Miss Racine?

"Anderson Cooper tries a schizophrenia simulator"

I have friend in Kenosha who is schizophrenic. Not only does she hear voices, but she gets visual hallucinations, too. I can't imagine what it's like to live with that 24 hours a day.

Dear Madame Zoltar

Hello, my busy bees!  How are you?  I think last winter broke the thermostat of weather control central.  It’s June and some trees are just beginning to bud out.  It’s still cool at night, which is OK with me. I sleep better in a cool room.  With a hot man.  Oh my.

Public Service Announcement:  Lock your doors, windows, cars and garages.  Hide in your bomb shelter.  If you don’t have one, get under your bed and pray that the robbers won’t get you.  It really has gotten out of hand.  Theft, by burglary or robbery, has risen dramatically in Racine.  Now murder has been added to the mix.  People are tense.  And some establishments are locking and unlocking their doors only for known customers.  It’s like the city is locking down.

Señor Zanza says that his business has not done well lately.  I still don’t even know what business he’s in.  He seems to have a lot of money and he likes to share it with others.  That’s nice.  I don’t think he’s let me pay the bill at any restaurant ever.  My mysterious Mr. Señor Zanza.

Junior, of course, can’t wait for summer vacation to start.  He becomes more and more restless with each passing day.  I think he might explode before or on the last day of school.  I’ve tried teaching him relaxation strategies, but I don’t think his heart rate will slow down before summer vacation.  I’ll advise him then to get a summer job.  Unfortunately, in this economy, he doesn’t have much chance.  He’ll be competing with college graduates for menial work.  But I want him to have real world experiences even if it’s just looking for a summer job.  He must make getting a job a job.

I’ve never seen such a scarcity of jobs in Racine.  You have to know someone already working somewhere to get in.  A lot of people are doubling up with others to save money.  Every penny counts.  The recession is supposedly long over, but you don’t see much evidence locally.

Mr. Mayor Dickert is all over the Journal Times’ site today.  He and some other very important people had a little tent set up and importantly informed us that they’re going to develop along the Root River as their next scheme.  This will benefit us greatly and essentially save Racine.  Mr. Mayor’s 10 Year Plan is working.

Thank you all for stopping by today.  I love you all so much that I want to hug each one of you.  Maybe at the next get-together?  Thank you, again, for reading my blog.

Can’t find a job?  Contact: madamezoltar@jtirregulars.com

The weather is supposed to keep us drenched all day.  The rest of the week looks good.  Get out there and show them some JTI swagger!  Ventoseness!

"Thousands of naked bicyclists stage festive Portland protest ride"

Cyclists pour into the streets of Portland for the 11th annual World Naked Bike Ride June 7, 2014.
Credit: REUTERS/Steve Dipaola

From Reuters:

"(Reuters) - Thousands of bicyclists, many of them stark naked, poured into the streets of Portland, Oregon on Saturday night for the 11th annual World Naked Bike Ride, a protest that promotes bike riding as an alternative to driving cars.

"Nude cyclists with lights flashing in their tire spokes rang bells as they barreled down avenues lined with cheering spectators, while a naked, apparently pregnant woman rode in a bike trailer.

"'This is a party, but it's also a protest,' said Carl Larson, a ride spokesman. 'It is about oil dependence, cycling vulnerability and body' image.

"Cyclists showed up in Normandale Park an hour before the ride, shedding garments according to the ride theme 'as bare as you dare'.

"The rides are held in more than 75 U.S. cities and in more than 20 other countries, but Portland's is believed to be the largest, with more than 8,000 participants last year.

"But unlike events in other cities, the Portland ride works with local police, being considered as a protest. Officers direct traffic during what is generally a trouble-free event."

Root River Council INC. members Monte Osterman and Marty DeFatte, who plan to benefit from the sale, should thank the taxpayers of Racine."

