"Sheriff's radio ad says 911 not best option, urges residents to take firearms classes"

From JSOnline:

"Milwaukee County Sheriff David A. Clarke Jr. set off alarm bells Friday with a radio spot some view as a call for citizens to arm themselves.

"In the radio ad, Clarke tells residents personal safety isn't a spectator sport anymore, and that 'I need you in the game.'

"'With officers laid off and furloughed, simply calling 911 and waiting is no longer your best option,' Clarke intones.

"'You could beg for mercy from a violent criminal, hide under the bed, or you can fight back.'
Clarke urges listeners to take a firearm safety course and handle a firearm 'so you can defend yourself until we get there.'

"'You have a duty to protect yourself and your family. We're partners now. Can I count on you?'"

I know that occasionally the Racine Police Department is stretched thin and they call upon surrounding communities for backup.  I would not want to be a victim of a violent crime during one of those "thin" times.  But I haven't armed myself, yet.

Scout Motto: BE PREPARED. which means you are always in a state of readiness in mind and body to do your DUTY.
Be Prepared in Mind and body by having disciplined yourself to be ready on a moments notice, so that you know the right thing to do at the right time and do it.
To act correctly at the right moment may be extreme, but practice increases your success.

I saw this last night on the news and was dumbfounded. I understand his frustration at cuts to his department at a time when violence and mayhem abound, but this method of making his point is irresponsible.

The feud between the police chief and the leader of the sherriff's department in Milwaukee is a disgrace. While I know both want the same things, a safer city, pitting them against each other for funding is tearing their effectiveness apart. There should be a collaboration instead.

I think it is time someone calls for his removal from office. See.... Racine isn't the only city whose politics and government is F'ed up.

San Bernadino falls into Chaos after Bankruptcy

"SAN BERNARDINO, Calif. — The gunshots ripped through a house party here, an hour before midnight on New Year’s Eve, wounding three and killing one. It was a brutal, if fitting, cap to a year that left this city bloody and broke.

"Lock your doors and load your guns,” the City Attorney, James F. Penman, said he routinely told worried residents asking how they can protect themselves.

This is one of the prices that cities often pay for falling into bankruptcy: the police force is cut, crime skyrockets and residents are left trying to ensure their own safety.

You are responsible for your own safety and the Police are not responsible.

Justices Rule Police Do Not Have a Constitutional Duty to Protect Someone

WASHINGTON, June 27 - The Supreme Court ruled on Monday that the police did not have a constitutional duty to protect a person from harm, even a woman who had obtained a court-issued protective order against a violent husband making an arrest mandatory for a violation.

Detroit Police Finally Admit what Gun Owners Have Always Known: The Police Can’t Protect You

In a move that is disheartening, the Detroit Police Department has officially given up maintaining the façade that police are able to adequately protect citizens. As fans came to Comerica Park to watch the Tigers beat the A’s on Saturday, they were greeted by 400 police officers, handing out fliers that cautioned people from entering Detroit. The headline of the flier read: “Attention: Enter Detroit at your Own Risk.”

Finally, the police are admitting what gun owners have known for years- police cannot protect the people from violence. Such a responsibility rests with each of us.

Of course, the City of Racine has it's very own Wilbert Thomas to remind the residents that the rough streets of Racine can be deadly - and that there is no Justice for their victims.

Enter Racine At Your Own Risk!

It makes perfect sense to me, has for the last 45 years.

When seconds count, the police are only minutes away..

In short...if you wanna survive, sometimes you gotta do what you gotta do.

Its not good or bad, it is just the way it it, or has become.

Flynn is a liar, has been manipulating serious crime stats for years. Milwaukee is a hell hole, just 10 times bigger than Racine. Milwaukee, like Racine lacks intelligent and honest leadership. Wake up people, you are responsible for your own safety and property.

I plan on creating Milwaukee County Corruption in the future, in part because of Flynn, Barrett and others.
The amount of info I get sent to racine county corruption (RCC) could be a full time job by itself.

Mayor Barrett calls himself the common sense Mayor, WTF What type of fool brings a cell phone to a crow bar fight, only a dumb pompous ass.

Bring on the gated and armed communities. I will not own nor use a gun. I would rather be dead than live like a barbarian or live in constant fear. There has to be a better solution.

I was watching my favorite news program this morning. They were discussing virulent viruses. Maybe that is where we are heading, since the proported "end of the world" thing didn't happen as some had predicted.

Timt49 said...

There is a better solution, but I don't expect it happening any time soon.

LBJ signed off with it and the rest is history.

Timt48 - OK --- I will ask.

What did LBJ sign off with?

For the first time in my life, I own a gun. I purchased s 12 gauge shotgun for turkey hunting, primarily. However, it is safely contained within reach if I ever have the need to defend my family. The last thing an evil-doer wants to hear is the "Click-Click" chambering of a shotgun shell.
