 Two reasons the royal family doesn’t like TV interviews include Diana and Andrew. But Harry and Meghan, faced with losing their last royal patronages anyway, saw nothing to lose.

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry decided to give an interview to their friend Oprah Winfrey after becoming aware that they are going to be stripped of all their remaining royal links when the terms of their exit package from the royal family are reviewed on March 31, it was claimed Tuesday.

The Daily Mail says that insiders at Buckingham Palace believe that the interview, due to be screened on CBS on March 7, was organized by Meghan, 39, and Harry, 36, because the couple could “see the direction of travel” in regards to their future royal roles.

WISN 12 has obtained new police body camera video from the investigation into accused Kenosha protest shooter Kyle Rittenhouse's post-court visit to a Mount Pleasant bar.



RACINE, Wis. —

WISN 12 has obtained new police body camera video from the investigation into accused Kenosha protest shooter Kyle Rittenhouse's post-court visit to a Mount Pleasant bar.

Rittenhouse, now 18 and formerly of Antioch, Illinois, was charged with shooting three men and killing two of them after the Kenosha police shooting of Jacob Blake.

He's currently in hiding right now.

A judge last week allowed his address to be kept from the public because Rittenhouse's defense attorney said he has received death threats.

While out of jail on $2 million cash bail last month, he went to Pudgy's Pub.

Rittenhouse had three beers in 90 minutes, according to court filings.

He was seen taking pictures with supporters and flashing white power signs, prosecutors said.

The bar visit hit social media and police were called about a possible bond violation.

"Hi, you guys are looking at a problem," a caller told a Racine County 911 dispatch operator. "I'm actually calling from Kenosha. I'm an activist out here and there's a post online with a picture of Kyle Rittenhouse at Pudgy's on the 5th (of January). But you're probably gonna want to get eyes on Pudgy's because the post is like rapid-fire spreading."

Three Mount Pleasant police officers went to Pudgy's looking for answers about the visit.

They spoke with workers in the back of the bar.

Rittenhouse was not in the bar when officers arrived.

SEOUL, South Korea (AP) — North Korean hackers attempted to steal information about coronavirus vaccines and treatments, South Korea’s intelligence service said Tuesday, but it denied a lawmaker’s claim that vaccine maker Pfizer Inc. was targeted.

Earlier Tuesday, Ha Tae-keung, a member of parliament’s intelligence committee, told reporters that the National Intelligence Service told him and other lawmakers during a closed-door briefing that North Korea hacked Pfizer to obtain COVID-19 vaccine technology.

After Ha’s comments made headlines, the NIS said it didn’t mention any pharmaceutical company by name when it told lawmakers that North Korean hackers were going after coronavirus vaccine information. In an unusual rebuke, the NIS public affairs office called Ha’s comments “wrong.”

Ha stood by his claim when contacted by The Associated Press, saying the NIS documents he was shown said that “North Korea stole Pfizer (vaccine information) and attempted to steal (technology) from South Korean vaccine and pharmaceutical firms.” He said the lawmakers were required to return the documents at the end of the briefing.

Ha said the wording about Pfizer “was so clear that I didn’t even ask about that verbally” during the briefing.

Lake effect snow, maybe up to 8 inches, could fall along the Lake Michigan shoreline in southeast Wisconsin by Tuesday afternoon, forecasters say.

The National Weather Service Monday evening upgraded a winter weather advisory for Milwaukee County to a winter storm warning for 4 to 8 inches of snow. It remains in effect until noon Tuesday.

The warning also applies to Racine and Kenosha counties.

"Travel could be very difficult. Patchy blowing snow could significantly reduce visibility. The hazardous conditions could impact the morning commute," the weather service said in a statement.

The mayor, police chief, city clerk and a former city clerk of a small Midwest town were all arrested for allegedly abusing their power — with crimes including stealing money, falsifying records and strong-arming civilians, officials said.

In one instance, a resident in Armstrong, Iowa — population 840 — was attacked by one of the defendants with a stun gun to shake them down for money, authorities said.

“Mayor Greg Buum, police chief Craig Merrill, city clerk Tracie Lang, and former city clerk Connie Thackery were charged with felony and misdemeanor offenses in a 21-count joint trial information approved by the Emmet County District Court,” the Emmet County sheriff said in a statement.

The Iowa Attorney General’s Office filed charges on Feb. 11 after a multi-year investigation uncovered allegations of theft, felonious misconduct in office, tampering with records, assault with a dangerous weapon and falsifying public records, according to the release.

One of the defendants — it wasn’t immediately clear which — deployed a Taser on a civilian in exchange for cash, officials allege.

Buum, Merrill and Thackery face a top charge of ongoing criminal conduct — a Class B felony.

