Dear Madame Zoltar

Hello, my rocks and rockettes!  How are you?  It got so cold here that the furnace kicked on.  The sun said, “summer,” but the wind said, “Ha!”  Looks like tonight’s going to be the coolest of the week.  It also looks like a cool week, with a small chance of making it to 80 and plenty of chances to make it into the 60’s.  I hope that’s the weather we get.  I haven’t turned on the air-conditioning yet this season.  And it IS the humidity more than the temperature.  Unfortunately, I’ve inherited the Zoltar family’s propensity to perspire profusely when the humidity is high.  I have a friend who married a frog.  He never sweats, no matter how hot it is and how hard he’s working, he stays dry.  That’s why I’ve nicknamed him The Frog.  My friend is not pleased.  I’ve told her she must be doing something wrong because no matter how she kisses The Frog, he never turns into a Prince Charming.  Or even Prince Pleasant.  Say, you don’t suppose she’s gay…?

The weather, the weather, the weather.  It was more or less marvelous for the 4th of July weekend; for the parades and fireworks and picnics and campouts.  I’ve a different friend who says he’s already watering part of his lawn and garden.  Certainly, we’ve had enough rain/sleet/snow/hail recently to maintain a lawn.  Right?  Or do we need more summer deluges before the season goes dormant in August and kicks back on in September?  The weather is almost never perfect for something you want to grow locally in season.  The long-range outlook is good as long as you can irrigate your crops.  That means your front and backyards, and the fields, too.

No matter what we do or don’t do, prices for some items will occasionally skyrocket, primarily due to weather-related shortages.  I believe in sustainability and proper soil management.  That minimizes the shortages, but there is always a shortage of some kind, and customers wondering if it isn’t BS to boost the bottom line.  Who knows?

Unfortunately, I’ve become quite cynical about the intentions of the average person. And I’ve definitely become more careful about my surroundings at all times.  I still go where I used to go, but now I’m much more careful.  Indoors and outdoors.

I’m much more vigilant of what I say and when and where.  I assume that politicians are crooks.  And as they climb the crooked ladder to “success,” they are ruthless.  Murder, for sure, and probably torture, too.  This is so unfortunate.  I used to trust and respect politicians and police.  It took years of beating it out of me to finally realize that it’s ALL about money, ALL of it.  I was the naïve idiot who was the last to figure it out.  I wanted so much to believe in at least some shred of decency in our government, but I found none.  Here there is no honesty.

Oh, I’m sorry dears.  I was in a mood and decided to fix the government.  There is always hope.  There has to be.  I do better when I don’t think about it too much.

Here’s a GIF of a cute baby flipping the world off as he falls asleep:

 That’s just how I feel.

Thank you, my dears, for joining me in my blog.  I love guests and readers.  Sometimes I get emotional at all the love that’s been shown me.

Who do you trust?  Ask: MadameZoltar@jtirregulars.com

Enjoy, enjoy the weather and outdoor activities.  Now’s the time to do all the stuff you wanted to do in January.  Have a great time.  I love you all.

Raymond Wi Parade and Fireworks

Drew and I had taken my daughters half sister to the Raymond Parade and Fireworks on the 4th of July. We did not want to deal with the crowds around here so I looked to see what else was around the area and this is what we found. There was not a lot of people and it was a small parade only about an hour long but was very nice and they did have things for the kids to do after the parade. This was on 76th st and 5Mile Rd. in Raymond. I was even able to park in a field right by the road for the parade and for the fireworks we park right on 76th st and watch the fireworks from the car, they shot the fireworks off behind the school. We all really enjoyed it and I would go back there again too. Here are some pictures to share with everyone.

There  is a lot more pictures from the parade with the tractors and more from the 5h club and snowmobile club. I just put some of the pictures. I hope everyone enjoys this.

"2 Wisconsin men die after falling into manure pit"

From JSOnline:

By The Associated Press - July 4, 2015 4:18 p.m.

"Bloomer -- Two Wisconsin men have died after falling into a manure pit and being overcome by the gases.

"The Chippewa County Sheriff's Office says it happened around 5 p.m. Thursday in the Town of Woodmohr.

"According to the sheriff's office, Jeremy Seibel and Rodney Seibel of Bloomer were trying to retrieve a piece of equipment that fell into the manure pit. They were overcome by the gas and became unresponsive.

