Communism: You're Doing It Wrong!
Today on Planet Money's Blog they report a German Bank is issuing a Karl Marx Mastercard. Yes, my irony meter went off scale to say the leaset!
Of course the wags over there had to start a meme to come up with the tagline for the card. You can check the comments on their blog or search twitter for the hashtag #marxcard
Two of my suggestions on twitter: "From each according to his abilities, to each according to his credit limit" and "Try the opiate of the Mastercard".
One of my favorites from other people: "The communist party takes your family in the middle of the night but they don't take American Express".

WTF?
That is what I get every time I log onto the site now. I assume that means everybody with Norton protection gets it. I'll try contacting them, but Symantec is notoriously difficult to work with.

"Aurora: Clinic doctors will stop admitting patients at All Saints"
From The Journal Times.com:
My mother and I share one of those Aurora doctors. We received letters today informing us of the change in policy. They've been pushing patients toward the Kenosha Aurora facilities for some time now. What a shame it is that we have just one hospital in Racine. The only time that mom gets admitted to the hospital anymore is through the Emergency Room. I have some surgery coming up, and I was wondering if they would do it at Wheaton. Now I know.
When our doctor left All Saints years ago, he was part of small band of doctors who left because they were unhappy with All Saints. None of them could practice in Racine for a year. Mom and I followed our doctor to Aurora in Oak Creek, and that's how we became affiliated with Aurora. I remember our doctor shaking my hand the first time I saw him in Oak Creek. He thanked me for my loyalty. He was back in Racine after a year and we stayed with him. Fifteen years later and now this. I know that mom will never make it to Kenosha, but now I'm wondering if I should stick with my doctor or switch to a Wheaton one. Kenosha is not that far, but it's far enough.
They once wanted me to do a urine flow test in Kenosha. They want you to arrive with your bladder bursting, but don't pee until they tell you to. How was I supposed to drive to Kenosha like that? I knew then that something like this was up. I just saw my doctor last week for a regular check-up. Some tests are scheduled in three weeks. I may see him after that. I'll play it by ear for now.
"RACINE — Seven Aurora Health Care primary care physicians at Racine
area clinics will soon no longer voluntarily admit patients to Wheaton
Franciscan-All Saints hospital.
"Instead, in the future those
doctors, who have more than 11,000 patients combined, will send them to
either of two Aurora hospitals — one in southwestern Kenosha and one in
Cudahy.
"Aurora spokesman Adam Beeson said Wednesday the change in policy will likely take effect in about 90 days."

Wednesday Grin
Meanwhile, the wife was sitting in the bed saying to herself, "Now how do I tell my husband that I've got really bad breath? I've been very lucky to keep it from him while we were courting, but as soon as he's lived with me for a week, he's bound to find out. Now how do I tell him gently?"
The husband finally plucks up enough courage to tell his wife and so he walks into the bedroom. He walks over to the bed, climbs over to his wife, puts his arm around her neck, moves his face very close to hers and says, "Darling, I've a confession to make."
And she says, "So have I, love."
To which he replies, "Don't tell me, you've eaten my socks."

Dear Madame Zoltar
Hello, my bodacious bon-bons! How are you?
Our weather continues in warm and sunny mode. Too much of a good thing? Many lawns around town have turned yellow and
brown. Our grass usually doesn’t go
dormant until late July or August. As
I’ve said before, we’re about a month ahead of schedule. The ground is hard as a rock. A little rain would go a long way.
I don’t even try to list all of the events occurring in and
around Racine at this time of
year. It’s like asking how many stars
are in the sky. I suggest checking The
Journal Times.com events calendar: http://www.journaltimes.com/calendar/ Events come and go daily. That’s where I found out about this, “Racine
Astronomical Society Open House, Fri, Jun 15 2012, 8:30 pm - 11:30 pm CDT:” http://www.journaltimes.com/calendar/outdoors/racine-astronomical-society-open-house/event_2eacb48a-b043-11e1-97a7-c32e561920e8.html The Racine Astronomical Society is a
wonderful group, http://www.rasastro.org/
Their website has a virtual tour of the grounds, which include the Modine-Benstead Observatory:
(Don’t forget, if you visit The Journal Times.com too much,
you’ll have to start paying them. Oh
my.)
“Summertime and the living is easy…” Or is it?
Road construction all over Racine
has made it anything but easy to get around.
I still do most of my traveling by automobile. (Astral projecting is not quite as accurate
as driving is, and a/p is an enormous drain on my psychic powers. I’d rather pay $4 a gallon for gas than try
to astral project around town.) There is
so much construction, and so many detours, that it has become trying just to go
from place to place. Where are the
flying cars that they promised us in the 1950’s? Personal helicopters would allow us to hop
from shop to shop. Why aren’t Racine
citizens given free Segways® and Hoverounds®? Why isn’t our Mr. Mayor Dickert
looking into these issues?
There is a stink afoot concerning a local police chief. Why do our area public officials get into so
much trouble? This is another black eye
for Racine, justified or not.
Lawsuit, charges against an alderman, another alderman making a ninny of
himself on TV, oh my, oh my.
Really? This is the best that we
can do? How utterly sad.
I will not end my blog on a negative note, my dears. You are my Positive Pollies; you are the ones
that lift my spirits when they flag.
Thank you for reading my blog today.
Thank you for every day.

