"In a city with the states’s highest unemployment rate, we have a lot of hungry people. The Hospitality Center’s program has grown to meet the needs of those who are hungry, and in need of a friend. We are responding to what we believe by God we are called to do.

"Our updated Conditional Use Permit has to be approved by the city for us to be able to continue feeding our hungry brothers and sisters.

Dear Madame Zoltar

Hello, my patriotic public!  How are you?  We’ve been a little bit cool lately, but I’m not complaining.  “They” are currently predicting 80 degrees and sunshine on the 4^th of July.  So, you can be sure it’ll be 55 with freezing rain.  I hope you don’t mind my (un)friendly jabs at the National Weather Service.  I figured out they get drunk every day on the job.  That’s the only thing that explains their inaccuracies.

No matter the weather, I don’t plan on attending the parade.  Too much hoopla for me.  Junior, of course, will attend, looking at every girl along the route instead of the parade itself.  Señor Zanza and I plan to take it easy.  We’ll have a little cookout in the yard, weather permitting.  And that’s about it.  There’s no way I’d go to the fireworks.  Crowds bother me, while huge armies of human flesh, much of them drunk, packed like sardines into the nighttime sand, terrify me.  I love fireworks.  I also love my “personal space.”  The parade and fireworks display are for the children in all of us.  This “child” is staying home.

Unfortunately, Mr. Mayor Dickert is being the Grinch in this holiday.  He’s trying to close down the Hospitality Center in St. Luke’s Episcopal Church downtown.  Apparently, the needy aren’t part of the Ten Year Plan.  You can read more about it from Racine County Eye: http://racinecountyeye.com/hospitality-center-needs-new-conditional-use-permit/ With so much need and poverty throughout our city, it’s abhorrent that Mr. Mayor would try to shut down a shelter that helps because of doubtful complaints and bureaucratic BS.  Okay, off my soap box.

And back onto another one.  I’ve been aware for awhile of the plans to replace the portrait of Alexander Hamilton on the $10 bill with a woman of note.  Too be honest, I don’t really care if Mickey Mouse’s picture is on the money, just as long as it’s legal tender.  The other day, though, I started thinking about it and one of the notions that hit me was replace “Stonewall” Jackson on the $20 bill.  I never heard much about Hamilton’s escapades, but Mr. Jackson’s transgressions were numerous and open.  Nobody budged Mr. Stonewall unless he wanted to be budged.

Lo and behold, I discovered an editorial yesterday from The Chicago Tribune which addresses this very issue: “Editorial: Currency conversion: Harriet Tubman for the $20 bill, not the $10” - http://www.chicagotribune.com/news/opinion/editorials/ct-money-twenty-tubman-hamilton-jackson-20150625-story.html  Mr. Jackson was nasty.  A president, yes, but a nasty one.  I don’t have much feeling about which woman is used although The Chicago Tribune’s pushing for Ms. Harriet Tubman to replace Mr. Jackson is ironic, if nothing else. 

Because the 4^th of July is on a Saturday this year, I believe most employees are getting off Friday for the holiday.  That makes it a three-day weekend.  I do hope that people use moderation, but the 4^th of July is often an all day drunk.  There’s going to be a lot of Mojo floating around this weekend. Be careful!

I want you to be careful because I love you.  It’s really pretty simple.  I want my Irregular and regular friends to be safe and sound so that we can chat now and in future blogs.  I’m so selfish I want you to live forever.

Racine Firefighters Represented at my newphews funeral in Green Bay

Both Racine and Caledonia were there along with hundreds and hundreds of firefighters, paramedics from all over the state of Wisconsin.

the procession with trucks and ambulances had to be over a mile long. They didn't have an exact count that i could fine but they knew it was well over 60+ pieces of equipment.

Questions are now circulating as to how far Racine city officials are involved in this whole mess. "Michael Knight claims Blackwell and Machinery Row have not delivered on financial guarantees and have falsely represented themselves. Knight said he provided extensive and ongoing services covering several hundreds of hours to the project, such as reviewing and amending tax credit applications, He claims his services on the Machinery Row project included, meeting with public officials, negotiating with public entities, and working with lenders on project financing.

"RACINE — No less than 15 people have applied to temporarily fill a vacant seat on the Racine Unified School District’s Board of Education.

"The seat was formerly held by Lisa Parham, who resigned from the board earlier this month amid rumors that she has a felony conviction on her record and is therefore ineligible to hold public office in Wisconsin.

"She was elected in April and had been on the board for barely six weeks.

