WASHINGTON, Jan 10 (Reuters) - The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and U.S. State Department on Monday advised against travel to neighboring Canada because of a rising number of COVID-19 cases as the Omicron variant spreads.

The CDC elevated its travel recommendation to "Level Four: Very High" for Canada, telling Americans they should avoid travel, while the State Department also on Monday issued its "Level Four: Do Not Travel" advisory for Canada citing COVID-19 cases.

The CDC, which lists about 80 destinations worldwide at Level Four, also raised the island of Curacao to Level Four.

In November, the United States lifted restrictions at its land borders with Canada and Mexico for fully vaccinated foreign nationals, ending historic curbs on non-essential travelers put in place in March 2020 to address the COVID-19 pandemic.

KENOSHA, Wisc. — A total of 22 Kenosha Unified School District (KUSD) schools have switched to virtual learning as of Monday due to a spike in COVID-19 cases.

According to KUSD, the impacted schools have either reached or exceeded the 3 percent positive cases indicator that has been in place since the beginning of the school year.

To align with KUSD's quarantine guidelines, when a school transitions virtual it is for 10 days and all extracurricular activities are canceled.

The below schools transitioned to virtual learning on Friday, Jan. 7 and will return on Tuesday, Jan. 18:

MILWAUKEE - Three Advocate Aurora urgent care facilities in Milwaukee and two suburbs are closed until at least next week because of a COVID-19 surge in cases and staffing shortages, according to a hospital spokesperson.

The Advocate Aurora Health urgent care facilities closed are:

• Milwaukee: 1575 N. Rivercenter Drive in the Schlitz Park neighborhood
• Brookfield: 16985 W. Bluemound Rd.
• Menomonee Falls: N84 W16889 Menomonee Ave.

"Managing the COVID surge combined with staffing shortages have contributed to temporary closures at our urgent care centers," said Advocate Aurora Health External Communications Director Adam Mesirow in an email to FOX6.

Mesirow did not say when the facilities would reopen.

The three locations have regular hours of 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Friday. Websites for each location say the facility is closed, and online reservations through each location’s booking portal are unavailable.

When reached by phone Wednesday afternoon, employees at the three locations said the urgent care portion of the health facilities are scheduled to reopen on Jan. 6.
