable number. When you call them, they insist that they're Spectrum.
Would you let a guy work on your car if he couldn't even find it? What horseshit.
Interestingly, my download speed has been in the 70's since they left.
* * * * *
I called TWC this afternoon because I've been having trouble with my email. The guy fixed it almost instantly. I told him about my troubles with Spectrum. He said, "Did they tell you your operating system is too old?" "Yeah," I said. He said he has XP running on a computer at home at it's doing just fine. More smoke and mirrors from the elite. They will do everything but fix the problem. Offers to maybe fix the problem but more likely to do more damage don't count.

"Charter says changes coming for Time Warner Cable customers"
From JSOnline:
By Rick Barrett of the Journal Sentinel
"Now that it dominates Wisconsin's cable television market, Charter Communications faces its next challenge: winning customer satisfaction where, often, it's been lacking.
"Charter, with the recent acquisition of Time Warner Cable, now has about 90% of the traditional cable business in Wisconsin — a figure that's disturbing to consumer advocates who say the lack of competition in the cable industry fuels poor customer service and high rates.
"'People are kind of stuck with what they have, and I mean really stuck,' said Linda Sherry, director of national priorities at Consumer Action, a San Francisco-based advocacy group.
"Stamford, Conn.-based Charter, now that it owns Time Warner Cable, is moving into Milwaukee and other markets under the brand name Spectrum.
"The changes aren't noticeable yet, but they're starting this year and will take place over the next 18 months.
"'In the coming months, you will hear more from us as it relates to network, product and service improvements,' Charter CEO Tom Rutledge said in a recent letter to Time Warner Cable customers.
"The changes will include an all-digital network with faster internet speeds, no modem lease fee and a plethora of television channels under various bundle plans, according to Charter.
"Yet critics of the Time Warner Cable acquisition say consumers will likely remain skeptical as they've never seen much competition in the paid television marketplace, and this won't help on that front.
"'We are not big on mergers, and we especially think that mergers in the cable industry can be a real problem for consumers because it just shrinks the available vendors down to usually one in an area,' Sherry said.
"In the 2015 American Customer Satisfaction Index, Charter and Time Warner Cable had comparable scores — of 57 and 58, respectively — of a possible 100 points for internet service. Charter scored 63 for subscription television, while Time Warner Cable's score was 51.
"Charter says it's attracting more customers and keeping customers longer, yet it acknowledges the industry's critics.
"'Cable companies talk about improving service a lot because there's a lot of improving to do,' said Charter spokesman Justin Venech.
"The company says it's bringing more than 10,000 outsourced customer service jobs back to the United States.
"Combined, Charter and Time Warner Cable have about 90,000 employees nationwide and 3,900 in Wisconsin, including customer service centers and offices in Milwaukee, Appleton and Fond du Lac.
"Charter says it plans to add about 20,000 jobs nationally as it expands into new markets and adds subscribers.
"'I don't know how many of those would be in Milwaukee, but I can tell you that we are looking at adding jobs across the company,' Venech said.
"Over time, the Time Warner Cable name will be replaced by Spectrum.
"Some industry experts say the Time Warner and Charter duo won't need as many employees as the separate companies had in areas such as customer service, billing and marketing.
"Watch for what happens to the customer service centers in Wisconsin a year from now, said Barry Orton, a recently retired telecommunications professor at University of Wisconsin-Madison.
"It's unlikely that Charter will keep all of those jobs, Orton said.
"Charter says it will use fewer outside contractors for home service calls. It says customer bills will be easier to decipher, and there will be fewer fees.
"For now, Time Warner Cable customers can keep their television and internet services and pricing.
"'If a customer likes what they are receiving today, and how they are receiving it, we aren't going to force them into a new package,' Venech said.
"Charter television customers will still be required to lease the "set-top" box from the company.
"Consumer advocates say the lease fees amount to a huge profit center for cable companies, at the expense of customers who have no choice in the matter.
"'You will be renting that same old box for years. I remember once, when I moved to Washington, D.C., I was given a box that had cockroaches in it,' Sherry said.
"Time Warner Cable customers could get better television reception and more channels under the Charter digital network that's coming their way.
The company's reputation in Wisconsin isn't terrible compared with some other cable providers over the years, according to Orton.
"'Charter has been reasonably good in Madison in the last year or two. There have been very few outages, and the company has been reasonably responsive to them,' he said.
"As it settles into Milwaukee and other new markets, Charter says it will launch community service initiatives such as a program that helps people with home repairs, weather stripping and smoke detectors.
"The company has pledged to improve 25,000 homes nationwide by 2020.
"Charter says it will offer a $14.99-per-month internet plan for low-income families and seniors who receive Supplemental Security Income.
"Also, the company says it will extend broadband service to some areas that currently are not served or have slower broadband speeds.
"Skeptics say there's not much recourse for consumers or regulators if Charter doesn't fulfill its obligations under the Time Warner Cable acquisition.
"'If you are counting on the FCC and the federal government, I wish you a lot of luck,' Orton said.
"AT&T's U-verse television service is an alternative to cable in Milwaukee and other cities, but not in every neighborhood. Increasingly, AT&T is placing more emphasis on its DirecTV satellite service.
"'We are leading our video marketing approach with DirecTV,' said AT&T spokeswoman Samara Sodos.
"One competitive threat to cable providers is the trend of 'cord cutting,' where customers drops their cable subscription in favor of video streaming services such as Netflix or Hulu.
"That's the new normal for adults ages 18 to 34, according to a report from Horowitz Research. Millennials spend 54% of their TV viewing time streaming programs over the internet, according to Horowitz.
"The trend is 'absolutely growing and growing,' Sherry said, partly from more on-demand video that is tailored to individual interests and schedules.
"She added, 'We have all joked about the 300 channels on cable, and you only watch five. I think most people could find video streaming choices that give them what they want to watch.'"