"Wisconsin drunken driving group members resign"

From Madison.com:

"MADISON, Wis. (AP) — Four members of a working group studying ways to reduce drunken driving in Wisconsin — a state with notoriously lax laws — resigned Thursday and said bar and tavern owners have too much influence on the committee and are not interested in actually combatting the problem.

"The task force members said in their resignation letter to the head of the Wisconsin Department of Transportation that there was no willingness to correct errors, contributions from doctors and other experts were ignored, and 'procedural roadblocks' were put in place by state officials working to update the highway safety plan.

"Randy Romanski, safety programs chief at DOT who was coordinating the group, was not available to comment. A department spokeswoman said she was working on a response to the resignation letter.

"The resigning task force members said in their letter to DOT Secretary Mark Gottlieb that the only named non-governmental partner working with the department on the plan is the Tavern League of Wisconsin, which represents bar and tavern owners.

"'This group has — at best — a serious conflict of interest,' the letter said."

"OLD people have problems that you haven't even considered yet!"

From Mary:

An 85-year-old man was requested by his Doctor for a sperm count as part of his physical exam.

The doctor gave the man a jar and said, 'Take this jar home and bring back a  semen sample tomorrow.'

The  next day the 85-year-old man reappeared at the doctor's office and gave him the jar, which was as clean and empty as on the previous day.

The doctor asked what happened and the man explained, 'Well, doc, it's like this -- first I tried with my right hand, but nothing. Then I tried with my left hand, but still nothing.

'Then I asked my wife for help. She tried with her right hand, then with her  left, still nothing. She tried with her mouth, first with the teeth in, then with her teeth out, still nothing.

'We even called up Arleen, the lady next door and she tried too, first with  both hands, then an armpit, and she even tried squeezin' it between her knees, but still nothing..'

The doctor was shocked! 'You asked your neighbor?'

The old man replied, 'Yep, none of us could get the jar open.'

Strengths or weaknesses?

Quick question for ya'all -
what do you consider your greatest strength (s)
and greatest weakness (s) ?
This is what I'm wrestling with at the moment,
thought I'd throw the question out to all your folks :)

Dear Madame Zoltar

Hello, my wonderful wildflowers!  How are you?  We’re finally getting some sun, but every perennial suffered some winter damage.  Dead shrubs and trees are everywhere.  We’re already into June, but a lot of plants are barely blooming, if at all.

My, Racine has been hopping with news this week.

The Skies Fall Media/CAR25, Raine.tv and Belle.tv imbroglio continues imbroglioing along.  After all, it is only our money.

Mr. Curt Johnson apparently has agreed to a plea deal and his sentencing is this Friday.  I very much doubt he’ll receive jail or prison time.

I wonder if some of the robberies on the north side were copycat crimes.  I think one of the perpetrators has shot into a ceiling a couple or three times, but never have they killed before, and so needlessly.  They had their money.  Get the hell out.

Thank you everyone involved in the capture of Jesus Arroyo.  It’s great how our community comes together in times of need.

The reward on the bar robbers keeps going up and up.  Sooner or later, someone will rat them out.

We’re well into our festival season in Racine.  Keep your eyes on strangers and your wallet.  If it looks to good to be true, then it is too good to be true.  It’s such a different world from the one I grew up in.  I dislike the wariness and vigilance we must extend all the time in dealing with other human beings.

Of course, you’re always welcome here.  My readers, Irregular and otherwise, are my second family.  I’m always gladdened by visitors.

Which way, Racine?  Ask madamezoltar@jtirregulars.com

Happy 6th anniversary to the JTI.  We should be proud of ourselves.  I love all of you, my dears.  And don’t talk to strangers in handcuffs and belly chains.  Galeanthropy!

