The Devil made 'em do it

Hate, not incident at Obama rally, is the real issue

By ROCHELLE RILEY • FREE PRESS BLOGGER • June 19, 2008

We are missing the bigger story.

That two young Muslim women wearing head scarves were steered away from seats behind Sen. Barack Obama at his televised Detroit rally on Monday was sad, but not the bigger story.
That his campaign apologized, as it should have, for the badly mishandled incident by campaign volunteers was not the bigger story.

The bigger story is that hateful extremists who used to exist on the fringe of society are now taking over and too much is being done to appease them instead of ignore them.

The Obama volunteers who didn't want the women to provide fuel for rumors that Obama is a secret Muslim chose to let hate-mongers dictate their actions and hurt the women's feelings. They made a mistake, as far as we know. (Of course, the Web would have you believe that they did it on purpose because they KNEW that these women were actually plants by Sen. John McCain's campaign, an unlikely but possible scenario that seems all the more impossible when you read about their wonderful attitudes.)

God's Pharmacy! Amazing!

I'm not a bible thumper but this is kinda interesting.....

A sliced Carrot looks like the human eye. The pupil, iris and radiating lines look just like the human eye... and YES, science now shows carrots greatly enhance blood flow to and function of the eyes.

A Tomato has four chambers and is red. The heart has four chambers and is red. All of the research shows tomatoes are loaded with lycopine and are indeed pure heart and blood food.

Grapes hang in a cluster that has the shape of the heart. Each grape looks like a blood cell and all of the research today shows grapes are also profound heart and blood vitalizing food.

A Walnut looks like a little brain, a left and right hemisphere, upper cerebrums and lower cerebellums. Even the wrinkles or folds on the nut are just like the neo-cortex. We now know walnuts help develop more than three (3) dozen neuron-transmitters for brain function.

Kidney Beans actually heal and help maintain kidney function and yes, they look exactly like the human kidneys.

Celery, Bok Choy, Rhubarb and many more look just like bones. These foods specifically target bone strength. Bones are 23% sodium and these foods are 23% sodium. If you don't have enough sodium in your diet, the body pulls it from the bones, thus making them weak. These foods replenish the skeletal needs of the body.

Avocadoes, Eggplant and Pears target the health and function of the womb and cervix of the female - they look just like these organs. Today's research shows that when a woman eats one avocado a week, it balances hormones, sheds unwanted birth weight, and prevents cervical cancers. And how profound is this? It takes exactly nine (9) months to grow an avocado from blossom to ripened fruit. There are over 14,000 photolytic chemical constituents of nutrition in each one of these foods (mo dern science has only studied and named about 141 of them).

Olives assist the health and function of the ovaries

Figs are full of seeds and hang in twos when they grow. Figs increase the mobility of male sperm and increase the numbers of Sperm as well to overcome male sterility.

Sweet Potatoes look like the pancreas and actually balance the glycemic index of diabetics.

Oranges, Grapefruit, and other citrus fruits look just like the mammary glands of the female and actually assist the health of the breasts and the movement of lymph in and out of the breasts.

Onions look like the body's cells. Today's research shows onions help clear waste materials from all of the body cells. They even produce tears which wash the epithelial layers of the eyes. A working companion, Garlic, also helps eliminate waste materials and dangerous free radicals from the body.

Unified needs technology upgrade
District hopes three-year plan will help

Many schools are using hardware that is “becoming antiquated at best,” School Board member Don Nielsen said Monday.

He asked his fellow board members to take a hard look at the technology plan and an accompanying analysis by Unified’s instructional technology department that pointed out the need to address the aging technology.

“I would see this as a stepping-off point, possibly down the road, for resurrecting the technology referendum,” Nielsen said. “It’s quite obvious in talking to the staff that our technology needs are growing.”

Belated Happy Father's Day

Newest Darwin Award Nominee

A 19-year-old man accidentally shot and killed himself Tuesday morning while he was attempting to rob a Grand Prairie home, authorities said.

