Golden Slumbers - Carry That Weight - The End

9+ 0:00 / 5:19 The Beatles - Golden slumbers - Carry that weight - The end - Cover

Dear Madame Zoltar

Hello, my dears.  How are you?  I suppose you want to know where I've been for the past few weeks.  Would you believe that I was abducted by extraterrestrials?  Well, that's what happened.  They were the grays and they come from the Alpha Centuri galaxy.  Their home planet, Mora, is remarkably similar to Earth.  It's cooler there and they have more water.  I assume the atmosphere is similar to Earth's as I had no trouble breathing.  The same with gravity.  In any case, Morans abducted me because they wanted to learn about my "powers."  They snuck into our bedroom and paralyzed me.  I was conscious, but couldn't move.  They explained to me what their intentions were and I had little choice but to agree to their terms.

The ET's were very interested in astral projection.  None of them seemed to be able to do it, and that bothered them.  They would ask me the same questions over and over.   I tried to explain meditation to them, but they just couldn't get it.  So I decided that I would demonstrate the process to them. I started meditating and pretty soon I was in a place to astral project.  So I did.  I didn't want to project to somewhere on Earth because I didn't know if I could project such a great distance.  I decided to project to just outside the building.  Big mistake.  As I approached the outside in my projection, I heard a booming voice which said, "Thou shall not violate any more of our laws," and I was thrown back into my body where I landed with a thud, injuring my neck and shoulder.

I was on Mora for a month and I took off a week to help my neck and shoulder heal.  The ET's have no magic solution to pain and sickness.  They are like us in that regard.  They get sick and they can hurt themselves and others, and be hurt by others.  However, they are immune to most Earth illnesses thanks to vaccinations.  They performed medical tests on me, but there was no violating of my body.  At least, I don't remember any.

I gave the Morans a lot of my secrets.  I figured that I could cooperate and be left unmolested, or I could fight and lose every time.  Obviously, the Morans are advanced over us in the area of technology.  I would also hope that they are advanced in personality, discipline, and emotions.  They should be able to handle my secrets.  Time will tell.

Reading The Journal Times, I see that the usual craziness continues in Racine.  At least no young black male has been killed by RPD lately.  They're still stalling on the Tyrese West report.  I would hate to be a cop.  They're damned if they do and damned if they don't.  Thank God that some people are more inclined to join the force.

Oh, heck.  I'm cutting off this blog.  Ever since being returned to Earth by the Morans, I often feel light-headed and weak.  Damn ET's!  If I don't start feeling better soon, they'll get the dreaded Zoltar Curse.

Thank you so much for reading my blog.  It's a pleasure to serve.  I always appreciate more readers.

Survey: 13% of Americans underestimate dangers of driving while high

From The Journal Times.com:

A recently published nationwide survey supports what local law enforcement leaders have been saying for months: The public often underestimates the dangers of driving while high.

Of the 2,582 drivers surveyed by the American Automobile Association (AAA) in 2018, 13.5% of American drivers said they felt that driving within an hour of using marijuana was only “slightly dangerous” or “not dangerous at all.”

In comparison, only 1.2% of those surveyed said that driving while over the legal limit for alcohol consumption was “slightly dangerous” or “not dangerous at all.”

“A lot of people don’t realize the amount that it (marijuana) impairs them,” said Nick Jarmusz, director of public affairs for AAA Wisconsin. “There’s this misperception that marijuana is not as dangerous or impairing (as alcohol). … Knowing the amount the public believes that misperception is important.”

Journal Times editorial: Other needs more urgent than Downtown redesign

This drawing by Toole Design Group shows how Downtown Main Street could look in a few years with two central driving lanes, a lane of trees and parking on each side, a dedicated bike lane on each side and no curbs.
A new design for Downtown Racine streets and Monument Square was released this month by Toole Design Group to show an image of what Racine’s Main Street area could look like in the future.

Those designs were featured in the Sunday paper last week.

It includes no more one-way streets, bike paths along Main Street, and parallel parking on Monument Square instead of angle parking.

For Monument Square, the group provided a design that made the square flush with the street as well as expanded sidewalk space by businesses to leave room for possible outdoor dining.

McAfee Offers Latest Advice For Coming Civil War: "Arm Yourselves To The Fu*king Teeth"

The always rogue and occasionally imprisoned John McAfee has been dispensing free advice to all who will listen; from his "Mixology 101" series on bartending, to his Central America travel guide, to offering advice for young men, (which includes "stay out of jail as much as possible") - the 73-year-old gun-toting cybersecurity pioneer who parties harder than most 23-year-olds has some advice for surviving the upcoming civil war.

"Arm yourself to the fucking teeth"
Pointing to a political map of the United States ("This is the layout, assuming we're having war"), McAfee suggests that blue states "arm yourselves to the fucking teeth" with 'vastly superior Israeli weaponry.'