"The Belle Harbor Boondoggle"

From Racine Exposed:

"Yep – another Racine County Boondoggle. One of a growing list of many. If there was any justice for the taxpayer, some of the County Officials involved in this Boondoggle would be facing criminal charges. But the voters have forgotten, the names and faces have changed, and a new group of Racine County and City of Racine Officials are selling “Root Works“, along with County Ownership and Operation of ReefPoint Marina as the next get-rich quick scheme; and IT IS a get-rich quick scheme, for friends, cronies, and the politically connected, but NOT for the taxpayer. It is just another political wealth-transfer scheme and public rip-off."

"Wisconsin’s bar-to-grocery store ratio puts the rest of the country to shame"

From The Washington Post:

By Abby Phillip

"Drive around the state of Wisconsin and you're probably more likely to come across a bar than a grocery store.

"For Wisconsinites, this probably comes as no surprise, given the state's well-documented culture of drinking. The Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel launched a multi-part series  titled 'Wasted in Wisconsin,' which documented just how drunk Wisconsinites tend to be, and how often they don't know it.

"Stacked up against the rest of the country, however, the picture is pretty stark. Wisconsin's bars outnumber their grocery stores almost three to one, according to Google data mapped by FlowingData's  Nathan Yau."

Dear Madame Zoltar

Hello, my bloomers, late and early!  How are you?  It’s been wet and wetter this past week, but “they” are predicting clear skies for tomorrow and Friday.  I love the sun and the light, but I’m no fan of the heat.   Fear not: it’s supposed to be in the 60’s.  Perfect weather for planting, unless your flower beds are soggy.  The grass is growing faster than Junior or the Señor can cut it.  It grows so fast and stays so damp that the lawnmower gets clogged, a lot.  I cross myself whenever I see Junior working on unclogging the mower.  Junior and machines don’t particularly mesh very well.   Sooner or later, pieces of something or someone are going to fly by.

I’m sorry about missing my blog last week, but sometimes “emergencies” erupt.  Some of my higher class clientele must be handled with kid’s gloves.  When they call seeking help, I rush to their sides.

I also get calls from leaders of governments and the Armed Forces.  If I were to reveal their names, I’d be dead within 12 hours.

So last week I had to soothe a client, a respectable man, and a rich one.  He wanted me instantly.  He wouldn’t take ‘no’ for an answer.  He offered me any price to sit next to him and discuss his life.  How could I refuse?

So I booked a jet, but missed writing my JT Irregulars blog.  I hope you’ll forgive me.

Did your Memorial Day go well?  I salute all those who have served!  My family sat and talked with each other about the real meaning of Memorial Day.  We talked about sacrifice and country and duty.  We prayed together and we gave thanks for the freedoms we have that came with such a high cost.  It was also an opportunity for the Señor and me to teach Junior some things that he didn’t already know about History.

It all happens so fast now.  Going with yesterday’s Open Blog’s space theme, here’s a chance to relax:

That’s kind of a spacey and hypnotic video.  I give it three and a half stars.

To you, my dear readers, I give all of my love.  Have a wonderful day.  The sunshine is supposed to return tomorrow and hang around for awhile.

Is there something bothering you that you can’t confide in anyone?  Tell: madamezoltar@jtirregulars.com

Thank you for stopping by.  I love visitors.  And I love you.  The next time I speak with you will be in June.  What happened to spring?    We wuz robbed.  Kaon!

I have to admit, I've never been inside any accounting firm before.
My expectations of the atmosphere were
(HAPPILY!) shattered, the second I walked in.
I pictured suits and super a 'just business' setting.
Instead, I was greeted like I just came home. I felt immediately at ease, and welcomed. Part of what makes them unique is the fact that they are very professional while not being stiff and stuffy.
This was actually quite a nice, fun interview!
Thanks Tammy Lundgren!!

Felle, Lundgren & Associates, is a full service, accounting firm that began in 2001, and moved to their current location in 2011.
Most of the associates are CPA's. They can do just about everything -
payrolls, tax returns, pay bills for clients, help with financial planning, tax planning and more.
They are currently expanding the building with future plans of growing even more. How awesome to see a business growing!  Their staff are long term folks, as the work environment is very much like a family.

