Multiple people shot in Racine

From WISN12ABC:

It's unknown if anyone has been arrested in the shooting at 12th and Racine

Racine police are investigating an overnight shooting at 12th and Racine streets that left multiple people injured.

Racine police said the call first came in just after midnight.

Once on the scene, they said they found "numerous individuals suffering from gunshot wounds."

First responders took multiple people to the hospital, but police will not confirm how many.

A man who lives nearby, and who did not want to be identified, said he heard the gunfire.

"First, it was a lot of rapid-fire. Then it was a small pause and then more rapid-fire, so it was about 25-30 shots that I heard," he said.

"And what'd you do?" WISN 12 News reporter Hannah Hilyard asked.

"I went inside and told my fiancée, and we actually took the kids down on the floor so nothing bad could happen," he said.

Neighbors said the street is normally pretty quiet, but in the last couple of months, dangerous activity has started to pick up.

"It's kind of scary because it didn't used to be a bad neighborhood at least for this street, and right now, with this being the second time, it's like OK, it's kind of scary," neighbor Jose Lopez said.

It is unclear if anyone is in custody.

WISN 12 news has called the Racine Police Department multiple times asking for more information about the number of victims.

They have not responded to the questions on the phone or at the scene.

Any witnesses, or citizens with information, are urged to call the Racine Police Department Investigations Unit at 262-635-7756. Those who wish to remain anonymous may contact Crime Stoppers by phone at 262-636-9330, or through the Crime Stoppers app by using the P3 app.