Cameron Sands, 19, of Fort Worth kicked in the door of the house and then shot himself in the stomach as he pulled a gun out of his pants to shoot the homeowner, Grand Prairie police said. The homeowner was not injured.

After Mr. Sands shot himself, he dropped the gun and ran out of the home. Police found his body around 5:30 a.m. in the driveway of the home in the 2800 block Garden Grove Road, said Lt. John Brimmer, a Grand Prairie police spokesman.

Hey, that's not a real word!

But the New York Times Crossword puzzle used it anyway. Saturday, June 14ths NYT puzzle, clue 1.A: Modern coinage meaning intuition without regard to the facts.

The answer: "Truthiness", the world coined by none other than Stephen Colbert.

Interesting...

Solstice Moon Illusion

"June 16 , 2008: Sometimes you just can't believe your eyes. This week is one of those times.

"On Wednesday night, June 18th, step outside at sunset and look around. You'll see a giant form rising in the east. At first glance it looks like the full Moon. It has craters and seas and the face of a man, but this 'moon' is strangely inflated. It's huge!

"You've just experienced the Moon Illusion."

Seems to me to be even faster than 2. What I really like, though, is the clarity of the typeface. I have a visual impairment that always made Internet Explorer 7 appear more readable to me - now they're equal.

I don't like change, though, and they had to change the appearance of the buttons on the toolbar, didn't they?

All in all, a much better product that IE7, faster, much safer, more intuitive and easy to use, and it's free!

If you didn't already realize it about them already...

...this is what is wrong with the JT "censorship". Just look at some of the comments in this horribly tragic story. First off, it should not have even been put in the newspaper. To me it's disrespectful in this circumstance and makes me sick. Second, to allow the comments that some of the "bloggers" have made just proves once again that the JT has selective censorship.

Winger?

Did he leave in a Right winged huff, or was he tossed in the trash for being offensive?

The JT Blog site

Well, it looks like they really screwed it up good this time. They moved all the blog entries way down on the page. At first, I thought my browser was having trouble painting the screen. After a couple of refreshes, I realized what they had done.

Once there, I noticed that VERY few comments are being posted. Could be that many people are just not seeing the entries. Seems to me to be fairly idiotic. Even Gray Kitty complained.

Don't Get Too Close to the Sun...Oops!

There is a satellite called SOHO (the Solar and Heliospheric Observatory) that orbits at a gravitationally balanced point between the Earth and the Sun called L1 (the First Lagangian point). This orbit allows the satellite to always point toward the Sun for pretty much continuous observations. Launched in 1995 and still going strong.

SOHO has two cameras with coronographs. A coronograph is literally a disk placed in front of the Sun so you can observe the area around the Sun which does happen to contain the Sun's corona (hence the name).

Yesterday it saw a comet get a little too close to the Sun. These comets are called Sungrazers and SOHO has discovered a lot of them (I remember when they 1000th was discovered, and they are rapidly closing in on 1500). You can see the comet approach, grow a nice tail, and then disintegrate before your eyes.

This isn't the biggest, best or most spectacular one SOHO has seen, but merely the most recent. There are amazing things going on in our universe all the time and I encourage you to visit sites such as the SOHO home page from time to time...you never know what just happened!

Don't Agree? Just shoot them says Micheal Reagan

Conservative talk show host Micheal Reagan recently said of 9-11 truther Mark Dice, "How about you take Mark Dice out and put him in the middle of the firing range? Tie him to a post, don’t blindfold him, and let it rip and have some fun with Mark Dice.” He even made the generous offer, "I’ll pay for the bullet." You can listen to Reagan's remarks on youtube.

His big beef is that Dice's group is allegedly sending materials to our troops in Iraq claiming 9/11 was an inside job (which I am on record in previous blogs as disagreeing with this group quite vigorously and will therefore not even link to his material). In Reagan's view, this is an offense that demands execution without trial.

