Sturtevant couple faces drug charges, accused of dealing meth

From Fox6Now:

The Racine County Sheriff's Office arrested two persons in Sturtevant on Sunday, Dec. 19 who officials say are expected to face multiple drug charges.

A news release says shortly before 5 p.m. on Sunday, Racine County deputies conducted a crime prevention patrol at the Quality Inn on S. Sylvania Avenue in Sturtevant. While driving through the parking lot, a deputy saw a man who was sitting in a vehicle with the driver’s door open, making suspicious movements.

Due to past criminal activity in the area, deputies stopped and had a conversation with the man, who authorities identified as 49-year-old Paul Braun of Sturtevant. Braun told deputies he was trying to start his vehicle.

During this contact, one deputy utilized his K-9 partner and conducted an open-air sniff around the vehicle, the news release says. The K-9 alerted to the vehicle -- and the deputies searched the vehicle. During that search, deputies located methamphetamine and crack cocaine in a baggie behind the front passenger seat.

Officials say deputies determined Braun had been renting a room at the Quality Inn for several days with his girlfriend who authorities identified as Sara Domogalla, 40.

The deputies contacted Domogalla, who was the only person in the hotel room. Officials say a search of the room yielded additional methamphetamine, crack cocaine, and drug paraphernalia. The deputies located a total of 33.6 grams of methamphetamine and 2.1 grams of crack cocaine – in both the vehicle and hotel room.

Braun and Domogalla were transported to the Racine County Jail and are being held on the following charges:

Paul Braun

  • Possession of Methamphetamine with Intent to Deliver as a Repeat Drug Offender
  • Possession of Cocaine as a Repeat Drug Offender
  • Felony Bail Jumping (six counts)
  • Possession of Drug Paraphernalia

Braun is being held on a probation and parole hold. Braun also has multiple open felony cases in Burnett County and St. Croix County.

MILWAUKEE — The Wisconsin Department of Health Services (DHS) has issued a Public Health Advisory on Monday with the Omicron variant of COVID-19 looming.

DHS says 19 cases of the Omicron variant have been confirmed in the state and 5 percent of all positive tests are being sent to labs to detect the variant.

“This means that Omicron is here and spreading in Wisconsin” says DHS Secretary-designee Karen Timberlake.

Governor Tony Evers (D) issued a statement following the advisory.

“I urge every Wisconsinite to take immediate action and get the COVID-19 vaccine and your booster dose if you haven’t received it already—this is critically important for mitigating surges in hospitalizations and deaths across our state… Please get the vaccine, continue following public health best practices, and do your part to help slow the spread of the Omicron variant” said Evers.

Hospital capacity is a concern as there are more people in the hospital with COVID than any other time in 2021.

“Our healthcare organizations have been pushed to the breaking point, and it is quite possible that omicron will push us past the breaking point” said Dr. William Melms, Chief Medical Officer at Marshfield Clinic Healthcare System.

Dr. Melms’ hospital system and others across the state have delayed elective surgery because of the need to use the nursing staff in other parts of the hospital. Froedtert and the Medical College of Wisconsin says its had to delay deferrable surgeries that require beds in the hospital.

The state’s top infectious disease doctor says wearing a mask indoors, taking COVID tests before gathering with family this holiday weekend and keeping those gatherings small are ways to avoid spread. Most importantly, is getting the vaccine, says Dr. Ryan Westergaard.

“If you’ve been someone who’s decided to not get vaccinated at this point, please reconsider, please get vaccinated and get a booster dose for the sake of our collective public health," he said.

Rittenhouse conservative conference standing ovation

From Fox6Now:

A month after his acquittal on murder charges, Kyle Rittenhouse was given a standing ovation at a conservative group’s conference in Phoenix where panelists discussed the 2020 deadly shootings in Kenosha, Wisconsin.

Most of the comments during Monday’s discussion were made by other panelists, but the 18-year-old Rittenhouse reflected on how the trial had matured him and about his decision to take the stand to provide his account of the shootings.

The panel discussion was held by Turning Point USA, which organizes young conservative activists.

