"100 Places of Dance"

I'm sweating from watching so much dance.

Weekend Funny

The Second Coming

Turning and turning in the widening gyre
The falcon cannot hear the falconer;
Things fall apart; the centre cannot hold;
Mere anarchy is loosed upon the world,
The blood-dimmed tide is loosed, and everywhere
The ceremony of innocence is drowned;
The best lack all conviction, while the worst
Are full of passionate intensity.

Surely some revelation is at hand;
Surely the Second Coming is at hand.
The Second Coming! Hardly are those words out
When a vast image out of Spiritus Mundi
Troubles my sight: a waste of desert sand;
A shape with lion body and the head of a man,
A gaze blank and pitiless as the sun,
Is moving its slow thighs, while all about it
Wind shadows of the indignant desert birds.

The darkness drops again but now I know
That twenty centuries of stony sleep
Were vexed to nightmare by a rocking cradle,
And what rough beast, its hour come round at last,
Slouches towards Bethlehem to be born?

-William ButlerYeats

"William Butler Yeats (/ˈjeɪts/; 13 June 1865 – 28 January 1939) was an Irish poet and one of the foremost  figures of 20th century literature. A pillar of both the Irish and British literary establishments, in his later years he served as an Irish Senator for two terms. Yeats was a driving force behind the Irish Literary Revival and, along with Lady Gregory, Edward Martyn, and others, founded the Abbey Theatre, where he served as its chief during its early years. In 1923, he was awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature as the first Irishman so honoured[1] for what the Nobel Committee described as 'inspired poetry, which in a highly artistic form gives expression to the spirit of a whole nation.' Yeats is generally considered one of the few writers who completed their greatest works after being awarded the Nobel Prize; such works include The Tower (1928) and The Winding Stair and Other Poems (1929).[2] Yeats was a very good friend of American expatriate poet and Bollingen Prize laureate Ezra Pound. Yeats wrote the introduction for Rabindranath Tagore's Gitanjali, which was published by the India Society.[3]"

"Teacher suspended after jamming students' phones"

From Break:

by PhilHaney on 1 hours ago

"The man is a damn hero, yet a Florida science teacher is in some hot water over his decision to not take crap from his students anymore.

Teacher of The Year

"Dean Liptak, who teaches at Fivay High School in Hudson, Florida was sick and tired of student’s cell phones ringing, beeping and interrupting his class. So he did what anyone who has had to sit behind teenagers at a movie theater wishes they had thought of. He bought a cell phone jammer… and those little bastards’ phones stopped buzzing.

"There is a lot of rage between people who use their phones at inappropriate times and those who 'aren’t going to take it anymore.' This week on Break we saw a motorcyclist tell a driver to stop texting in the car only to get run over by that driver in retaliation. That is why it is great to see a teacher standing up for himself and the respect of his classroom; after all, simply telling them not to use their phones in school would only make them want to do it more.  Liptak thought the jammer would work only for his classroom. Unfortunately that was not the case;

"A spokesperson from the Pasco County School District, Linda Cobbe told local reporters: 'Verizon had come to the school saying someone had a jamming device, because the cell phone service was being interrupted in the area.'

"Mr. Lipta is going to get some silence for at least one week of school as he has been reprimanded and given a five day suspension without pay over the incident. While cell phone jammers are not illegal, they can be if there are harmful consequences in their use; such as stopping service in the nearby neighborhood. Hopefully these kids learned some kind of lesson from all of this. I know one science teacher that would have made these kids show some respect."

Do you think all schools should use cell phone jammers to stop kids from going on their phones during class?

Dear Madame Zoltar

Hello, my doves and hawks!  How are you?  Are you enjoying your ride on the weather rollercoaster?  My God, it’s changeable these days.  One day I wear shorts, the next day I’m donning my winter coat.  One friend told me that this seems more like fall than spring to him.  To me, June means summer.  This June means forties for the temperatures.  Another friend says that he remembers 4th of Julys so cold that the parade-goers wore long pants and jackets.  Deep down inside of me is a ball of fear that we’ve messed up the climate permanently.  Our existence is entirely dependent upon the climate.  Dying honeybees and major swings in the climate scare me.  They scare me for Junior’s future.  They scare me for everybody’s future.

This is the first year I’m considering letting Junior go out for “real” football at school.  He’s played his share of flag football and I hope he’s ready for the discipline of the real thing.  They’ve already started practicing.  He comes home from practices exhausted.  He’s earned his share of bruises.  As long as no arteries are severed or bones broken, I’m going to try not to worry too much.  (Sigh, as if any mother can stop worrying about her children.)

