Who won the Super Bowl? Who cares? If our valiant Green Bay Packers aren't in the game, then's it's not a game. The hoopla surrounding every Super Bowl guarantees an enormous income for the owners and the NFL. Everybody is happy except the losers of the Super Bowl. They still get a ring, right? They need to maintain appearances in case something happens to the Super Bowl winners and they have to step in. You never know. I do. That's my job.
If you're ever confronted by more bullies than you can handle, blow into your special OrbsCorbs hi-frequency ring. Soon, you'll be surrounded by OrbsCorbs loyalists, nutjobs, drug addicts, etc. That should send the bullies running.

Welcome!
This year will be Downtown Racine Corporation’s 15th year of Community Art! For each of the past fourteen years, DRC has announced a new community art project. But this year, because of the huge success of last year’s community art project, and because we can definitely use more banners in Downtown Racine, and more importantly because there is much more to show about Racine, we are continuing the Celebrate Racine Campaign.
Once again we are looking for depictions of art representing Racine County. Special consideration will be given to those works that show historic innovation, a recognition of events and people that helped make our community the great place it is today. We are thinking about people, products and places as they were in days gone by.
Why Community Art?
Community art creates attachment to one’s community! Cities gain value through community art – cultural, social and economic value. It reflects and reveals our society, adds meaning to our cities and uniqueness to our communities. Community art provides an intersection between past, present and future, between disciplines, and between ideas.
And, it’s free. There are no tickets. People don’t have to dress up. It can be viewed alone or in groups. Community art is open to everyone, and again this year will be available 24 hours per day, 7 days a week.
The Project – Celebrate Racine
This year’s community art project is a civic beautification initiative that strives to engage community members, showcase the beauty of the region, and highlight local and regional artists. Up to 50 original works will be selected. Those selected works will be enlarged and reproduced on light pole banners. The banners will be installed on the light poles throughout downtown from June to October, 2016. The banner collection from 2015 will be re-exhibited throughout downtown as well. Your friends, family and all of the visitors to downtown will be able to admire your work for the entire summer.
The original selected submissions will also be featured in a gallery exhibition during the summer. Sponsors and guests of the Preview Party in June will be given the opportunity to purchase the selected original artworks. The original works not sold at the Preview Party will be sold during an exhibition in July. Proceeds from the sale will be used to support the Downtown Racine Corporation’s ability to deliver quality services, energetic community events and enhance the community’s vitality and economic growth.

Using the theme Celebrate Racine, artists are invited to submit two dimensional entries from the following visual art categories:
Appropriate content:
Landmarks, Architecture, History, Traditions, Innovations, Attractions, Landscapes, People and Events
All works submitted must be original (no reproductions), not done under supervision, not made from kits or patterns.
All submissions must have a finished size of 15” wide x 30” deep in a portrait orientation. All submissions must be suitable for framing and permanent display. If the appropriate
medium is canvas, the canvas must be stretched and fastened to a wooden frame. If the appropriate medium is paper, the paper should be a high quality,
non-acid, cotton based paper. Submissions on paper must also be mounted on archival (acid-free) mounting board. Entries in the Digital Art category must be submitted on canvas.

John Nowicki is an award-winning watercolorist who has two pieces in the currently running Watercolor Wisconsin at Wustuum Museum. His work also often adorns the walls of Salute Italian Restaurant in downtown Racine. He has sold work to both the diners and the Salute family.
I had a hell of a time getting a decent picture of the painting because of reflections off the glass. The above pic is about as good as it's going to get. If you're interested, stop on by.

Four for Fridays!
Sorry I am posting this kind of late today after taking Drew to work I had to go out to Whitewater to get my daughter she has a doctors appointment today. I hope everyone's week has gone good for them. Sorry to say not for me I came down all congested but thankfully it is already going away slowly. Here are you questions.

My Psychiatrist Is Retiring
She said my case had pushed her to the brink and it was either quit, or commit suicide. "Chicken," I said.
Ha, no. She is retiring, but as she put it "because she'd been promoted to grandmother." She sent all of her clients a letter last month and gave us six months notice. She was so generous with the notice time because she acknowledges the psychiatric shortage in our area. I saw her yesterday, Feb. 3, probably for the last time, although a May appointment was scheduled for me, she wants me seeing a different mental health care provider by then.
When I told her I hadn't made an appointment with anybody yet, she pulled out a printout and circled some doctors' names, and crossed out others. The third psychiatrist she recommended for me was "telepsychiatry." I never heard of it before.
It looks a little odd, but I think I could get used to it. Being the provider, I mean.
It'd be cool to have, like, Alfred Hitchcock for a telepsychiatrist.
I'm willing to try it to see if it helps. I'd better see the same shrink every time, or fuck that shit. That would seem like customer service more than healthcare provision.
Soon, we'll be talking to robots instead of humans. Maybe we already are.

