What if they held a bicycle race and nobody noticed?

Two comments on the Journal Times' story before the race and seven on the Racine Post's (including one from Pete). No comments on either's coverage after the race.

All you have to do is whisper "Adrial White" and people fall all over themselves to say something.

Gee, I wonder what is important to the people who actually live in Racine, Wisconsin?

Gunfire in the hood again last night.

Party on, party on.

I know, I know, if they hadn't held the race, there would have been twice as many shots fired last night.

Seriously, how many God Damn bicycle races does this city need??

Who benefits from these things??

Party on!!

Shush! Money is POURING into "our community" because of these things; that is, as long as you define "our community" as the wallets of certain connected individuals.

When I hear shots, I just say Kringle.

I was down there...traffic was a mess as usual.

Not that many people, but then it was a little later when I was there, but they will still racing.

Kringle! lol anon 12:51.

I guess I am just pissed about the Adrial White verdict. Will they consider time already served? As a white female, I wonder what the verdict and outcome would have been, had Adrial been a white male?

Sort of on that vein... did you hear that Obama came down hard on some police officers who arrested a black Harvard professor at his own home?
(story here)

The racism has to stop. How can we continue to be so blatantly ignorant?

Racine is a VERY racist city, that is, MANY blacks here think that white people owe them something.

I've lived in many, many cities, and have never seen so many blacks with the attitudes seen here in Racine.

I'm not sure what contributes to this attitude, specifically in this city.

I have gone out of my way to be kind and courteous to all people in this city, only to be met with dirty looks and language from the black folks.

To be fair, obviously not all are rude and give dirty looks, but I've seen way too much for my liking.

I have given up and will no longer be kind and courteous, it will now be survival of the fittest for me.

Sad but true.

Anon, racism can come from both sides. Ignorance is still ignorance no matter who is doing it. I don't see the negativity as much as you seem to.

Respect has to be earned. You must give it to get it, but you have to be smart too. I don't push my luck by hanging in neighborhoods where I'm not readily welcome either. We have a long, long way to go to fix things.

Adrial HAD to pay for Racine's failure to confront its crime problem. There was no way that the good old boys could let him get away with punctuating what everyone who lives in the hood already knows.

Just like the charges HAVE to be dropped against Becker. There's no way they're gong to let one of their own go the way of Adrial.

2009 marks the Summer of Lies in Racine.

Good points.

"Summer of lies... " Dude, try Decade of lies.

We both said Becker was going to get off as soon as the news hit and everyone else was in arms. We won't be surprised.

The black Harvard Professor was arrested for disorderly conduct for the way he treated the police officers when they questioned him, making it more of a class issue (the educated vs the working class). Very controversial, and not at all what it has been made out to be.

And when the black officer stood up for the white officer, Mr. Obama did the back peddle trick!!!