Thank you, Ms. Tender Heart Bear, for the wildflower blog below (http://www.jtirregulars.com/2015/06/wildflowers-pt-2.html).  I love the beauty of spring, but loathe the temperatures, snow, and ice of winter.  While we’re on the subject, I’m going to make a plug for the Chicago Botanic Garden (which isn’t even in Cook County): http://www.chicagobotanic.org/.  I’ve been there numerous times, at different times of the year, and the beauty is breathaking.  If you plan on visiting and eating, I suggest that you pack your own lunch.  The food in the cafeteria is great, but the prices are astronomical.  I realize it’s for the Garden, but I won’t (can’t) pay their prices.

The gossip on the proposed raise for City Administrator Tom Freidel is nasty.  Mr. Freidel says he doesn’t know if he’d stay if there is no raise.  So offer him nothing more.  If he stays, he stays.  That saves the city $30K per annum.  If he resigns, so what?  Then it might be a good time to re-examine the position.  If it’s decided that we still need an administrator, offer the position for $100,000 a year, a city car. full benefits and perks.  I betcha Human Resources would be swamped with responses.  Then again, if Racine’s reputation proceeds us, maybe not.

The argument that that’s what other cities pay is weak.  As my mother would say, “If those other cities jumped off a cliff, would you jump, too?”  Every city mentioned is doing better than Racine.  See, Mr. Mayor Dicker, results should get rewards.  So soon after screwing city employees, Mr. Mayor has the nerve to suggest a major raise for his cousin.  There’s no doubting his chutzpah.  Mr. Mayor takes care of business, running for governor after Mr. Walker wins the presidency.  And “Machinery Row” is his gift to Racine, his legacy, if you will.  If you won’t, he might end up wearing jail orange.

Thank you my dears for reading my blog.  These are the ranting of an old woman who more than once has been labeled a fraud.  It doesn’t matter here.  This is our safe zone.

Applications for the new City Administrator can be obtained here: MadameZoltar@jtirregulars.com

Enjoy the good days, weather-wise, and try to stay dry the other days, Have fun in the sun, but don’t forget to keep your eyes open.  Y’see that guy across the street with the sticks of TNT wrapped around his waist?  There’s something very suspicious about him.

"Proposed Friedel raise breeds debate"

From The Journal Times.com:

"RACINE — What direction should be given to the Committee of the Whole when it meets to consider the extension of City Administrator Tom Friedel’s contract and a proposed 31 percent raise for the position was the source of debate during Tuesday’s City Council meeting.

"Aldermen debated whether signing off on the Finance and Personnel Committee’s vote to have the request sent to the Committee of the Whole with a recommendation supporting the proposed raise would mean the council itself was actually supporting that recommendation.

"Alderman Sandy Weidner made a proposal to table the finance committee’s recommendation so the Committee of the Whole could meet to discuss the extension of Friedel’s contract without a recommendation on what kind of raise he may or may not deserve.

"Mayor John Dickert and even City Attorney Rob Weber seemed to have different understandings of what tabling the item — a move alderman supported 8-7 — might actually do.

"Dickert requested the body take a five-minute recess, after which City Council President Dennis Wiser made a direct referral to send the item to the Committee of the Whole."

"Why We’re Hosting A Forum On Bullying"

From Racine County Eye:

By Denise Lockwood in Breaking · June 1, 2015

"The Racine County Eye is hosting a forum on bullying from 6 to 8 p.m. June 3 at the Bray Center, 924 Center Street.

"We’d love for you to be there because we know how important children are in this community. And for us, the issue of bullying has become too important to ignore.

"After 15-year-old Caledonia resident Cameron Langrell committed suicide in April after he was bullied when he came out as transgender, Heather Asiyanbi and I started talking about how the community reacted and what we can do to help people have better discussions about this issue. We noticed the need for information: How bullying is addressed in the community, what resources are available, and what to do if your child is being bullied or is the bully.

"We noticed that parents often feel almost as isolated as their children do when their children are being bullied and we’d like to help change that. This is a forum on bullying of all forms, not just kids that are transgender."

Good, good, good.  I wish this type of awareness was around when I was in school.  I vote for branding bullies with a "B" on their foreheads.  To this day, when I see a video where a bully gets beat up, I admit to feeling a visceral joy.

"Kung Fury is an over-the-top 80’s action comedy that was crowd funded through Kickstarter. It features Kung Fury, a Kung Fu renegade cop who travels back in time to kill his Nemesis, Hitler. The film features nazis, dinosaurs, vikings and cheesy one-liners.

"The campaign that was launched in December 2013 was backed by more than 17 000 people who together gave more than $630 000"

"Police, minority relations discussion at forum Saturday"

From The Journal Times.com:

"The Luft-wafer: Ice cream cone named after Adolf Hitler on sale in India sparks anger in Germany"

From The Daily Mail.com:
  • Germans are outraged by treat named after Adolf Hitler
  • Lack of Holocaust education in the country means the snack isn't shocking
  • The ice cream cones are readily-available across India
  • German newspaper Bild labelled the cones a macabre publicity stunt
"Even for the most dedicated of ice cream lovers this sweet treat may prove a little hard to swallow. Unbelievably a brand of ice cream cone is readily available in India which is named after Hitler. It’s difficult to fathom what the Nazi leader may have in common with the crunchy snack, but Hitler’s name is splashed across boxes of the tasteless delicacy which is hawked across the country.

