Dover man changes plea in 2025 child pornography case

RACINE — A 42-year-old man changed his plea Monday in connection to 2025 child pornography accusations.

Michael Castagnino, from the Town of Dover, faced five counts of possession of child pornography.

He pleaded guilty to three counts. The remaining two counts were dismissed but read in to the court record.

Each is a class D felony and, upon conviction, can result in a maximum fine of $100,00, up to 25 years in prison or both. Additionally, the court can impose a $500 surcharge for each image recovered.

Castagnino was arrested in February 2025 by investigators with the Kenosha County Sheriff’s Office and Wisconsin State Patrol troopers.

He originally pleaded not guilty in May.

Castagnino is scheduled for a sentencing hearing April 17.

Mount Pleasant police: Illinois man injured, held onto moving car

MOUNT PLEASANT, Wis. - Mount Pleasant police were called to an accident Wednesday, Sept. 29 after a report of a man hanging from the side of a vehicle before falling onto the road.

A preliminary investigation found a 25-year-old Illinois man stopped near the intersection of Sunnyslope and Kelsey, got out of his running vehicle and walked into the intersection.

A vehicle driven by an 84-year-old Racine woman was trying to turn onto Sunnyslope but was forced to stop due to the Illinois man's presence. Police said the two talked until the Illinois man became argumentative and grabbed onto the open rear passenger window as the woman began to slowly drive away.

The man then fell to the ground and sustained significant injuries. He was taken to the hospital for initial treatment before being taken to another hospital via Flight for Life due.

Police said the man and woman did not know each other prior to the incident.

The Wisconsin State Patrol was called to assist with the accident reconstruction. This incident remains under investigation by the Mount Pleasant Police Department and Wisconsin State Patrol.

On Monday afternoon, a Racine man drove his car past a closed Amtrak gate and was struck by an oncoming train near the 11600 block of Seven Mile Road in Caledonia, the Caledonia Police said.

Officials said the train was traveling at 79 mph. The 41-year-old driver of the pickup truck was taken to Froedtert Hospital via Flight for Life with critical injuries. The exact status of his condition is unknown.

No passengers in the train were injured.

It is unclear why the man drove past the closed gate or if he was aware of the train. Caledonia Police and Wisconsin State Patrol are still investigating the incident.

Officials said the gate which was already closed, was properly functioning at the time.

Police searching for driver, car involved in fatal 4 Mile/Highway 38 crash

CALEDONIA — Law enforcement officials are searching for the driver of a tan four-door sedan that allegedly caused a 2:20 p.m. two-vehicle fatality accident on Monday at the intersection of Four Mile Road and State Hwy. 38 in the Village of Caledonia.

According a press release issued by Lt. Gary Larsen of the Caledonia Police Department, a preliminary investigation of the accident revealed that a white Honda sedan operated by the decedent was traveling northbound on Hwy. 38 approaching Four Mile Road as an unknown vehicle was traveling westbound on Four Mile approaching Hwy. 38.

The vehicle stopped for the stop sign at Hwy. 38 and began to proceed into the intersection, failing to yield right-of-way to the northbound Honda, which swerved into the oncoming southbound lane of Hwy. 38 to avoid striking the unknown vehicle, described as a tan four-door sedan.

The Honda was struck head-on by a pickup truck traveling southbound on Hwy. 38. The unknown vehicle went around the accident and left the scene.

Lifesaving measures were attempted on the driver of the white Honda, a 69-year Milwaukee man who died at the scene. Identity of the driver has not been released, pending notification of kin. 

The operator of the pickup truck, a 67-year-old man from Oak Creek, suffered injuries in the head-on collision with the Honda and was transported to Ascension All Saints Hospital in Racine.

No arrests had been made in the incident as of Tuesday morning and the accident remained under investigation.

Caledonia Police were assisted at the scene by the Caledonia Fire Department, the Racine County Sheriff’s Office, and the Wisconsin State Patrol’s specialized services crash investigation and reconstruction Technical Reconstruction Unit.

Family of ducks crossing I-41/94 causes crash in Racine County

RACINE COUNTY, Wis — A family of ducks was on a leisurely stroll, hoping to cross southbound

I-41/94 near County Highway K on Thursday, June 18 around 10:50 a.m. The driver of a vehicle came to a complete stop in a lane of traffic to allow the ducks to pass and was subsequently hit from behind by a semi-truck.

The driver of the car was taken to the hospital with minor injuries. No one else was injured.

Surviving ducklings were safely moved to the other side of the interstate. No word on how many ducks didn’t survive, according to a Facebook post from Wisconsin State Patrol.

Multiple lanes of traffic were closed for cleanup and the crash was cleared by 11:30 a.m.

This crash remains under investigation.
