Can (and should) we cure blindness? | BBC Ideas

I, too, have optic neuropathy.  However, mine was caused by alcoholism.  My condition causes numerous, small blind spots in my central vision.  Last year, my optometrist signed my DMV license renewal with the stipulation that I no longer require glasses for driving.  I've worn glasses since I was 8 years old.  I feel wierd without glasses and wear them anyway.  And I need the bifocals to see things up close.  An opthamologist took that ability away from me when he replaced my eyes' lenses needlessly.  I've had so many unexpected side effects from medical procedures that I no longer consent to them. Many "doctors" are butchers.