Poll - At which age do you become a "Senior Citizen?"
I ask because, provided I live that long, this year I turn 65, the age which I traditionally associated with "Senior Citizen." I never had grandparents to interact with, so I guess the default retirememnt age became my default geezer age.
I think AARP starts accepting members at age 50.
Over the past decade or so, I've become more and more comfortable about asking if there's a senior citizen discount. My mentor at the muffler and brake shop would be proud of me.

Morning Planet Parade
You might have read some coverage of the current planet lineup in the morning sky. All five naked eye planets are visible at the same time in the pre-dawn sky. They are pretty spread out with Jupiter being about 120 degrees from Mercury.
Mercury is the tough one to catch, but it is coming up fairly early now and is pretty bright so the next week is a pretty good time to track it down before it starts getting lower in the sky and fading.
I went out this morning and took some shots. Nowhere special, just outside my house since I didn't feel like driving anywhere. Here they are with the planets labeled. The Moon is just above Saturn. Each morning the Moon will move farther east and end up down by Mercury and Venus Saturday morning before leaving the morning sky.
Hopefully you will have some clear skies to check them out!

So far, our winter hasn't been too bad. (Knock on wood.) There's still plenty of time for subzero temps and bitter wind chills. Stay tuned to the weatherman or woman. The sky is falling and we're all going to die. When we're all dead, who will the weathermen broadcast to? Sea gulls and geese?
I think maybe we'll exist for another few decades. After that, all bets are off. Unless we change our ways, I don't see us as long term stewards of the planet. It's that damned fossil fuel dependency, as deadly as any junky's habit. It will suck us dry until all of our humanity is gone. Wars have been fought for millennia over this area, and not always for oil. To many, this is the Holy Land. Therefore the constant tumult and strife. Death. Kill. Death, has been the predominant tone. All religions preach peace, all are soaked in blood. The sheep conveniently ignore that fact. Their religions are like their favorite football teams: essentially the same, but with enough minor differences that the bloodthirsty exploit for profit.
So the fighting goes on and on and on. So much money to be made by not just weapons manufacturers, but the entire sea of support and logistics. From the soldier's boot to the airplane's engines, they all have to be paid for. War is money. This allows hundreds, if not thousands, of support products to be produced. Better living through war. Better war through death.
How depressing! I can't leave you like that. I love you guys too much for that. Here's a Readers Digest joke:

Flowers from over the years!
I was thinking of something to post for some time now and I decided to go through all of my wildflower pictures and pick out some of the better pictures to post from over the years. I will be starting with when I first started taking the pictures back in 2012. Yes I have been taking the pictures to share with everyone for four years and I can't even believe this.
This is a picture of the very first Water Lily I had ever taken and the picture was taken at Tichigan Wildlife Refuge in Tichigan Wi on 6-3-2012. I have seen the flower before but never took a picture of it until this day.
This is the first time I ever seen or heard of this flower it is the Yellow Monkey Flower this picture was taken at Meyers Park in Racine Wi on 8-17-2013.
This is a picture of a Wild Rose this picture was taken at Richard Bong State Recreational Area in Brighton Wi 6-28-2013. I remember this day it was raining and yes we are crazy enough to go out in the rain to get some pictures.
This is a picture of a Perennial Pea this picture was taken on Shelter Valley Rd in Forest County 7-4-2014. This is one of the times we went up north and took one day to go out driving around looking for pictures of birds and flowers.
This is a picture of a Crested Dwarf Iris this picture was taken at Richard Bong State Recreational Area in Brighton Wi 6-17-2015. This is one of my favorite flowers to go looking for.
This is a picture of a Crinum Timeless Lily this picture was taken at Whitewater University College in Whitewater Wi 7-6-2015. I was there my daughter had an appointment so her step sister and I went driving around the campus looking at the flowers to get some pictures. her step sister and I had a blast just driving around the campus and we almost go ourselves lost. Why sit in the parking lot bored when you can drive around.

"Jefferson Airplane’s Paul Kantner dies at 74"
"Paul Kantner, one of the giants of the San Francisco music scene, died Thursday. Mr. Kantner, a founding member of the Jefferson Airplane, was 74 and had suffered a heart attack this week.
"His death was confirmed by longtime publicist and friend, Cynthia Bowman, who said he died of multiple organ failure and septic shock.
"Mr. Kantner had a string of health problems in recent years, including a heart attack in March.
"With Jefferson Airplane, Mr. Kantner pioneered what became known as the San Francisco sound in the mid-1960s, with such hits as 'Somebody to Love' and 'White Rabbit.'
"The Airplane was renowned for thrilling vocal gymnastics by singers Marty Balin, Grace Slick and Mr. Kantner, the psychedelic blues-rock sound developed by guitarist Jorma Kaukonen and bass player Jack Casady and the LSD-spiked, ’60s-era revolutionary fervor of its lyrics.
"The band was formed in 1965 in a Union Street bar called the Drinking Gourd, when Balin met Mr. Kantner and expressed his interest in creating a 'folk-rock' band. It didn’t take long for the Airplane to attract a sizable local following, enough so that when fledgling promoter Bill Graham opened his legendary Fillmore Auditorium, the Jefferson Airplane served as the first headliner."