"First responders pulled them from the pit, but efforts to revive them were unsuccessful.

"The National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health says manure pits can produce methane, hydrogen sulfide, carbon dioxide and ammonia.

"'The accumulation of these gases within the confined space of the manure pit can produce an oxygen-deficient, toxic, and/or explosive environment,' the agency says."

"Letter to the Editor: Support Hospitality Center’s Conditional Use Permit"

From Racine County Eye:

By Heather Asiyanbi in Community, Letter to the editor · July 2, 2015

Credit - Racine County Eye

"**Editor’s Note: The letter to the editor was submitted by Hospitality Center volunteer Leif Peterson."

"The Hospitality Center met with city officials. An application to amend the Conditional Use Permit that reflects current experience was submitted to allow RACINE’S LARGEST MEAL PROGRAM to continue to feed all of our hungry friends.

"In a city with the states’s highest unemployment rate, we have a lot of hungry people. The Hospitality Center’s program has grown to meet the needs of those who are hungry, and in need of a friend. We are responding to what we believe by God we are called to do.

"Our updated Conditional Use Permit has to be approved by the city for us to be able to continue feeding our hungry brothers and sisters.

"THERE ARE MANY OTHER MEAL PROGRAMS IN RACINE. HOW MANY OF THEM ARE REQUIRED TO HAVE A CONDITIONAL USE PERMIT TO OPERATE?
WE WOULD LIKE TO KNOW!

"Help the hungry! We hope you will speak and/or stand in support of the Hospitality Center (RACINE’S LARGEST MEAL PROGRAM) at City Hall on July 29th at 4:15 p.m.

"We also hope you will voice your support directly to the members of Racine’s Plan Commission. They need to hear your voices before the meeting, so they understand the will of the voting public.

"People Of Racine County Eye: Racine Street Lemonade Stand A Success"

From Racine County Eye:

By Denise Lockwood in Business, Community · July 2, 2015

"When Sandra Maldonado-Bonilla’s children, six-year-old Rita and seven-year-old Misael Bonilla wanted to go see the Disney movie Inside Out, she told them that they would need to raise their own money to go.

"But then Misael came up with an idea: Why not sell Kool-Aid and lemonade at a stand in front of their house for a few days and see if they can raise the money to go. They didn’t realize what kind of response they would get from the community."

Dear Madame Zoltar

Hello, my patriotic public!  How are you?  We’ve been a little bit cool lately, but I’m not complaining.  “They” are currently predicting 80 degrees and sunshine on the 4th of July.  So, you can be sure it’ll be 55 with freezing rain.  I hope you don’t mind my (un)friendly jabs at the National Weather Service.  I figured out they get drunk every day on the job.  That’s the only thing that explains their inaccuracies.

No matter the weather, I don’t plan on attending the parade.  Too much hoopla for me.  Junior, of course, will attend, looking at every girl along the route instead of the parade itself.  Señor Zanza and I plan to take it easy.  We’ll have a little cookout in the yard, weather permitting.  And that’s about it.  There’s no way I’d go to the fireworks.  Crowds bother me, while huge armies of human flesh, much of them drunk, packed like sardines into the nighttime sand, terrify me.  I love fireworks.  I also love my “personal space.”  The parade and fireworks display are for the children in all of us.  This “child” is staying home.

Unfortunately, Mr. Mayor Dickert is being the Grinch in this holiday.  He’s trying to close down the Hospitality Center in St. Luke’s Episcopal Church downtown.  Apparently, the needy aren’t part of the Ten Year Plan.  You can read more about it from Racine County Eye: http://racinecountyeye.com/hospitality-center-needs-new-conditional-use-permit/ With so much need and poverty throughout our city, it’s abhorrent that Mr. Mayor would try to shut down a shelter that helps because of doubtful complaints and bureaucratic BS.  Okay, off my soap box.

And back onto another one.  I’ve been aware for awhile of the plans to replace the portrait of Alexander Hamilton on the $10 bill with a woman of note.  Too be honest, I don’t really care if Mickey Mouse’s picture is on the money, just as long as it’s legal tender.  The other day, though, I started thinking about it and one of the notions that hit me was replace “Stonewall” Jackson on the $20 bill.  I never heard much about Hamilton’s escapades, but Mr. Jackson’s transgressions were numerous and open.  Nobody budged Mr. Stonewall unless he wanted to be budged.