Hallelujah! - "Say goodbye to Time Warner Cable: sale leads to name change"
From The Journal Times.com:
MARLEY JAY Associated Press 0
"Time Warner, the largest cable provider in New York and Los Angeles, among other markets, was just bought by Charter Communications Inc., which has mostly operated in the Midwest. The Stamford, Connecticut-based company also bought Bright House Networks Wednesday. That makes Charter the second-largest home Internet provider and third-largest video provider in the U.S. Over the next year and a half, Charter will phase out the Time Warner Cable and Bright House names in favor of its own brand, Spectrum.
"New Spectrum subscribers will probably like some things. Charter will continue trying to boost Internet speeds and won’t have usage-based billing or caps on how much data customers can use. Its prices are generally lower than Time Warner Cable’s, and Charter says it will use its size to negotiate better deals with channel owners.
"Aguilar said Time Warner Cable in particular is seen as a static, distant company that doesn’t care about its customers. (Emphasis added.) But Charter has an opportunity to change that now. Comcast renamed its cable business Xfinity in 2010, and Aguilar said consumers like Xfinity as a brand.
"'If they marry the name with significant improvements in the customer experience, they could have something very interesting,' he said.
"But that might be tough. Over time, cable bills are likely to keep rising. The merger means Spectrum will have even less competition to keep prices down. Many of Time Warner’s cheaper deals, which offer slower Internet speeds, will go away. Costs for cable companies are still rising because they pay high prices for the rights to carry channels on cable lineups, and those increases get passed on to consumers.
"Those kinds of annoyances make complaining about cable companies a fact of life for a lot of people. From rising bills to unexplained outages to long hold times on the phone and lengthy and long waits for service, there’s always something to keep customers unhappy with their provider. Time Warner, which tried to merge with also-hated Comcast in 2015, had been acknowledging that lately. Its ads last year nodded toward typical cable company shortcomings, and in recent weeks the company has run an ad campaign that says it’s 'Changing for Good.' The ads say its service has improved and 99 percent of its technicians arrive within the one-hour appointment window consumers are given."

Warner Cable is going away, and that means you might have a new cable
company to hate. But you might find one you like better instead.