Howard Stern lost a job for insulting a woman's basketball team, yet this guy openly calls for vigilante executions and keeps his job? Heck, our so called "liberal media" hasn't even uttered a peep about this one. The only places I find any references to this are the fringe media such as The Raw Story and Godlike Productions (which is so atrocious I am not even going to provide a link!)

According to the article, Dice has received a personal apology from Reagan and will appear (or has appeared) on Reagan's show today to receive an on air apology.

I don't listen to a lot of conservative talk radio (never heard Reagan's show before) but there is some frightening and threatening rhetoric coming from these shows.

Hot Rod Power Tour Returning to Racine in 2009

Announcement: http://news.racinepost.com/2008/06/hot-rods-will-return-to-racine-in-2009.html

I'm a bit of a gearhead and was disappointed with the rain that greeted last year's tour. I finally got out later in the day and walked around and took some pictures. I hope that we have better weather next time. I also wonder how those guys and gals can afford to drive from city to city these days?

Madame Zoltar: Tomorrow's News Today

Hello, childrens!

Here are my predictions for the coming week in the Racine area:

The National Weather Service will issue a storm watch/warning, tornado watch/warning, forecast a blizzard, damaging high winds with hail, an electrical storm, an ice storm, a hurricane, a typhoon, and/or acid rain - all of this with 100% certainty. None of it will happen.

Someone, somewhere in Racine will be shot, stabbed, hit, mugged, robbed, and/or raped. All of it will happen, probably at once.

Mayor Becker will make an appearance at some obscure forum somewhere out of state, quite possibly out of the country, speaking with great knowledge and insight on a subject that has absolutely nothing to do with Racine or the problems facing this city. None of the local media will report on this except for the Racine Post.

The winning lottery numbers will be 4 - 32 - 78.926 - 40,698,251 - √378 - Ï€

Thank you, and have a wonderful week!

A Chance to Do to the Politicains What They Do To us

Of all the novelty political products, you can now buy Barack Obama and John McCain condoms. Yep, according to the story posted below, Obama has bigger....sales so far but McCain is rising fast.

These products will provide hours of stimulating conversation.

JT blogs

Can they get it anymore wrong? The latest gimmick of no general view and segregated neighborhoods shows it is now just a pablum for the JT reporters and writers. Now you have to hit links to see anything and no longer an easy stroll to see who is saying what. Maybe they just like pounding nails in their coffin. Whoever thought of this latest is an idiot.

Sorry JT, you're going to find out real quick that your hits fall like a waterfall and the ad revinue you were hoping for due to those hits if it ever amounted to much will also be falling. Not only that, but the news hits you think you're getting aren't correct. Your idiot IT has a setting screwed up so that when a viewer hits their back button they actually refresh the screen and it refreshes the screen of the same news item and maybe showing up as a fresh hit. A person has to do the drop down history and then bypass the JT news to get out of it. I can even imagine folks would just stop using your service at all because of this problem.

I've been left behind? Here's your chance to gloat

I have been told many times that I am not exactly in God's good graces by a wide variety of people. Now a web site called You've Been Left Behind give you the opportunity to leave me a message saying, in effect, "I told you so!" after the rapture.

For the low price of only $40 for the first year, you can leave messages to be sent to up to 62 email addresses of your damned (literally) friends and family. Yep, you can finally tell your gay uncle, the ACLU member at your office, your feminist friends, and college roommate who had an abortion exactly why they weren't carried away in the rapture. While you and your family are safely in heaven, automated emails will go out to those behind to suffer on Earth.

How does the system know when the rapture has occourred? No, they didn't hire some atheists to monitor the system. If three of five top execs do not log in for three days in a row, the system for three days in a row, the emails are set to go out (I find this interesting since it implies they think there is a good chance that at least two of them will be left behind!)

I can see this leading to some embarassing situations when I get an email from someone telling me I have been left behind and then seeing that person at work the next day...awkward!

What's the next great party in the world?

There are a few events which truly cause large, nationwide (sometimes international) parties. I am talking the types of parties that transcend everything...politics, race, class, religion, etc.