Rittenhouse was acquitted of all charges in the deaths of Joseph Rosenbaum and Anthony Huber and the wounding of Gaige Grosskreutz. The shooting occurred during a tumultuous night of protests over the shooting of a Black man, Jacob Blake, by a white Kenosha police officer.

Businesses in Kenosha were ransacked and burned in the nights that followed Blake’s shooting. Rittenhouse said that he went from his home in nearby Antioch, Illinois, to Kenosha to protect property from rioters but that he acted in self-defense after he came under attack and feared for his life.

Prosecutors portrayed Rittenhouse as a "wannabe soldier" who had gone looking for trouble, while his supporters regarded him as a patriot who took a stand against lawlessness.

CBD store owner faces felony charges after raid

From Fox6Now:

The owner of a CBD shop is facing criminal charges that could mean spending decades in prison. He says he’s innocent, but one store owner in his industry isn’t too sympathetic.

Chris Syrrakos is still behind the counter at Superstar Buds despite law enforcement raiding his business back in March.

"They destroyed my whole life, my family," said Syrrakos. "I’m facing 50 years for selling CBD."

Chris Syrrakos

Syrrakos closed his Superstar Buds store in Menomonee Falls following the raid and moved his business to West Allis, but he can’t escape the store’s history.

Syrrakos is facing nine felonies and two misdemeanors, including Possession with Intent to Deliver THC and Maintaining a Drug Trafficking Place.

"We never implied to anyone that we were selling marijuana which is what they’re accusing me of," said Syrrakos. "We were selling hemp."

A criminal complaint says an undercover officer made a series of purchases from Superstar Buds that revealed products with THC levels well-over the legal limit for hemp, which is 0.3% Delta 9 THC. Some vape cartridges that law enforcement brought to a lab for testing allegedly contained up to 40% Delta 9 THC.

Blomme child porn sentencing; state court director to speak

From Fox6Now:

The director of the state court system is expected to speak at the sentencing of a former Milwaukee County juvenile court judge, who pleaded guilty to child pornography charges this past fall, in what some in the legal community say is an "unprecedented" but warranted step, as federal prosecutors recommend more than a decade in prison.

Brett R. Blomme, 39, was indicted by a federal grand jury on two counts of distribution of child pornography in May. Blomme, who resigned from his position in the Milwaukee County Circuit Court in early September, pleaded guilty to both counts later that month. He is scheduled to be sentenced in the case this Wednesday.

On Monday, Dec. 20, prosecutors recommended Blomme be sentenced to between 12-15 years in prison on the charges, plus an additional 20 years of supervised release, based on federal sentencing guidelines. The penalty for a conviction on the charges calls for a 5-year minimum sentence.

"The defendant truly lived a double life. On one hand, he was an officer of the court who had a legal and ethical obligation to promote justice. He represented himself as someone who ‘[fought] for the most marginalized in our community,’" wrote Western District of Wisconsin Acting US Attorney Timothy O’Shea. "On the other hand, he was a purveyor of child pornography. He viewed and distributed child sexual abuse material to satisfy his own twisted and selfish desires."

Brett Blomme

Brett Blomme

A portion of the government’s sentencing memorandum was sealed as it "contains personally identifiable information related to individuals who are not currently charged."

A number of letters from Blomme’s siblings, in-laws, parents, husband, and his pastor, submitted to Chief U.S. District Judge James Peterson late Monday afternoon, speaking to Blomme’s character and asking for Peterson to consider a lesser sentence.

"These are the strong loving people who, long after the media has devoured Brett Blomme one final time, will stand with Brett – with ever-watchful eyes on him – for as long as he walks God’s Earth," wrote Blomme’s defense attorney, Chris Van Wagner, in the filing. "We ask you to give deep consideration to their testimonies and, as well, to their abiding commitment to help Brett live openly, honestly and in health in his life after prison."

When reached by phone Monday, Wisconsin State Court Director Hon. Randy Koschnick said he plans to briefly speak at the sentencing hearing, as he views the Wisconsin Court System "as one of the many victims of Mr. Blomme’s egregious criminal conduct."