Two separate proposals — one to legalize the sale of marijuana and another to further decriminalize it — must do more to address racial disparities, say some Black leaders in Milwaukee.

Black and brown residents, they say, are disproportionately impacted by the over-criminalization of marijuana, filling up jails and prisons for nonviolent drug offenses.

Nationwide, Blacks are 3.64 times more likely to be arrested for marijuana possession than whites, even though both use marijuana at similar rates, according to an American Civil Liberties Union report that details marijuana arrests from 2010 to 2018.

In Milwaukee, Blacks made up 72% of “small-scale” marijuana possession arrests but 39% of the population between 2012 and 2015, according to research by the Wisconsin Policy Forum, a nonprofit, independent research organization.

The Milwaukee County proposal to reduce fines for marijuana possession is a step in the right direction, but some activists expressed doubts about Gov. Tony Evers’ proposal to legalize recreational marijuana.

Community activist Angela Lang points to the state's political climate. Evers attempted a similar measure two years ago, and Republicans blocked it. Lang doesn’t expect anything would be different this time around.

“Ultimately, we are at the mercy of the legislature,” said Lang, executive director of Black Leaders Organizing for Communities, or BLOC, a community-based organizing group from Milwaukee. “They are the ones that can make or break it. They are the ones that can pass it. And unfortunately, we’ve seen the dysfunction from the Capitol that people are not upholding the will of the people.”

Kenosha News Editorial: Legalize marijuana in Wisconsin

 Gov. Tony Evers said last week he will propose legalizing marijuana for Wisconsin residents in his state budget as part of a plan to generate $166 million in revenue to help fund rural schools and programs for marginalized communities.

Predictably, it was met with a bucket of cold water from state Republicans who can’t seem to spell the word Evers without putting a capital N in front of it.

So, no, we don’t expect Evers’ proposal will come within a wisp of gaining passage from the GOP-controlled Legislature.

But it’s probably a good time for state Republicans to do a reality check.

The reality is this:

Across the country there is a boom in marijuana legalization — both for recreational and medical purposes. In November, voters in Arizona, New Jersey, Montana and South Dakota approved ballot measures to legalize, tax and regulate recreational marijuana. Currently recreational marijuana is legal in 15 states and 36 states allow medical marijuana. Next up will be New York, Virginia, New Mexico and Connecticut where strong pushes for legal recreational use are expected in the coming weeks.

Closer to home, neighbors Michigan and Illinois were already on that list — along with Canada to the north and Mexico is expected to go that route shortly.

Snow-melting hack leads to house fire in Racine

RACINE, Wis. - Crews were called to a home near Luedtke and Elhert shortly before 6:30 Sunday morning for a reported house fire.

Upon arrival, fire crews saw occupants of the home were on the front porch trying to extinguish articles that were on fire. 

A preliminary investigation found the occupant of the home was heating rubbing alcohol to melt ice on their car. After noticing the fire, they tried to take the burning pan from the stove to the outside and tripped spilling the burning contents on the area rug and floor in the living and dining rooms. 

One person was injured and taken to the hospital for treatment.

The Racine Fire Department would like to inform citizens that heating up alcohol on a stove is dangerous and will not help to thaw out a frozen vehicle.

Also, when shoveling snow, don't forget to dig around fire hydrants, allowing for three feet of space around them.

Wisconsin had 1,215 hospitalizations from flu and 26 deaths by this point last year.

This year?

Just 11 flu hospitalizations and no deaths.

At a time when the nation is weary from a year of pandemic, when U.S. deaths from COVID-19 are still averaging well over 2,000 a day, the lack of influenza hospitalizations and fatalities has been a welcome relief.

Hospital workers have not had to divert staff from treating patients with COVID-19 to treat others with severe influenza.

"I think it is surprising. We didn't think we'd see quite the absence of flu that we've seen," said Nasia Safdar, director of infection control at UW Health in Madison. "Obviously we are very happy about it."

By Feb. 10 last year, UW Health had recorded more than 1,183 positive flu tests; on the same date in 2021, the number stood at just one.

Across the U.S., the national flu numbers have been striking. 

The U.S. total of confirmed flu hospitalizations between Oct. 1, 2020, and Feb. 6, 2021, stands at 165. That's the lowest hospitalization rate for any season since routine data collection began in 2005.

Police: Racine man crashed into a snowbank during chase, found with more than 1 pound of marijuana

RACINE — A Racine man allegedly crashed into a snowbank during a police chase, and then was found to have more than 1.3 pounds of marijuana in his possession, in his vehicle and home.

LaSean E. Simmons, 28, of the 500 block of 3 Mile Road, was charged with felony counts of possession with intent to deliver/distribute/manufacture marijuana between 200-1,000 grams and a misdemeanor count of obstructing an officer.