"Meanwhile the cold eyes of the killer stare out at ice cream customers from the side of the packaging.

"In some instances he appears in cartoon form in a Swastika-shaped top hat with a jaunty red bowtie, which is somewhat at odds with his furious expression.

"Other more sombre packages depict him in full military regalia with almost photographic realism, looking very out of place next to an ice cream that's almost as big as he is.

"But all the boxes of cones have the notorious moustache on display.

"A lack of Holocaust education in India means that people on the sub-continent know little about the Nazi leader, and consequently Hitler-themed pubs and restaurants are not viewed with outrage.

"But back in the country that struggles to shake off his murderous legacy 70 years after his death, it is a different story.

"News of the Hitler ice cream cones provoked a furious response on websites calling for the brand to be withdrawn.

"One spectator in Berlin, said: ‘There is taste and there is tastelessness. The people of India should be made aware of the terrible crimes committed by him.’

"German newspaper Bild labelled the ice cream cones a ‘macabre publicity stunt’, while several Twitter users branded them ‘tasteless!’"

So everyone thought Hitler escaped to Argentina, when all along he'd been making and hawking ice cream in India.

"Mayor proposes 30 percent salary hike for Friedel"

From The Journal Times.com:

"RACINE – City Administrator Tom Friedel would see his pay increase by 30 percent over two years under a contract extension proposed by Mayor John Dickert and Deputy City Attorney Scott Letteney

"Under the proposal, Friedel’s current annual salary of $99,237 would climb to $115,000 on July 13, 2015, and then to $130,000 on July 13, 2016.

"Making the pitch for the increase before the Finance and Personnel Committee on Tuesday, Letteney said Dickert said the reason for the request was two-fold: to put Friedel’s salary in line with city administrators in similar communities and to make the salary for the position competitive."

Read more:  http://journaltimes.com/news/local/mayor-proposes-percent-salary-hike-for-friedel/article_afb365ce-7611-5fc9-a9dd-4ac319cf0891.html

As of this posting, there were 48 comments posted on the Journal Times story, all but one against the raise.  I hope they all voted and voted against Dickert.  It doesn't matter, though, because this is a done deal.  At a time when we're repeatedly told that the city is broke, this spits in the face of those who lost streetlights or other services.

Friedel's already getting $100K per year and a city car.  This is horseshit, but Racine will eat it.

Poll - Do You Look Forward to Madame Zoltar's Blogs?

Dear Madame Zoltar

Hello, my sweet peas and sour pusses!  How are you?  Did you have a good Memorial Day weekend?  Memorial Day started out wet, but ended up a glorious day.  I read that we hit 80 degrees that day.  We (Señor Zanza, Junior, and me) spent the afternoon grilling out and hanging out in the backyard.

We have a regular old charcoal grill.  Junior, of course, wanted to set aflame the briquettes in the grill.  First, though, Señor Zanza had to tediously arrange every last briquette.  (I kept thinking, “They’re going to be ashes in an hour,” but I kept my mouth shut.)  Junior then soaked and soaked and soaked and soaked the briquettes with lighter fluid.  Then he went around one more time just to be sure.  He threw a lit book of matches into the grill.  I believe that the resulting fireball was visible in Milwaukee and set off nearby earthquake detectors.  That’s my boy.

I can hardly wait for his summer vacation.  I haven’t told Junior yet, but I got him a summer job with a local lawn care company.  When times are tough, everyone has to kick in.  Señor Zanza, of course, always has all the money he needs.  Where and how he got the money is his business.

Of course, my judgment might be colored by the fact that Señor Zanza insists upon paying half of all our monthly bills, plus rent.  Do you know how much a teenage boy eats? Señor Zanza pays for half of that and the teenager is not a blood relative.  The Señor has brought nothing but goodness into our household.  So, I don’t care where he gets the money.  In fact, I don’t want to know.  The less I know, the less guilty I’ll appear if something is amiss.

I must say this: Señor Zanza has never brought anyone to visit our home.  He says that’s for our protection. When I push him on it, he says he wants our home and us to remain safe from certain elements.  That’s as far as it ever gets.  He’ll say no more.

I must admit that I do feel “safe” in his presence, yet this old gal can hold her own against the best.  Señor Zanza and I have a complicated relationship, but he appears to be a good role model for Junior.  As longs at that continues and he causes no trouble for us, I like having him around.  Sometimes, I like it a lot.

Following this blog (up above) will be a poll concerning me and my blog.  Please pause for a moment to take it.

Hey, here’s a video featuring “Animal sound Man:”