There are a few obvious examples: The end of World War II was a big one. I remember in college thinking I would have given ANYTHING to be in Germany the day the Berlin Wall fell, knowing that I was missing what was probably the biggest spontaneous party likely to occur in my lifetime.

Events like that are exceptionally rare. Do I have a chance of seeing one in my lifetime? What event could possibly spark such a celebration in the next forty years or so?

Tim Russert Dies at 58.

May he rest in peace. Sad sad day.

Jeff DeMark at the Sixth Street Theatre this Weekend

Racine native Jeff DeMark will be performing his show, "Writing My Way Out of Adolescence," at the Sixth Street Theatre tonight and Saturday. Details here: http://www.journaltimes.com/articles/2008/06/13/life/doc48505af0c79b2159082204.txt

I went to high school with Jeff, but got to know him better afterwards, at college and from his and friends' "Poetry Smörgåsbord" shows in Madison in the 70's. One of my favorite stories about him concerns a visit he paid to me and my then wife in Chicago in the mid 80's. We went out to a pub/club in the trendy Lincoln Park area. There, a fellow appeared onstage with a guitar. The performer sang some songs, but, unfortunately, he stunk. The audience more or less ignored the guy and people chatted away while he sang. This perturbed the guy, so he stopped his performance and made some comments about the audience ignoring him. A few people replied with "You suck" and "You stink." We added in our two cents. The performer then said, "If any of you think you can do better, come on up here and try." Without hesitation, and much to my and my wife's surprise, Jeff stood up and walked to the stage. He took the guy's guitar, sat on his stool, and launched into songs and stories. The audience loved it! After a few minutes, the performer cut in and took back his guitar. The audience applauded for Jeff. I knew then that he was going places.

Check out his show.

47 Ursa Majoris: This is War!

And it was declared by the nation of Doritos. Yep, Doritos held a contest to produce a commercial that would be beamed to the star 47 Ursa Majoris, a star known to have a planetary system. Although no Earthlike planets have been found, they are too small to be detected with today's technology and there structure of the system leaves the possibility open of their existence.

"But surely this can't be a declaration of war?" you say. Before you judge, watch the commercial.

Now imagine you are an alien and you receive this transmission. Yikes! There is a planet 45 light years away with GIANT BEINGS that feast on small yellow dancing traingles!

This is clearly a sign of a threatening society and the only solution is to launch an all out assault!

I am so sick of criminal illegal aliens wrecking havoc in our communities. This idiot was deported in February, but found his way back in. Congress should do two things immediately. Pass a law that negates citizenship for any children born to illegal aliens. Pass a law that calls for 20 years in jail for anyone deported and found back in the country.

Is there any truth to these statements?

NICKNAMES
• If Laura, Kate and Sarah go out for lunch, they will call each other Laura, Kate and Sarah.
• If Mike, Dave and John go out, they will affectionately refer to each other as Fat Boy, Godzilla and Four-eyes.

EATING OUT
• When the bill arrives, Mike, Dave and John will each throw in $20, even though it's only for $32.50. None of them will have anything smaller and none will actually admit they want change back.
• When the girls get their bill, out come the pocket calculators.

MONEY
• A man will pay $2 for a $1 item he needs.
• A woman will pay $1 for a $2 item that she doesn't need but it's on sale.

BATHROOMS
• A man has six items in his bathroom: toothbrush and toothpaste, shaving cream, razor, a bar of soap, and a towel .
• The average number of items in the typical woman's bathroom is 337. A man would not be able to identify more than 20 of these items.

ARGUMENTS
• A woman has the last word in any argument.
• Anything a man says after that is the beginning of a new argument.

FUTURE
• A woman worries about the future until she gets a husband.
• A man never worries about the future until he gets a wife.

SUCCESS
• A successful man is one who makes more money than his wife can spend.
• A successful woman is one who can find such a man.

MARRIAGE
• A woman marries a man expecting he will change, but he doesn't.
• A man marries a woman expecting that she won't change, but she does.