Go, nuns! "Radical feminist themes" probably includes the notion that women are equal to men.
"A group of nuns touring the country will stop in Racine County next week.
"The tour, known as Nuns on the Bus, is making the drive to raise awareness of the work done by nuns throughout the country, after the Vatican leveled criticism at a group of sisters.
"As reported in the New York Times, the Vatican said the Leadership Conference of Women Religious had 'challenged church teaching on homosexuality and the male-only priesthood, and promoted "radical feminist themes incompatible with the Catholic faith."'
"The New York Times also reported the sisters were 'reprimanded for
making public statements that "disagree with your challenge the
bishops."' For example, the Times reported, during the 2010 health care
overhaul, American bishops opposed the plan, but many on the Leadership
Conference supported it."

Four for Fridays
Hello everyone! Welcome back to another weekly episode of Four for Fridays! It's been a long and tiring week for me and it isn't over yet... Anyways, here are some questions for you...
1) Have you ever been taken on a tour in a factory?
2) Do you prefer fans or an air conditioner?
3) Have you ever got bitten by a dog or stung by a bee?
4) What kind of allergies do you have?
Enjoy your weekend!

Dear Madame Zoltar
Hello, my vivacious violets!
How are you? Our spate of splendiferous
weather seems to sustain itself. From the non-winter of 2011-12 to the recent
days of sunny, mid-70’s balminess, it has been almost perfect. We could use rain, but who can complain? (Yes, I know.) I’ve had to water my garden a
few times, but it is no big deal. In
fact, it’s part of gardening. From the
early June returns, the weather appears favorable for the foreseeable
future. The days are so beautiful that I
want to ‘hoard’ them, to savor them later.
Well, of course, the big news today is the elecion. We all know who won, but I predict that this
is not over; it will continue in the courts.
Mr. Governor Walker cannot be recalled again during his term, but how
about a recount, my dears, and allegations of voting irregularity (the bad kind
– tee-hee)? Unortunately, I don’t see
our state ‘healing’ as a result of this.
And I don’t think it would be otherwise if the other side had won. Either way, it looks like Wisconsin
remains wounded.
Thank you so much to our tireless pollworkers throughout the
state who worked so hard and long on this electioon. You are the unsung heroes of every
election. This one was especially
trying. Bless you.
As noted in Mr. OrbsCorbs earlier blog, http://www.jtirregulars.com/2012/06/journal-times-launches-digital.html,
the JournalTimes.com becomes a pay site next week. Good luck to the Journal Times and to the people
who work there.
Believe it or not, we are now less than a month away from
the 4th of July, the premier celebration in Racine. I’m still waiting for spring fever to
hit. In fact, I’m still waiting for this
past winter to kick in. It is incredible
how time gains speed as we age. Is that
what Mr. Einstein meant by his ‘theory of relativity’?
Thank you, my dear readers, for stopping by to visit with me
today. I enjoy writing for you and your
pleasure. Your loyalty is a treasure I
cannot measure.
Who really won the election?
Find out: madamezoltar@jtirregulars.com.
Enjoy the fair weather, my lovelies. You deserve a break today. Take good care of yourselves. You are surrounded by more love than you
could ever imagine. Knissomancy!

