Help my PC is giving me a headache!

I seem to be having a problem with my MSN. Is anyone else experiencing a 'nonresponse' problem? I have shut my PC, disconnected it from the cable, powered it off, including unplugging it. Things will be okay for a bit and then, kaboom, it crashes. I have defragmented, checked for virus, you name it, I think I have tried everything. Any suggestions from you gurus???

What kind of arrangement do you have? Router, cable modem? How many PC's connected?

I am still unable to connect to my hotmail account through firefox. I get the non-response/timed out message too.

When I go into IE it loads perfectly. Joe mentioned it might be a flash player update needed? I have mine set to auto update so that wasn't the problem. I've checked all the settings. I've seen messages on message boards that I am not alone. I'm blaming Billy boy.

Not sure what to tell you beejay. Is this happening in Firefox? If so, have you tried IE? You can also try to dump cookies and the cache....?

kk, Firefox just updated to a new version and I've had some trouble with it since, too. Won't open Adobe acrobat files, flash update doesn't work, etc. I hope they're working on the bugs.

Beejay, is your computer crashing only when you're on MSN?

Only when I'm on MSN...If I use the Windows Live thingy, it seems okay....but the minute I want to use my old home page, kaboom. Guess, maybe I have to work with this Live thingy...

Well, I don't know about MSN (or Windows Live), but if it only happens when you're using that, then that's probably the problem. Can you contact support to see if others are having the same problem? If they are, it may be something that MSN has to work out.

Beejay, It is working fine for me. I can reach MSN.com and flip through a few different pages. If you are having problems with your Windows Live ID, it's probably them, not you.

My homepage is //my.msn.com and it was down for a day last week. The banner on the top came up and said the page was temporally unavailable. Ever since it’s been okay.

Beejay, have you tried any C4? That will definitely “blow” the bugs out of it...or snakes!

I used to be able to go to START>RUN>I'd type in msconfig, or config and back date the pc to before the problem started,It used to work on my other PC. This old dog I have now won't do it for me. Good luck. The tip I got from ORBS helps this pc..........go to TOOLS>INTERNET OPTIONS>DELETE files.while on there I delete history too....I have hardly any memory on this pc so i do this every day.

Well, I think Mdm Zoltar cured whatever it was. I still get a little hesitation, but nothing like I was experiencing. It is just plain weird.

I have plans to take the damn thing and have it looked at by one of those bloody geniuses...

I think I probably need to clean some crap out...

I noticed that some of my problems seem to start with Norton...anyone else have problems with them. They want me to buy more on line storage and I have no idea why I would need that? I have very little on this PC.

Opinions, oh lords of the ISPs!

Oh,and while my computer was up, I was gone most of the day ... tutoring, I think I am making progress and then I volunteer at the library bookstore. Lately, I feel like I am a freaking social worker when I do that. Tuesday is a busy day for me. Thanks, guys.

I run Norton Internet Security and SystemWorks. Norton is known to be a resource hog. Norton 360 is even more so. They claim that Internet Security 2009 is easier on the system. I'll find out when my subscription comes up (2 months).

Something you can do, or have someone do for you, is un-install all of your Norton products, then run their Norton Removal Tool to clean up the junk left behind, then re-install the programs.

Other people that I know simply use Avast free antivirus and the built-in Windows Firewall.

In this morning's paper, there was an article by our local pc guru, who says to go to internet options, hit advanced and reset IE...If it starts up again, I'll try that.