In a letter to District Judge James Peterson, Koschnick wrote that Blomme’s use of children’s court internet to upload child pornography "left an indelible stain on the institution and the people who work there."

Milwaukee criminal defense attorney and former prosecutor Dan Adams, who is not associated with the case, calls Koschnick’s appearance on behalf of a state agency as a victim in a criminal proceeding is unprecedented, but a case that warrants it.

"This scandal, the Judge Blomme scandal, is probably the biggest scandal to hit the Milwaukee County courthouse – and maybe the state courts – in the history of our courts," said Adams. "You had a sitting judge, who is presiding over children’s cases, not only viewing but uploading child assault videos. It was very disturbing and I think Randy Koschnick’s decision to ask that the state courts be heard – as a victim – is an appropriate one."

 Brett Blomme

 Brett Blomme

Blomme, a former assistant public defender and past President & CEO of a Milwaukee LGBTQ+ foundation, was elected to the Milwaukee County Circuit Court in April 2020 and appointed to juvenile court. Less than a year later, Blomme would face state child pornography charges, accusing him of distributing child pornography – including while in the juvenile court facility.

Blomme was arrested and charged in Dane County in March 2021 with seven counts of child pornography possession. According to a criminal complaint, state criminal investigators received a tip from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC) that a Kik messaging user "dommasterbb" uploaded pictures and videos of child pornography on 27 occasions in October and November 2020, which were sent to other users. The verified email address and internet protocol addresses tracked back to Blomme, his Cottage Grove, Wis. home, a friend’s Milwaukee County home, and the Vel R. Phillips Juvenile Justice Center.

Blomme was released on a $500 signature bond and relieved of his court duties. Nearly two months later Blomme was indicted by a federal grand jury and has remained in custody since. He resigned from the bench in early September and pleaded guilty to the two federal counts later that month.

Koschnick adds Blomme violated the trust of the citizens who elected him, judges and children and families who appeared before the court, and created further burden for the courts, requiring retired judges to be assigned children’s court cases since Blomme’s arrest.

"As this court is no doubt aware, the children and families in children's court proceedings, who frequently suffer from unstable home environments as well as abuse, abandonment and neglect, generally benefit from the consistency of having the same elected or appointed judge presiding over their hearings as their cases make their way through the court system," Koschnick wrote. "By refusing to resign from his judicial position, Mr. Blomme has placed his self-interest ahead of the interests of the children, families and community that he was originally elected to serve."

Van Wagner opposed Koschnick’s request to speak at the sentencing. But Judge Peterson overruled Blomme’s objection saying federal rules require giving victims the opportunity to speak, but they don’t prohibit a judge from allowing others to do so.

"Blomme was a sitting state court judge when he committed his crime, and he used state court facilities in connection with it. The effect of Blomme's conduct on the state judiciary may be a pertinent sentencing consideration, and I see no unfair prejudice in Koschnick's written submission or his speaking at sentencing," said Peterson in an October order. "Of course, Blomme is entitled to respond to whatever Koschnick has to say."

Blomme’s sentencing is scheduled for Wednesday, Dec. 22 at 1 p.m. in Madison. The state case is still open. However, oftentimes if a person has been charged in both state and federal court relating to the same crime, state charges are generally dismissed at the conclusion of the federal case.

Jellystone Park Caledonia dog, SUV theft, $4K reward

From Fox6Now:

A holiday light display became the target of thieves on Friday night, Dec. 17. While visiting the Christmas Carnival of Lights in Caledonia, a family's SUV and dog were stolen. The vehicle has been found, but the dog is still missing.

The victim says the 2014 Land Rover was found on Milwaukee's south side Monday evening. Milwaukee police were on scene investigating, and unfortunately, her Boston Terrier was not inside.

It was supposed to be a night of holiday fun, but a drive through the Jellystone light display in Caledonia turned into a nightmare.

"The boys asked if we could stop inside the shop to go grab some hot cocoa and popcorn," said Jamie Soto.

Soto and her family only stopped for a few minutes, leaving the Land Rover running with 11-month-old Bruno inside.