Lo and behold, I discovered an editorial yesterday from The Chicago Tribune which addresses this very issue: “Editorial: Currency conversion: Harriet Tubman for the $20 bill, not the $10” - http://www.chicagotribune.com/news/opinion/editorials/ct-money-twenty-tubman-hamilton-jackson-20150625-story.html  Mr. Jackson was nasty.  A president, yes, but a nasty one.  I don’t have much feeling about which woman is used although The Chicago Tribune’s pushing for Ms. Harriet Tubman to replace Mr. Jackson is ironic, if nothing else.

Because the 4th of July is on a Saturday this year, I believe most employees are getting off Friday for the holiday.  That makes it a three-day weekend.  I do hope that people use moderation, but the 4th of July is often an all day drunk.  There’s going to be a lot of Mojo floating around this weekend. Be careful!

I want you to be careful because I love you.  It’s really pretty simple.  I want my Irregular and regular friends to be safe and sound so that we can chat now and in future blogs.  I’m so selfish I want you to live forever.

Does a Grinch need a City Administrator?  Ask MadameZoltar@jtirregulars.com

Thank you again, my dears, for reading my blog.  I like to share the love while I still make pointed accusations.  Too bad, but the JTI won’t have a float in this year’s 4th of July parade.  Just like every other year.

"Machinery Row and Rodney Blackwell hit with FRAUD & BREACH OF CONTRACT LAWSUIT!!"

From Racine Community Media:
"Racine- Another lawsuit has been filed against the Machinery Row project and Rodney Blackwell. This time it’s alleged fraud and breach of contract. Questions are now circulating as to how far Racine city officials are involved in this whole mess. Asked earlier in the week by the Racine Journal Times, both Mayor Dickert and City Administrator Tom Friedel declined to comment.

"Michael Knight claims Blackwell and Machinery Row have not delivered on financial guarantees and have falsely represented themselves. Knight said he provided extensive and ongoing services covering several hundreds of hours to the project, such as reviewing and amending tax credit applications, He claims his services on the Machinery Row project included, meeting with public officials, negotiating with public entities, and working with lenders on project financing.

"Knight is also seeking damages as determined by a trial.

"City Development Director Brian O’Connell who has been involved in a lot of the behind the scenes work for Machinery Row has just unexpectedly retired from his position as City Development Director with the city. O’Connell is now attempting to take Lisa Parham’s vacated seat on the Racine School Board."

"Open Unified seat draws a crowd"

From The Journal Times.com:

"RACINE — No less than 15 people have applied to temporarily fill a vacant seat on the Racine Unified School District’s Board of Education.

"The seat was formerly held by Lisa Parham, who resigned from the board earlier this month amid rumors that she has a felony conviction on her record and is therefore ineligible to hold public office in Wisconsin.

"She was elected in April and had been on the board for barely six weeks.

"District residents looking to fill her seat had a two-week period to submit paperwork to the district or any board member to apply for the position. That period ended at the end of business Thursday.

"The 15 candidates include former board member Guadalupe Rendón, 69, of Racine, who lost his seat on the board in April, and Bryn Biemeck, 29, of Racine, who also unsuccessfully ran for a seat on the board in April, as well as retiring City of Racine Development Director Brian O’Connell, 61, of Racine.

"The other candidates are Deborah Lynn Cappello, 51, of Racine, Nikki Fisher, 67, of Wind Point, Armintta Franklin, 55, of Racine, David Hall Jr., 59, of Wind Point, Marlo Harmon, 45, of Racine and who has previously ran for City Council, JoAnn Hattix, 57, of Racine, Kelly Highman, 40, of Racine, Larry Jones, 51, of Mount Pleasant, Stephen Kalmar II, 55, of Racine and former Racine poet laureate, John Koetz, 51, of Mount Pleasant, Yasin Mahdi, 32, of Racine, and Linda Thalacker, 67, of Mount Pleasant.

"The board will appoint one of these candidates at a special meeting at 6 p.m. Thursday July 2 at the district’s Administration Services Campus, 3109 Mount Pleasant St.

"The one appointed will temporarily fill the seat until it goes up for election in April."