DRESSING UP
• A woman will dress up to go shopping, water the plants, empty the trash, answer the phone, read a book, and get the mail.
• A man will dress up for weddings and funerals.

NATURAL
• Men wake up as good-looking as they went to bed.
• Women somehow deteriorate during the night.

OFFSPRING
• Ah, children. A woman knows all about her children. She knows about dentist appointments and romances, best friends, favorite foods, secret fears and hopes and dreams.
• A man is vaguely aware of some short people living in the house

Carp Recipes

There are a lot of flood stories out there. And a lot of those mention the presence of carp in unlikely places: backyards, city streets, etc. As the waters recede, we may discover a bounty of the big goldfish have been left behind. Mmm-mmm. Post your carp recipes here.

Carp Casserole

3 cups cooked carp
2 cups cooked rice
2 Tablespoons grated onion
2 Tablespoons melted margarine
1 Tablespoon minced parsley
1 Tablespoon lemon juice
1/2 cup milk
2 well-beaten eggs
1 tsp. salt
Pepper to taste

Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Combine ingredients. Place in greased loaf pan. Bake for 40 minutes. Serve with fresh salad, small boiled and buttered potatoes sprinkled with parsley, and creamed peas.

Holy Crap... we made google!

I was doing a search on google for Dr Pulliam in racine and got this:

Racine's beach after the floods and sewage dump

Why Pulliam might not be coming

Why might have Dr Pulliam "pulled out" (JT's headline, not mine) from RUSD? Here are my theories:

Board members too busy following marching orders from the business community rather than doing what is best for the kids....

Wouldn't follow the Hicks educational model.

Not enough cash.

Didn't like the way Hicks redecorated the office.

Sue Kutz tried to censure her comments too.

Not as warm as Georgia.

Found out how many mosquito's are coming after the floods.

Took a look at her old district, decided it was not as screwed up as RUSD and decided to stay.

Saw RUSD's Test scores this year.

She wouldn't "Play ball" with the teachers union.

Too much crime and violence.

Wanted to live in the art district but Becker said no.

Hates the Packers.

Any other theories?

Flooding in Racine

For anyone that missed it, below is an excerpt from "Mayor" Becker in today's JT online. I am posting it here, along with my comment, since we all know anything negative said about Becker will get deleted by the JT Nazi Camp.

“For four, five, six inches of rain, it’s not a big deal,” Becker said. “Where we have water is where you would think we would have water. There are no big surprises that I’ve come across.”

Around 9 Sunday night, Becker changed his mind.

“It’s turning into a bigger deal than we thought,” Becker said. “We might have some serious problems before this is all said and done.”

Are you SERIOUS? What a Moron. This guy needs to get his head out of his behind for once. Just because he was okay meant this wasn't a big deal at first??? GARY: NEXT TIME, GET IN YOUR CAR AND DRIVE AROUND THE DAMN CITY BEFORE YOU MAKE AN IDIOTIC STATEMENT AND HAVE TO PUT YOUR FOOT IN YOUR MOUTH!

Anyone by the lake Saturday night?

Anyone else down by the lake Saturday night? Went for a little road trip Sat night to see the lake in between storms. Got some cool photos of cloud formations, and I think a water spout forming. This was right before the 8:45 (?) storm that came through Saturday night. Will post pics later.

UFOs: Real, Not Real, or I Am An Alien?

This is one of my favorite subjects. Are UFOs real? What are they? Swamp gas? Advance scouts for an invading armada? Friend or foe or figment of the imagination?

I've never seen a UFO, though I've always wanted to. But I don't go out of my way to look for them, either. As to what they are or if they exist, I am an agnostic. I would love to have a close encounter - I think. I'd probably poop my pants.

Have you ever seen one? What do you think they are? Are you in contact with them? Can they predict tomorrow's lottery numbers?

I need to borrow some carbon credits

It's a doggone good thing the Cap and Trade on carbon emissions hasn't been enacted (and I hope it doesn't). I've had the sauerkraut farts so bad this week I would have run out of carbon credits.....