Cucumbers
Updated
1.Cucumbers contain most of the vitamins you need every day, just one cucumber contains Vitamin B1, Vitamin B2, Vitamin B3, Vitamin B5, Vitamin B6, Folic Acid, Vitamin C, Calcium, Iron, Magnesium, Phosphorus, Potassium and Zinc.
2. Feeling tired in the afternoon, put down the caffeinated soda and pick up a cucumber. Cucumbers are a good source of B Vitamins and Carbohydrates that can provide that quick pick-me-up that can last for hours.
3. Tired of your bathroom mirror fogging up after a shower? Try rubbing a cucumber slice along the mirror, it will eliminate the fog and provide a soothing, spa-like fragrance.
4. Are grubs and slugs ruining your planting beds? Place a few slices in a small pie tin and your garden will be free of pests all season long. The chemicals in the cucumber react with the aluminium to give off a scent undetectable to humans but drive garden pests crazy and make them flee the area.
5 Looking for a fast and easy way to remove cellulite before going out or to the pool? Try rubbing a slice or two of cucumbers along your problem area for a few minutes, the phytochemicals in the cucumber cause the collagen in your skin to tighten, firming up the outer layer and reducing the visibility of cellulite. Works great on wrinkles too!!!
6.. Want to avoid a hangover or terrible headache? Eat a few cucumber slices before going to bed and wake up refreshed and headache free. Cucumbers contain enough sugar, B vitamins and electrolytes to replenish essential nutrients the body lost, keeping everything in equilibrium, avoiding both a hangover and headache!!
7 Looking to fight off that afternoon or evening snacking binge? Cucumbers have been used for centuries and often used by European trappers, traders and explores for quick meals to thwart off starvation.
8.Have an important meeting or job interview and you realize that you don't have enough time to polish your shoes? Rub a freshly cut cucumber over the shoe, its chemicals will provide a quick and durable shine that not only looks great but also repels water.
9. Out of WD 40 and need to fix a squeaky hinge? Take a cucumber slice and rub it along the problematic hinge, and voila, the squeak is gone!
10.Stressed out and don't have time for massage, facial or visit to the spa? Cut up an entire cucumber and place it in a boiling pot of water, the chemicals and nutrients from the cucumber will react with the boiling water and be released in the steam, creating a soothing, relaxing aroma that has been shown to reduce stress in new mothers and college students during final exams.
11. Just finish a business lunch and realize you don't have gum or mints? Take a slice of cucumber and press it to the roof of your mouth with your tongue for 30 seconds to eliminate bad breath, the phytochemcials will kill the bacteria in your mouth responsible for causing bad breath.
12. Looking for a 'green' way to clean your faucets, sinks or stainless steel? Take a slice of cucumber and rub it on the surface you want to clean, not only will it remove years of tarnish and bring back the shine, but is won't leave streaks and won't harm you fingers or fingernails while you clean.
13. Using a pen and made a mistake? Take the outside of the cucumber and slowly use it to erase the pen writing, also works great on crayons and markers that the kids have used to decorate the walls!!

Last Call For the Transit of Venus
Yep, we are less than 24 hours away from the last Venus transit to take place for the next 105.5 years! So you had better get out and see it.
Okay, as many of you may know, Venus orbits closer to the Sun than the Earth. It also orbits the Sun faster than the Earth so every now and then Venus will lap the Earth and pass between the Earth and the Sun. However, we don't get a transit every time Venus passes between the Earth and the Sun. This is due to the fact that Venus and the Earth don't orbit in exactly the same plane. Imagine each of our orbits is a hula hoop but they are not quite lined up. The hoops are tipped relative to each other. Venus might pass us when its orbit is slightly above Earth's or slightly below Earth's orbit. Therefore most of the time we see Venus pass slightly above the Sun or slightly below the Sun.
Transits occur in pairs separated by eight years. There was a transit of Venus in 2004 which I saw from Wisconsin rising over Lake Michigan. This is the second transit in the pair. The next pair won't start until 2117!
But not on June 5th/6th (depending on which side of the International Date Line you are on), 2012, Venus will pass directly between the Earth and the Sun. Venus will appear as a small dot on the surface of the Sun. The entire transit takes over six hours. In Tucson, Venus touches the edge of the Sun around 3:06pm MST and leaves the Sun around 8:47 MST...but the Sun sets around 7:30MST so we miss the end. That is true for most of North America...we see the first part of the transit only. You can find times for your location here.
People in Hawaii and East Asia get to see the whole transit. As you move into Europe, they see the transit at sunrise. Most of south America and west Africa are out of luck this time (hope they watched in 2004!) Here is a map showing who sees what.

First rule of observing the transit: NEVER LOOK AT THE SUN WITHOUT EYE PROTECTION. Sunglasses don't cut it. Get #14 welder's glass (any welder's shop will know why you are asking for it...they won't look at you funny, I promise), eclipse shades or a properly filtered telescope. If in doubt, leave it to the pros. You can also make a pinhole viewer quickly and cheaply (if you are in Tucson, I have solar eclipse glasses, just drop me a line!)
If you are clouded out, there are lots of online streams you can watch. The National Solar Observatory will have a stream and Universe Today promises to have a lively feed. Look for you local astronomy clubs...many are having viewing events. In Tucson, there is a big event on the University of Arizona Mall tomorrow with free telescope viewing. There are also free events at Tumamoc Hill and Ventana Canyon Resort in Tucson. I recommend going out and seeing it while the Sun is up and then joining the streams after the Sun goes down where you are to see the end.
I will be at NOAO with for the first part and then probably hit the east side of Tucson where I normall photograph sunset to take pictures with my scopes.
This is the last time you will get to see a transit of Venus unless you are planning on having your head frozen...don't rely on them figuring out how to reanimate you!

