Dear Madame Zoltar

Hello, my spring robins!  How are you?  Happy spring!!! It's warmed up (a little) outside and much of our s-word has melted.  Hurrah!  Of course, this is Wisconsin, so it might still snow or get cold.  But it won't last long.  Winter here is so depressing.  For the most part, I hide at home unless a client needs me.  I don't even like to go shopping in the winter.  I know, I should be in Florida or Arizona, but I started my business here and most of my clients are nearby.  I'd have to start all over down south.

Have you heard the latest?  Racine is now partnering with Foxconn.  That means that if they go belly up, as they have a tendency to do, we go with them.  Mr. Mayor Butterball has sold us out.  I wonder what his take is?  Anyway, maybe the Common Council won't approve the deal.  Yeah, right, and it might rain $100 bills.  The CC will rubber stamp the move and then we're on the hook.

Foxconn seems to change direction weekly.  First they want this, then they want that.  They've already stated that they won't meet their promise of employment numbers.  Heck, maybe they'll just import their own workforce.  They can live and sleep at Foxconn.  Go for it, Mr. Gou.

We've also received the study of the police department that Mayor Butterball commissioned.  Only $150,000 for a report that says things are going OK.  My God, do you know what they could do with that money in the poorer parts of the city?  Mayor Butterball is a leader in urinating away tax dollars.  He has more assistants than Carter has little liver pills.  Everybody around the mayor gets rich at taxpayer expense.  Money is no object to Mayor Butterball because it isn't his.

You can bet that Mayor Butterball doesn't stress out paying his property taxes now that he's had the assessed value of his home set at $400,000 less than all the other homes nearby.  If I was one of his neighbors, I would have complained like crazy.  They probably don't even know.

In fact, I'd argue that the vast majority of Racine citizens don't know.  If you read only the print edition of the paper, you're led to believe that everything is hunky-dory in local government.  I bet less than 1% read the online version.  That's where you learn the most about the scams and corruption in Racine.  When you have a lying mayor, lying assistants, lying department heads, etc., it's very difficult to ascertain the truth.  As long as they're making a living, most people don't want to get involved.

Hey, how about that MM rebuilding project?  Cornerstone Paving really messed up.  They're blaming everyone but themselves for the huge delays in the work.  I can't imaging living on MM.  What an unmitigated mess.

I love you all.  Thank you for reading my blog this week.  madamezoltar@jtirregulars.com

Enjoy the warming weather.  We still have a way to go, but blooming trees and shrubs, flowers, and grass are on the way.   Along with "soda and pretzels and beer," eventually.  Stay positive and keep on smiling.  That's what I do.  Otherwise I would cry.
