New Years Resolutions

It's the start of a new year and a great opportunity to make some changes in your life to make you a better person. What's that? You're perfect already? Maybe you should resolve to be less arrogant. (or less ignorant)
People usually fail to keep their resolutions because they make them too big or general. Keep them small and manageable. Don't say "I'm going to try to be a better person". That's too general. Choose a few specific things that would make you a better person.

Write them down.
Keep them small and manageable.
Set specific goals.
Set different start times. You don't have to start them all on Jan. 1st.

Here are mine:
1: I need to lower my cholesterol. I don't have a number goal yet. And I'm still working on my low fat menu.  I need to find out what's a realistic expectation.
It's around 200 right now. Is it possible to get it down 50 points by the middle of April?
I don't want to take drugs.
Several different types of fat, numbers and reading labels has me more confused that ever.
I've been searching for an "example" of a low cholesterol diet. One that says specifically what to eat, not one that says "eat lower fat meat". Lower that what?  If you have one, please pass it along.

2: I resolve to clean and organize half of my basement by the first of April.  Starting Jan 15th, three hours a week.
I have WAY too much stuff. I'm not a hoarder but I do hang on to stuff  just because I "might" need it or could use it some day.

3: To continue #2, I resolve to clean and organize the upstairs of my garage by the end of June.
Starting April 1st, at least three hours a week.

4: Say NO! Unless it's an emergency. It's seems that people are always asking me for help. When I help them, I don't get MY stuff done. "I'm sorry, I'm really busy and just don't have the time." That should do it.

That's enough for now. If I accomplish my goals early I can always add more.

What are yours?

I do know eating apples will lower your cholesterol and also if you drink a glass of water with Medamucil every day that will also lower it.

I have no resolutions. I need to, but I don't. Did we just have an earthquake?

Mary, did you? I checked the news and they all talk about Oklahoma earthquakes this past weekend.

"Write them down.
Keep them small and manageable.
Set specific goals."

That's good advice. I would add, "Take it one day at a time." I usually don't do New Year's resolutions, but I hope that the coming year holds positive changes in store for me.

Thanks for the blog, DodgeBoy.

Dodge Boy, I have no idea how old you are, but one thing you really need to do Is get the cholesterol down to a good number. You really need to see your Dr. and get a STATIN perhaps to assist your goal. You may also have High Blood Pressure, and your essentially a walking time bomb. The Med's are cheap compared to a Heart Attack, or Stroke. it can happen to anybody. I found cutting out FAT, particularly the fat that tastes so darn good on Prime Rib, Pork etc. are REALLY bad for cholesterol, so I don't eat them anymore. Well, sometimes I have just a taste. I stopped eating all of that junk out of vending machines also. Just do what's best for YOU.

1. continue losing weight, it's been a slow progression but in the right direction
2. purging, stuff and things that was negative
3. organize the house in general. That project began some time ago and is slow going, need to keep going and not fizzle out.
thanks Dodgeboy, here's to hoping we all succeed :)

I hope one of your resolutions is to write more blogs. Super to see you posting. I don't make formal proclamations on given days. I think it is easier to fail and then to give up.

I am continuing to work on my patience and focus. Kids try their darndest to throw you off your game when they are having a bad day. Their jabs are really not personal.

I'm also trying to maintain my patience with my own messiness, extra pounds, and procrastination. ;>

DodgeBoy, niacin (a B vitamin) helps lower cholesterol. Be sure to get the "flush-free" kind or you'll be beet red.

kk, your patience and focus are not the problem. The problem is the damn kids.