"I go, and I’m looking," said Soto. "I’m asking my son like, ‘Where is the car, Armani?’ He was like, ‘It was right here.'"

When they came back out to the parking lot, the SUV and dog were gone.

"I'm yelling and screaming to the employees like, ‘My car is stolen. Can you guys call 911? My dog is in there.’ That's the most important thing to me," said Soto.

The last few days have been difficult, reflecting on the sweet puppy they got when he was just 2 months old. The family was expecting a memorable first holiday with him.

"I told my kids that I didn’t even want to have Christmas," said Soto.

On Monday evening, Soto's spirits were raised, only to be let down again. She says her car was spotted at 5th and Becher, but Bruno is still missing.

"That’s our baby," said Soto. "Everybody loved him. He’s like, the sweetest dog."

She is now asking the community to be on the lookout for her pup, hoping for a Christmas miracle.

"I want my dog, that’s all," said Soto.

Soto is offering a $4,000 reward for the safe return of Bruno.

If you know anything about where the dog might be, call Caledonia police.

Statement from Jellystone Park owners:

We are taking all of the necessary steps to resolve this and we have been in contact and are cooperating with the Caledonia Police Department. We feel very sorry for the family who has been impacted and can assure you our staff is fully committed to helping them during this time.

We have many procedures in place to ensure the safety of every single guest:

  • We have security on site every night of the show including increased security in the parking lot at Santa's Workshop (The Ember Lodge)
  • We have trained our staff to look for and respond to uncertain situations
  • If a guest should ever come to us with a concern, we will do everything we can to create a safe environment for them

We encourage all guests to please lock their vehicles when parking at Santa's Workshop. Doing so will allow our staff to identify and respond to uncertain situations more efficiently.

We will continue to stay updated on the situation with the Caledonia Police Department and will take all of the proper precautions to ensure the safety of every guest visiting our show.

Russia Says “Moment of Truth” has Come

Let’s just do it.

I’m ready.

RT:

Moscow’s new proposals for security guarantees are aimed at averting a potential military conflict with NATO, Russia’s deputy FM has said, noting that the country’s relations with the US-led bloc have reached a tipping point.

The comprehensive deal, proposed to the US and NATO this week, serves the best interests of all the parties involved, and is designed to avoid a potential military showdown through political dialogue, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Alexander Grushko said Saturday.

“[By proposing the deal] we make it clear that we are ready to talk about how to transform a military or a military-technical scenario into a political process that will strengthen the military security of all states within The Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE), Euro-Atlantic area and Eurasia,” Grushko told the Soloviev LIVE YouTube channel.

Should the West ignore Moscow’s attempt to rein in the tensions, Russia will resort to “creating counter-threats” of its own, the minister said, referring to potential deployment of new weapons systems within Russia’s borders.

“It will [then] be too late then to ask us why we’ve made such decisions, why we’ve deployed such systems,” he said.

Arguing that increasingly strained Russia-NATO relations have reached “the moment of truth,” which calls for a “fundamental decision,” the minister stressed that the ball is now in NATO’s court.

“We have taken this step and proceed from the fact that it will no longer be possible to somehow brush it [the security proposals] off.”

Russia has consistently offered peace proposals, and they’ve been rejected in the most off-handed and ridiculous ways, with the Brandon Administration claiming, nonsensically, that it is a core value of America to have NATO weapons in the Ukraine.

The impasse has been reached, and the only remaining option appears to be war.

It probably won’t happen tomorrow.

But you know – the US isn’t getting any stronger. Not only is the country collapsing internally, its military is rapidly becoming weird and incompetent.

They’ve definitely got some great hardware though!

If I were running Russia, I would cut communications with the West entirely after this latest rejection. Washington has already decided on war, and no one can deny that. If war doesn’t happen, it’s solely due to incompetence.

What I would do, if I were the Russians, would be pouring 100% of my resources into convincing China that it is in their best interests for Russia to not lose a war.

But maybe those discussions have already happened.

Maybe as soon as NATO moves on the Ukraine, China is going to move on Taiwan, and we’ll be in the countdown to the end of this evil empire.