To the blue states of Colorado and New Mexico; "I'm sorry, you're surrounded. See if Mexico won't annex you."
To the central-north states, "you're too damn cold, noone wants you," and the Northeast should "just tell them you're part of Canada and they won't know the fucking difference."
To Florida, McAfee suggests "change the state language to Spanish, and when the invaders look for "el baño" (the bathroom) - can't find one, they'll go home."
Hateful words on both sides of the gun issue. Is civil war coming? If so, here's my advice to both sides:

How should red states prepare?
To the 'conservatives, the gun owners,' - "you should anticipate that the West Coast is going to arm itself to the fucking teeth with the latest Israeli weapons. I suggest you preempt this by selling them your daisy bb-rifles and tell them they're AR-15's, they won't know the fucking difference."
"Colorado and New Mexico; worthless land - ignore it. See if you can sell it to Mexico," advises McAfee.
"The central north - too damn cold, you don't want that. And the Northeast, it's part of Canada - ignore it."
Finally, "Florida - if you cannot sell it to Cuba, then blow the bridges and stock Piranha in all the swamps, that will keep them busy till the war is over."

Drug Paraphernalia Laws: the Overlooked Side of the War on Drugs

news_marijuana.jpg.jpe

One of the oft-forgotten caveats of the so-called “War on Drugs” is that drug paraphernalia laws can be used to convict someone who wasn’t found selling or even in possession of drugs. Owning or selling bongs, for instance, can be sufficient to bring charges against someone, although paraphernalia charges typically accompany other, more serious ones. While simple possession of drug paraphernalia is not a federal crime, unlike selling it, some states have chosen to forbid such items.

The problem with US nationalism

As Alan Mendenhall notes, it simply doesn't exist, because it has never existed:
What is this national conservatism all about?
The succinct answer is the marriage of nationalism to conservatism. The conference organizers defined nationalism as “a commitment to a world of independent nations.” They presented national conservatism as “an intellectually serious alternative to the excesses of purist libertarianism, and in stark opposition to theories grounded in race.” Their stated aim was “to solidify and energize national conservatives, offering them a much-needed institutional base, substantial ideas in the areas of public policy, political theory, and economics, and an extensive support network across the country.”

Sounds interesting. However, neither national conservatism nor nationalism — whatever the distinctions between them — can take hold in the United States.

The Difference Between a Country and a Nation

Why? Because the United States is not, and has never been, a nation. The founding generation referred to the United States as a plural noun (i.e., “these United States”) because several sovereigns fell under that designation. St. George Tucker called the United States a “federal compact” consisting of “several sovereign and independent states.” If his view seems unrecognizable today, it is because nationalism within the United States is dying or dead—and the United States killed it.

The United States of America in the singular is a country, not a nation. It contains nations within it, but does not itself constitute a nation. Nations involve solidarity among people who share a common culture, language, customs, mores, ethnicity, and history. A country, by contrast, involves political arrangements and governmental territories and boundaries.

From its inception, the United States has been characterized by faction and sectionalism, cultural clashes, and competing narratives — between Indian tribes in what is now Florida and California, Wyoming and Maine, Georgia and Michigan; between the British and French and Spanish and Dutch; between Protestants and Catholics and English Dissenters and nonconformists and splintering denominations; between the Calvinism of Cotton Mather and the Enlightenment rationalism that influenced Franklin and Jefferson. The United States has experienced, as well, numerous separatist movements, including, most notably, the secession of the states that made up the Confederate States of America.

The United States is not a nation.
The United States is not a nation, it is an empire. But the formerly dominant American nation that it contains is, despite its self-disbelief, nevertheless still a nation. And its national self-interest is naturally opposed to the self-styled "nationalist conservatives" who are neither nationalists nor conservatives, but rather, neoclown imperialists in nationalist clothing.
Mendenhall observes: "The national conservatism they envision for the United States can lead only to the suppression of actual nationalism." And that, of course, is precisely the point.

Astronomers Stunned After 'City-Killer' Asteroid 'Snuck Up On Us Pretty Quickly'

A giant 'city-killer' asteroid that just whizzed past earth seemingly appeared "out of nowhere" has stunned astronomers after only being discovered last week, days before it flew within around 45,000 miles from earth - or less than 20% of the distance to the moon, according to the Washington Post.

"I was stunned," said Alan Duffy - lead scientist at the Royal Institution of Australia. "This was a true shock."
This asteroid wasn’t one that scientists had been tracking, and it had seemingly appeared from “out of nowhere,” Michael Brown, a Melbourne-based observational astronomer, told The Washington Post. According to data from NASA, the craggy rock was large, an estimated 57 to 130 meters wide (187 to 427 feet), and moving fast along a path that brought it within about 73,000 kilometers (45,000 miles) of Earth. That’s less than one-fifth of the distance to the moon and what Duffy considers “uncomfortably close.” -Washington Post
"It snuck up on us pretty quickly," said Michael Brown, an associate professor at Australia's Monash University School of Physics and Astronomy, adding later "People are only sort of realizing what happened pretty much after it’s already flung past us."
