A COVID-19 outbreak across four states that has infected at least 11 people was started by a 13-year-old girl who spread the coronavirus during a family vacation, according to a recent report from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
The data contributes to the "increasing evidence that children and adolescents can efficiently transmit SARS-CoV-2, the virus that causes (COVID-19)," the CDC said in the report. It also serves as a warning for families considering traveling and staying under the same roof this the holiday season.

A Wauwatosa police officer will not face criminal charges in the fatal shooting of a 17-year-old outside Mayfair mall, but his job is at risk after an independent investigator recommended he be fired.
Officer Joseph Mensah acted in self-defense when he shot and killed Alvin Cole in the Mayfair mall parking lot, Milwaukee County District Attorney John Chisholm said Wednesday.
The decision marked the third time Chisholm has cleared Mensah in an on-duty fatal shooting, while Wauwatosa readied for possible protests and unrest Wednesday night and set a 7 p.m. curfew through Monday. Soon after the announcement, more than 100 protesters marched onto the I-94 freeway during rush hour.
In the last five years, Mensah has killed three people — Cole in February, Jay Anderson Jr. in 2016 and Antonio Gonzales in 2015. Mensah also did not face any internal discipline in those earlier two shootings.

Known as SN2018gv, the supernova was first spotted in mid-January of 2018 at the edge of the barred spiral galaxy NGC 2525, about 70 million light years from Earth. It’s a Type Ia supernova, meaning it originates from a binary white dwarf star that’s sucking in matter from its companion star.
Once it takes in material equivalent to about 1.44 times the mass of our Sun, it gets hot enough to ignite carbon fusion and trigger a thermonuclear runaway process. That leads to a violent explosion that can eject matter at up to 6 percent the speed of light and cause a peak brightness of 5 billion times that of the Sun.
Scientists know fairly precisely how much light a type Ia supernova produces, so they can use them as a “standard candle” to gauge distance. By comparing the theoretical with the observed brightness, they can accurately calculate the distance to the supernova and its accompanying galaxy. That in turn adds more data to calculate the Hubble constant, or rate of the universe’s expansion.
When seen next to NGC 2525, the supernova shone more brightly than any other stars in that galaxy. However, the explosion dimmed quickly as it ran out of fuel. “When a star unleashes as much energy in a matter of days as our Sun does in several billion years, you know it's not going to remain visible for long,” NASA wrote in a blog post.

Cal Cunningham, the Democratic former state senator and Iraq war veteran who is locked in a closely watched and tight race to unseat Senator Thom Tillis of North Carolina, a Republican, apologized on Saturday after a report that he had exchanged romantic text messages with a woman who is not his wife.
Screenshots of some of the text messages first emerged on Thursday; the Cunningham campaign confirmed their authenticity on Saturday morning. In the messages, Mr. Cunningham, who is married and a father of two teenagers, calls the woman “historically sexy,” the two discuss kissing each other and Mr. Cunningham says he had dreamed about his time with the woman.
It is not clear when exactly the messages were exchanged, but they allude to “crazier fall schedules” and Mr. Cunningham writes that he is “nervous about the next 100 days.”
“I have hurt my family, disappointed my friends and am deeply sorry,” Mr. Cunningham said in a statement on Saturday morning. “The first step in repairing those relationships is taking complete responsibility, which I do.”

Bob Tarantino made up his mind on face masks long ago.
And the Sussex Realtor — who in April led a car caravan of business owners to a Madison rally protesting Gov. Tony Evers' coronavirus restrictions — isn't budging, even with the news that President Donald Trump has tested positive for COVID-19.
"My personal opinion is the masks will make everyone sicker, not from the COVID but from everything else that's going around in the winter," Tarantino said Friday.
To wear a mask or not continues to be a personal, political and cultural flash point in the country, even though the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention says face coverings can slow the spread of the novel coronavirus.
