'Get wild': How video from a government meeting in Madison landed on 'Jimmy Kimmel Live!'

Madison resident Austin Carl appeared before the city's Alcohol License and Review Committee when a hilarious exchange went viral and ended up in Jimmy Kimmel's opening monologue Monday night.
The proposition was to open a coffee and bar lounge in a space of former nightclubs Prism and Plan B off Williamson Ave. in Madison, which concerned board members since neighbors had problems with the previous establishments.
At a Jan. 16 hearing, Carl tried to assure the board that the bar wouldn't be too crazy, but there was some doubt among the committee. Especially when a board member pulled up the website and in the middle of the home page it said "Get Wild."
"I want to make sure I heard something right," said board member Michael Donnelly. "You're saying your vision is not a nightclub and this is not a place for people to get wild? Is that what you said?"
"I’m sure if we checked the records that is probably the case," Carl replied.
"Is this your website? It says 'get wild'?'" Donnelly asked.
A humorous video of the exchange was posted to Twitter, where it got more than 30,000 likes and more than 5,000 retweets. A similar clip appeared on ABC's "Jimmy Kimmel Live!" Monday night.
"Amazing clip from the Madison alcohol license review committee. You can't write this stuff," said Twitter user @zorknogg, who posted the video.
Carl explained that he delegated some work to his social media director, who had put that on the website and he was not aware of it.
"She asked me more about expenditures and boosting posts and not so much content," Austin said. "That will be one of the first things I correct when I leave this meeting."
Kimmel applauded Donnelly's investigative work.
"That’s the guy I want asking questions in the Senate in the impeachment trial," Kimmel joked.
After discussing the bar proposal for nearly two hours, the committee ultimately referred the item to its next meeting in February. The discussion between Carl and Donnelly took place after midnight — almost seven hours into the committee meeting — which might help explain the extra confused reactions.

"The Panthers have struggled to a 1-12 record so far this season and usually scuffle to score more than 30 points in a game.
"But instead of working on their game Monday — a day off of school and practice — Duncan, her teammates and coach Carey Palacios worked on their community involvement.
"For the second straight year, Palacios brought his team to Home Harbor of Racine, an assisted living facility at 1600 Ohio St., on Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day to socialize with residents and remind his players that they need to try and be good off the court as well as on the court.
"'In the spirit of Dr. King, we try to give back to community as much as it gives to us,' said Palacios, in his third season as Panthers coach. 'The wins off the court sometimes mean more than the wins on the court.'
"The team also helps out at Home Harbor during Thanksgiving and rings bells for the Salvation Army during Christmas, Palacios said. 'Character is a big thing for any team,' he said. 'Doing these kind of things are a no-brainer for us.'
"Home Harbor residents live in efficiency, one- and two-bedroom apartments with full kitchens and private entries. The facility also has patios and several common areas."

"Events to honor Martin Luther King Jr. Day"

"Racine and surrounding communities will join cities and towns across the nation in honoring Martin Luther King Jr. Day with special events Saturday through Monday, Jan. 16-18. The U.S. federal holiday is celebrated on the third Monday in January each year, to commemorate the Jan. 15 birthday of King, a leader of the modern American civil rights movement.
"Born in 1929 in Atlanta, Ga., King was a Baptist minister and social activist. From the mid-1950s until his assassination in 1968, he led a nonviolent movement to achieve legal equality for African-Americans in the United States. King also campaigned against poverty and international conflict, and was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize for his efforts in 1964.
"The King Holiday, according to the writings of King’s late wife, Coretta Scott King, “honors the life and contributions of America’s greatest champion of racial justice and equality, the leader who not only dreamed of a color-blind society, but who also lead a movement that achieved historic reforms to help make it a reality.” (www.thekingcenter.org)."

"This year’s summit will focus on literacy and will include leaders from across the Gateway Technical College District of Racine, Kenosha and Walworth counties. They will address the current state of literacy in the region, key needs of area programs, highlight successes, outline best practices, discuss barriers and how to work together to improve the success of literacy programs throughout the district."