According to a criminal complaint:

On Jan. 30, an officer saw a car speeding on Douglas Avenue through the intersection of South Street. The officer tried to initiate a traffic stop but the car turned onto Kingston Avenue and reportedly “took off at a high rate of speed.” Eventually, the car tried to turn on St. Clair Street but crashed into a snowbank. The driver fled on foot through the backyard of a house on the 3000 block of St. Clair Street.

Simmons

A search of the car was done and a document for Simmons was found as well as an empty bottle of Remy Martin brandy. A vacuum sealed bag with marijuana weighing 462 grams and a glass jar with 7.5 grams of marijuana were found on the side of the road in the 700 block of Kingston Avenue.

On Wednesday, a search warrant was executed at Simmons’ residence and two vacuum sealed bags with marijuana were found, weighing 153.3 grams combined.

Simmons was given a $2,500 cash bond in Racine County Circuit court on Friday. A preliminary court hearing is set for March 3 at the Racine County Law Enforcement Center, 717 Wisconsin Ave., online court records show.

US Senate ACQUITS Trump, ex-president cleared of incitement charges

The US Senate has failed to gather enough votes to convict former President Donald Trump, after a Democrat-led impeachment trial. Trump had been accused of "incitement of insurrection" after his supporters rioted on Capitol Hill.

The Senate voted 57-43 on Saturday in favor of impeachment, falling short of the 67 votes needed to comprise the constitutionally required two-thirds majority.

Democrats managed to win two more Republican votes, compare to when the Senate voted in late January to go forward with the trial. Still, only seven Republican Senators broke ranks with their party to find Trump guilty.

The five Republicans who voted to hold the trial – Mitt Romney (Utah), Susan Collins (Maine), Lisa Murkowski (Alaska), Ben Sasse (Nebraska) and Pat Toomey (Pennsylvania) – also voted to convict Trump. They were joined by Bill Cassidy (Louisiana) and Richard Burr (North Carolina). Toomey and Burr have announced plans to retire, so they won’t have to face the prospect of Trump’s campaigning against their re-election in 2022.

Trump was impeached last month, for the second time, over his words to supporters on January 6, when he encouraged them to "fight like hell" against what he maintained was a "rigged election." 

Though Trump had urged his followers to protest the certification of the election "peacefully and patriotically, "some of these supporters went on to force their way inside the US Capitol, with the ensuing riot briefly halting the certification process. One Trump supporter was shot dead by Capitol police, a police officer died in unclear circumstances, and three other participants died of "health emergencies" during the fracas. Two police officers committed suicide in the days following the riot.

Prion diseases are rare, fatal, degenerative brain disorders that are thought to occur worldwide in both humans and animals. They belong to the general category of brain diseases called proteinopathies, which also includes Alzheimer's disease, Parkinson's disease, and amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS). Although there are several forms of human prion disease, the most common is Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease (CJD). The term CJD is often used to refer to all forms of human prion disease. Prion diseases that affect animals include Bovine Spongiform Encephalopathy (BSE) in cattle, scrapie in sheep and goats, and Chronic Wasting Disease (CWD) in deer, moose, elk, and caribou or reindeer. Although they are rare, these diseases have caused great public health concern because of their many difficult and unusual features.

How Prion Diseases affect the brain

The brains of people or animals with prion disease undergo damage, called "spongiform change" or "spongiosis" because when the tissue is examined under a microscope it resembles a sponge, with many tiny holes. In addition, the brain tissue contains abnormal deposits of a specific protein called the prion protein (PrP). These pathological changes can be caused by genetic variations, or apparently arise spontaneously within a single individual. However, they can also be caused by infectious transmission between individuals of the same or different species.

THOSE “VACCINES”: CHRONIC NEUROLOGICAL DISEASE POTENTIAL

IIf you have been following the career and website of Robert F. Kennedy, Jr., son of the late U.S. Senator, you will be aware that he's not exactly persona grata in the corridors of big pharma power. But V.T. caught and shared this latest article from Mr. Kennedy's website, The Children's Health Defense, and it has one paragraph in particular that caught my eye:

Back in 1999, leading U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) official Dr. Peter Patriarca contended that modern advances in vaccine technology were rapidly “outpacing researchers’ ability to predict potential vaccine-related adverse events.” Patriarca mused that this could lead to “a situation of unforeseen and unpredictable vaccine outcomes.”

In a new research article published in Microbiology & Infectious Diseases, veteran immunologist J. Bart Classen expresses similar concerns and writes that “RNA-based COVID vaccines have the potential to cause more disease than the epidemic of COVID-19.”

For decades, Classen has published papers exploring how vaccination can give rise to chronic conditions such as Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes — not right away, but three or four years down the road.