They are also very community minded and sponsor a variety of community events, including one coming up very soon, held in Kenosha.
Check out this fun opportunity!
June 7th and 8th, 10am - 5pm,
4051 5th Ave, Kenosha
There will be a Grand Launch of 500+ kites at noon.
This is a family event, free to all, with free parking!
The Chicago Fire Precision Kite Team will be performing 3 times a day.
There will be a giant 140 foot Octopus kite, can you imagine what a site that will be!
Free kites will be given away to kids just for stopping in at
Felle, Lundgren & Associates.
Whether you're a kid or a kid at heart, this sounds like so much fun!
Take the family, and enjoy this free event of amazing kite flying.

Fear not, I didn't forget about the 3 words she chose :)
1. Professional (but not stuffy!)
2. Friendly (for sure!!)
3. Detail oriented.

If you have a need they can meet, please check them out,
(don't forget to tell them you saw it here!)
and hopefully we'll see you at the Outta Sight Kite Flight!!

"Rojo’s Robbed at Gun Point Again"

From Racine County Eye:

By Heather Asiyanbi in Crime · May 25, 2014 · No comments

"Racine police are searching for the two suspects who robbed Rojo’s at gunpoint early Sunday morning.

"According to our friends at Racine Uncovered, the male suspects entered the bar, 1317 Yout Street, at 6:30 a.m. Sunday. Both were armed and fled the scene with an undisclosed amount of money.

"Witnesses described the suspects:
  • Suspect 1: black hoodie, black pants
  • Suspect 2: hoodie with white t-shirt hanging out the bottom, khaki pants
"Both suspects were wearing masks.

"This is the second time Rojo’s has been robbed by armed suspects since the beginning of March.

"Anyone with any information is urged to leave an anonymous tip with Crime Stoppers at (262) 636-9330; by email at www.racine.crimestoppers.web or by texting TIP417 to CRIMES (274637)"

"ReefPoint Marina 28 Years Later – Where Is The Money?"

From Racine Exposed:

"It is now 28 years later, and by all accounts, ReefPoint Marina, Festival Hall as part of the Civic Centre Complex, Belle Harbor Marina, Downtown Racine, and The City of Racine itself should be experiencing a financial windfall from the economic activity that was promised with this $35,000,000 plus Development. Instead, it has been a spectacular failure that continues to rely on taxpayer subsidies. Ownership of ReefPoint Marina has reverted back to the County (taxpayer), while the Counties sale of Belle Harbor Marina caught no bids because both Marinas have no value on the open real-estate market. Today they are not profitable,  there is no demand for the services available (overcapacity), and they will require massive investments just to maintain the infrastructure, much less any 'upgrades'. The taxpayer loses again!"

"Fair’s trial called off, plea hearing next week"

From The Journal Times.com:

May 23, 2014 11:38 pm • KRISTEN ZAMBO kristen.zambo@journaltimes.com

"RACINE — Former Racine Alderman Keith Fair won’t go on trial next week for allegedly attacking a pregnant employee after reaching a plea agreement with prosecutors.

"Fair, 61, is accused of hitting and choking the woman in 2011 while he was an alderman and she was pregnant and worked at his bar and private detective agency.

"During a bail bond hearing Friday for the woman who accused him of attacking her, Racine County Circuit Judge Allan 'Pat' Torhorst said Fair’s trial — slated for May 28 and May 29 — had been called off.

“'Mr. Fair ... has reached a settlement agreement and will not got to trial next Wednesday,' Torhorst said.

"Assistant District Attorney Robert Repischak declined to comment about the terms of the plea agreement after the hearing. A message was left Friday for Fair’s defense attorney, Vincent Bobot, but he wasn’t available for comment.

"When reached by phone Friday afternoon, Fair confirmed he has reached a plea deal with prosecutors, but declined to comment on its specifics."
