Kenosha Fresh Market

WOW!! I finally drove down and checked the place out. I have NEVER seen such a HUGE variety of produce and meat. Goat meat anyone? Cactus? So many different types of peppers you get lost wondering what's hot, what's flame thrower, and what might be easy on my American pallet. After getting the flier for a year, I finally went. I'll be going back. It looks like I'll be doing some new food experiments as the choices were enough to make eating very interesting.

Huck, Are you an avid cook? I used to love to cook, but lost interest as I got older, and the fact very few people I knew like to try different things. I argued with the Meat Dept. Manager at Wal-Mart about Lamb today. She doesn't like It, and It doesn't sell In Baraboo. Did you know they sell High Quality Lamb from Colorado, but It costs an arm and leg. Lovely Lamb Shanks are $9.98 a Lb. I don't know If they became SO popular lately that they had to triple the price, (kinda like chicken wings) but thats a lot of money for a Lamb Shank. They were close to $12.00 each. They have Lamb Ribs, Lamb Breast, Ground Lamb, and Chops. Most of It looked great. I have to tell you, I wouldn't recommend their other meats.

I'll be finding out first hand. I picked up some stew meat that looks very good, a "sea food mix" I'm going to make into a sea food gumbo, and three pounds of smoked pork neck bones from Canada. I've figured out how to make an excellent pinto bean soup and found bulk beans at $.50 pound. I have 9# of beans now and for sure need to make some vittles up.

While i found the goat meat, there wasn't any lamb unless I missed it. Bulk rope chirizo though.

Whatever happened to regular sized Swanson TV dinners? All I see are Hungry Man or kids' meals.

Pig had a sale on Swanson regular size last week. $.80 five limit.

No, how could I have missed it. Was that all Pigs? I don't see them at Erie and 3 Mile.

I use Washington Ave store.

Who cooks Creole? Any tips? I tried red beans and rice with Chirizo sausage, and needed to toss in some BBQ'd Italian sausage to give the beans a smoky flavor. Can't seem to find Anduille sausage around here.

Crawfish etoufe' is a favorite, but can't find tails anywhere.

Oh boy. Chorizo and Eggs. Good stuff. I bet those smoked bones would do some beans some REAL justice. Just another think my wife won't touch.

Huck, Buy a bottle of Liquid Smoke for those unseen emergencies. I rarely use It, but It's good In a marinade. STRONG stuff though. Don't need much. Here we go again. CALL Wal Mart, and ask the frozen food person If they have frozen Crawfish? I kind of remember seeing them?

Huck, I LOVE that place! I have never seen a produce section like that. I wish we had one closer, I'd definitely go more often, really good deals. I'll have to go there next time I head to Sams
