Woman Sues NYC Transit for $10 Million

"A woman who claims her 120-pound dog is protection from childhood memories of sex abuse is in a big-bucks battle with NYC Transit over whether the animal can ride the rails.

"Estelle Stamm, 65, won $10,000 from the city after two cops gave her a ticket for bringing the pony-sized dog into a subway station.

"Now she's going for $10 million in a federal suit that argues Wargas, her service dog, is protected under the Americans With Disabilities Act.

"'These sons of bitches don't like to be told what to do,' Stamm told the Daily News as she waited for a federal judge to decide whether the suit should be tossed."

Ooo, I think I just got an idea for suing Racine's Belle Urban System. First, I have to get a service cow . . .

If I'm diagnosed with a fear of large dogs, can I sue NYC Transit for allowing this woman and her dog on their trains, hmmm?

The Politically Correct Nazis are morons. In their efforts to treat everyone "equally," they actually treat everyone the same - and there is a VAST difference. Unisex public restrooms is treating everyone the same. Separate restrooms for men and women, recognizing the reality of life on planet Earth, is treating everyone equally.

I once worked as a groundskeeper at a nursing home. A new addition for dementia residents had been opened and the staff was holding a celebration. They forced all of the dementia patients to attend the event. One man was clearly frightened to death by the prodeedings. He kept howling about wanting to return to his room. when I pointed that out to a staff member, she scolded me with, "We treat everyone equally here." I said, "No, you treat everyone the same, and it's obvious that this man's needs are not the same as the others."

The Declaration of Independence says that all men are created equal - NOT the same. There is a huge difference, and that difference is dumbing our society down to the level of semiliterate apes.

This sort of crap burns my ass. Just like the woman that goes to North beach with her dog and claims its a working dog. It makes folks with true working dogs have problems.

do you think Max could pass for a service lizard???

Orbs, I have never heard it said better. You are absolutely correct.

And, Huck, you made a big point there...irks you with some of these people who do not know what it is like to really have to depend upon a service animal.

I think it all boils down to the doctor saying she is in need of this. These animals have to be certified and very trained. It seems she is in compliance with the law.

If the dog is truly a certified animal, and the doctor (who is supposed to be the expert) says she needs it... the transit people should not be continually hassling her. Whether or not she is mentally stable, (and it does appear she may not be) or whether we agree with the diagnosis is not the issue.

There must be some rules in place to challenge the doctor's finding other than one on one hassling her.

Oooh, can I bring my service cat on the train to meet her service dog?

Bottom line on this one is that she has the permit issued by the transit authority. That's all she needs to show. The idiot transit employees should have kept their collective mouths shut.

But......$10 Million? No way. The 10 grand was kind of pushing it, but that's about all she should get.