More Time Warner Cable wars...
TWC was supposed to be here today between 3 pm and 4 pm to replace my modem, or whatever is screwing up my telephone service.
They never showed.
About five minutes after 4 pm, I received a call from TWC saying that my appointment has been rescheduled for tomorrow.
"Who rescheduled it?" I asked.
"I don't know," the rep said.
I told them to fuck it. How do I know I wouldn't be waiting more hours tomorrow for a no-show?
TWC sucks in every possible way. I'm gonna take a hard look at what Ma Bell has to offer. I'm tired of being shit on by TWC.

Fucked Again by TWC
My bill keeps creeping up every month. I tried to find out why. After 1 and 1/2 hours on the phone, I was still given no rational reason. They just charge what they want to who they want.
Above is this month's bill and my payment. I hope they enjoy it.
Oh, I had to go through three customer service reps before I got one that spoke English and wasn't in a call center where other people are yelling. The last guy I spoke to was in the Philippines. Think he gives a shit what happens here? Ha.
I realize that my immature reaction to my TWC woes won't even be seen by TWC initially, but I believe that persistence pays off. I messed with the bill's barcode, so the computer wilt spit it out and it'll have to be processed manually. I say 3 or 4 months of that and the payment center will contact TWC and say, "We have a problem." Little old me.
I'm thinking of having a "FUCK YOU!" rubber stamp made. That could come in very handy.

More Problems with Racine's Ethics Board and Cable Commission
From Racine Community Media:
"City of Racine pushes Formal Ethics Complaint of Mary Osterman to Cable Commission, which Mary Osterman (the accused) is a member!!!!!!! And also the secretary!!!!
"All this was done prior to any action or discussion by the City of Racine Ethics Board!!! The community is asking questions as to the procedure used, and just how a Formal Ethics Complaint could be discussed in a City Cable Meeting with the person being accused in the complaint, without it going to the Ethics Board first?"

"Experts predict price increases after cable merger"
From The Journal Times.com:
"RACINE COUNTY — The planned Time Warner-Comcast merger won’t impact Racine County customers right away, but changes will certainly be felt if and when the deal becomes final.
"What exactly those changes will be remains to be seen, experts say. A lot depends on whether Time Warner’s Milwaukee operations are consolidated with Comcast’s in Chicago, said Barry Orton, University of Wisconsin professor of telecommunications.
"Doing so could save the company money, but might not benefit consumers, he said.
“'Customer service is probably going to get worse' under that scenario, Orton said, though he added that Comcast and Time Warner generally get high customer-service marks compared to other cable companies.
"Orton and Marquette economics professor Abdur Chowdhury agreed that costs will likely go up. The merger will grow Comcast’s customer base from 22 million to 30 million, which gives it a higher national market share and will lead to a price increase locally, Chowdhury said.
“'In the long run, we will see an increase in price,' he said.
"Orton said the cost of Racine County residents’ cable will probably go up because, well, it always does. It has gone up consistently since Congressional action in 1992 dropped cable rates by 10 to 15 percent, he said.
"Orton has a saying about cable rates: 'You have to look at the natural order of how things go. Snow falls down, rates go up.'”

"Snow falls down, rates go up." Wtf does that mean? Do rates go down when the sun shines?
Never forget, the "natural order" of cable companies is to gouge their customers as deeply as possible.

Have you ever used Time Warner Cable for telephone services?
Bump: I've bumped up this blog because of the new, anonymous, 7th comment.
By the way, I have an appointment this Wednesday for TWC to install telephone service.

I'm thinking of switching landline telephone service providers from AT&T to Time Warner Cable. I want to hear anyone's experiences with TWC telephone service.
TWC's introductory rate (one year) is considerably less than my AT&T bill. Plus, it includes nationwide long distance. Presently, I have no long distance service. Even after a year, TWC's regular rate is less than what I'm paying now.
I've had issues with TWC's Road Runner internet service in the past, so I don''t want to shoot myself in the foot.
Thank you for your time.