Partial Lunar Eclipse Photos
I managed to get up this morning for the partial lunar eclipse. I didn't try to get up and see the whole thing but just took a few photos near the maximum eclipse (in which Earth's shadow covered about 38% of the Moon).
First picture is with my usual setup: a Canon Digital Rebel Xti and a 70-300mm zoom lens.
I also had my Galileoscope ready to go with a webcam attached (everything was set up in my living room the night before!) I snapped a few quick pics with it as well.
I didn't stay up too much after this. The Moon was getting low in the sky and I would have had to go somewhere else to keep taking pics as it was about to go behind some trees and a building. Nice event and can't wait for the next total lunar eclipse!

Burglar Bars
Back in August of 2011, I took these pictures when the city was complaining about bars on windows. This first picture was taken on Washington Ave. in the Uptown area.
Today in the JT the owner of the property is facing numerous finds. Looking at the picture and the one posted by the JT the only difference is the guy took down the brick wall.
What burns me, we as homeowners have a weeds in the alley and our ass is dragged through the coals; check what this guy has going for himself....why isn't he in jail?
RACINE — After protracted enforcement, an Uptown businessman awaits sentencing on 16 municipal violations and scores of state violations, on top of a recent criminal misdemeanor conviction.
Nevrus Aliu, owner-operator of Tony’s Auto Sales & Service, 1323 Washington Ave., faces up to $759,515 in fines for city ordinance violations and $10,647 in fines in a Wisconsin Department of Transportation action.
See the complete article at:

Have you seen the article in the JT where the Mayor is going to veto a small business, a candy shop, from having “Burglar Bars” on their windows?
Mayor to veto Burglar Bars on Candy Shop
Copied from the JT, - "We have had a standing belief on the city plan commission that bars are a horrible example of what the city should be," Dickert said.
Here we have a lady just trying to protect her new business.
Have you ever been to the gas station on Ohio & Washington Ave? They have a 2” thick cage the attendants are behind; you pass your money under the partition in a little chute. Go there at 2 in the morning and there are two uniformed police officers there. They are trying to protect their employees and customers, what’s wrong with the candy store trying to protect their business.
Dino’s Pizza on 16th street, in their carryout area they pass your pizza out to you in a metal tray. They have had this tray for 25 plus years!
Just for grins I took a ride around the downtown area, The Peach of Racine and took a few pictures to share with you.
I was amazed driving through Racine the amount of fencing in this city, it’s everywhere and I’m talking about fencing with barbed wire on top of it!
This picture is from the Uptown area right on Wachington Ave/Hwy 20.
Twin Disc in the uptown area.
The JT downtown. They are protecting their trash. BUT there are also power transformers inside the fence which is required by law to protect from idiots. Play with them and you'll go up in smoke...fast!
Here we are gaurding a dirt pile on the lake front...
Another business protecting their property.
A very nice frece around our Water Dept. Don't want people steeling water. but we do need to keep the wrong people away from it!
Ooops...wrong blog
Another business protecting boats...
This one is good, keeping people out of a yard of trash..
Twin Disc, Case Company, Modine, Insinkerator and the list goes on. All these businesses have barbed wire around their property.
So what is worse Mr. Mayor, barbed wire or burglar bars making the city look bad?

Spring In Wisconsin Wildflowers 2!
Yes I have found the names of some more wildflowers to share with all of you. The pictures of the wildflowers are all from Colonial Park in Racine Wisconsin. I could not believe how many wildflowers we found out in one park.
This is a Bulbous Buttercup. This is really pretty and if you look there is a bulb for one more to bloom.
This is a Jack-In-The-Pulp-It. The come in purple or white flowers. Since I have taken this picture I see them all over now.
This is a Lily of the Valley. I really like this flower because it is very different and very pretty.
This is a Little Sweet Betsy Toadshape Trillium. This is really different and very hard to find the name of this flower.
This is a Robin's Plantain. Yes is some ways it does look like a daisy and also pretty.
This is a Sharp Lobed Hepatica. This flower was really hiding and I almost missed it in between bushes.
This is a Small Red Morning Glory Redstar Starflower. Yes a long name for this one. It is also a vine that is growing on a bush. This was at the beginning of the park and I seen it as we came into to the park. I had to have this picture.
This is Wild Rhubarb. I could not believe I seen this in the park and so much of it. I do have a picture of just a leaf and I think some of the leaves are about two feet long.
I know there are a lot of pictures but I just wanted to share them all with you. I hope you enjoy the pictures just as much as I am enjoying going and taking them. You are more than welcome to leave any comments!♥