"District residents looking to fill her seat had a two-week period to submit paperwork to the district or any board member to apply for the position. That period ended at the end of business Thursday.

"The 15 candidates include former board member Guadalupe Rendón, 69, of Racine, who lost his seat on the board in April, and Bryn Biemeck, 29, of Racine, who also unsuccessfully ran for a seat on the board in April, as well as retiring City of Racine Development Director Brian O’Connell, 61, of Racine.

"The other candidates are Deborah Lynn Cappello, 51, of Racine, Nikki Fisher, 67, of Wind Point, Armintta Franklin, 55, of Racine, David Hall Jr., 59, of Wind Point, Marlo Harmon, 45, of Racine and who has previously ran for City Council, JoAnn Hattix, 57, of Racine, Kelly Highman, 40, of Racine, Larry Jones, 51, of Mount Pleasant, Stephen Kalmar II, 55, of Racine and former Racine poet laureate, John Koetz, 51, of Mount Pleasant, Yasin Mahdi, 32, of Racine, and Linda Thalacker, 67, of Mount Pleasant.

"The board will appoint one of these candidates at a special meeting at 6 p.m. Thursday July 2 at the district’s Administration Services Campus, 3109 Mount Pleasant St.

"The one appointed will temporarily fill the seat until it goes up for election in April."

Dear Madame Zoltar

Hello, my honeybees!  How are you?  We’re finally getting our summer heat and our summer storms, though we can’t compete with Ms. OKIE for storms or Ms. Beejay for heat.  That’s OK.  They can keep them.  Not that our local climate can’t get violent at times.  We had trees down and power outages after the last front went through, and there’ll be more.  When a cold front hits hot weather, a storm can erupt.  Some of the tornadoes I’ve seen online were monstrous in size.  How about a storm from hell four miles wide?  A home, a car, and all personal belongings are lost as a tornado sweeps them up, but does no damage to the house across the street.  Summer storms can be beautiful, and deadly.

So can illegal fireworks.  As we approach the 4^th of July, I believe we’ll see and/or hear more and more fireworks.  Maybe not.  In the city last year, it was comparatively quiet before, during, and after the 4^th of July.  Perhaps efforts have paid off.  Wow, what a concept.

The Journal Times has a story on our ongoing City Administrator problem: http://journaltimes.com/news/local/committee-defers-action-on-city-administrator-search-requests/article_deee1254-e719-5941-bc56-c9164a31e6b7.html I didn’t know that we have a problem here, but apparently Mr. Cousin Tom Fried does.  There’s mumbo-jumbo in this article about the cost of a nationwide search to replace Mr. Cousin.  More scare tactics.  How come there wasn’t a nationwide search when Mr. Cousin got the job?  He was decreed City Administrator by King lying John.  The Serfs Council approved of him.  Now we have this sticky wicket where nearly all city employees are losing money and benefits.  Streetlights come down.  And as more and more people are forced to bite the bullet, for some reason Mr. Mayor and Mr. Cousin think Mr. Cousin deserves a $30,000 raise. 

We’re losing ground out here.  Do any of you city officials give a damn about this?  I can no longer afford one of my prescriptions because my plan doesn’t cover it.  What are we supposed to do?  Day after day, we are beset by problems.  Day after day, you turn a blind eye.  Shame on you!  You represent the worst that humanity has to offer.  Your selfishness and greed are legendary.  Your pride goes before your fall.

"For the gut wrenchingly heartwarming story of the day we go to Hartlepool, Durham, England where a pair of stray dogs was recently rescued. An elderly Jack Russel named Glenn (so many first names) is completely blind in both eyes, but luckily he has a buddy named Buzz, a Staffordshire Bull Terrier who is the little dog’s own guide dog.

"Animal rescue staff found the unlikely duo abandoned in a sea tunnel. Now they are trying to find the inseparable pair a new home. They both become very upset if they are away from one another for more than a few minutes. This is understandable as Buzz acts as Glenn’s eyes. 

"They are currentlyliving at the Stray Aid center in Coxhoe where care givers say the approximately nine and ten year old dogs make quite the odd couple.  Centre manager John Bielby says;

"'They stay together at all times and Glenn follows Buzz wherever he goes. Wherever one goes the other one follows. They have behaved well in the kennels and they are both quite playful. They both seem to be doing well.'

"While getting on in years, the two dogs still love to run and play. The blind dog does well on his own, outside where he can run freely. However, indoors Glenn needs help so he doesn’t bump into things. The guide dog Buzz even helps Glenn find his food and into bed as he guides him around the kennel.