"Journal Broadcast, Time Warner finally reach agreement; Channel 4 moves to Channel 2"
From JSOnline:
By Duane Dudek of the Journal Sentinel
"The good news is that the blackout of WTMJ-TV (Channel 4) on Time
Warner Cable was resolved Friday afternoon. The dispute lasted one day
shy of two full months.
"'All I can say at the end of the day is that we’re being fairly compensated for our programming, which is what we asked for all along,' said Steve Wexler, executive vice president of radio and TV for Journal Broadcast Group.
"'We asked for fair market value, which is what we ended up getting.' The blackout was 'unfortunate and avoidable, but I’m glad we can put it behind us.'
"The bad news is that, on Time Warner, the station lost the Channel 4 dial location it has held since 1953.
"On the cable service, WTMJ is now seen on Channel 2 in standard definition but retains its Channel 1004 dial location in high definition. In Racine, Kenosha and Plymouth, 'they couldn’t put us on Channel 2' so the station will be on Channel 83 'until they free up a more favorable position in those communities,' Wexler said.
"Time Warner sold the standard-definition Channel 4 dial location to the Game Show Network during negotiations.
"'We could have kept debating and arguing about this, but we accommodated that request so we could expedite the agreement,' Wexler said. 'Channel 1004 is where the viewing is.'
"WTMJ remains at Channel 4 on the dial over the air and on DirectTV, DISH and AT&T U-verse."

Let there be festivity and celebration throughout the land! The blackout has ended. Channel 4 is now Channel 2 or 83 or 1004, maybe.

"CITY OF RACINE CABLE COMMISSION & ALDERMAN RAY DEHAHN APPROVE SPENDING ADDITIONAL $30,000 ON CAR25 FAILURE!!!"
"RACINE- In a shocking move, the Racine Cable Commission is recommending to spend an additional $30 THOUSAND DOLLARS this year to the already $106,000 that is spent on running the cities public access channel CAR25. It appears the channel and it’s rebranding, 'what’s now called BelleTv' is a complete failure and the only option is to spend more taxpayer money to fund what people are now referring to as Dickert’s Propaganda TV.
"The move comes after public outcry and scrutiny over Mayor John Dickert’s so called 'Vison' to save the city money by selecting his personal friends to take over CAR25. In reality, it has wound up costing residents, and the city much more than in years past. CAR25 has had operating budgets of $80,000 a year, and now is attempting to come in at approx $136,000 a year. Where is the city getting this money to spend on frivolous propaganda tools, when the city cannot afford to keep streetlights on for 60K a year?
"It appears the channel has had nothing but problems since the takeover, having to fire staff members and purchase thousands in new equipment already. Members of the public have been complaining in regards to current programming, and faulty web site broadcasts, and have been met with less then friendly responses from those in charge. Also of note, is the additional request for $1000, to be spent for BelleTv staff for travel to conferences.
"The current Time Warner dispute over the channel 4 blackout is another example of this Racine Cable Commission (appointed by Mayor John Dickert) Not doing their duty to serve the area residents and represent the City The Of Racine in the Channel 4 dispute. The City Of Racine and Time Warner are business partners, so to speak, and this commission’s duties included representing the community in any disputes or issues regarding Time Warner service to the residents. Instead, they have not attempted to discuss the Channel 4 blackout, or it’s affects on the greater Racine area, choosing to just ignore it. Racine and it’s residents and taxpayers should demand competant representation on ALL LEVELS of government, with no exceptions."

They don't even try anymore. They just lie to us and then do whatever they want. And yet, we're "broke" when it comes to streetlights and other citizen services.
Party on, lying John!

Time Warner Cable Technician "Fix"
A Time Warner Cable technician "fixed" my internet connection this morning. I subscribe to Road Runner Turbo, which means I should be receiving 20 Mbps or higher. The test above shows my current speed at 0.90 Mbps. And they have the gall to charge me money for this. This problem has been occurring for years. Time Warner technicians apparently are incapable of solving it.
Now I have to wait till Friday for another "technician" to visit me. That will make it a week of shit internet. This has happened to me a dozen times or more. I have no idea of how many internet hours I've lost to incompetence by TWC. TWC don't care just as long as they get $ from me. I am so sick of paying them to screw up my account.
