"Robbery and attempt 20 minutes apart"

"RACINE — Masked, armed subjects robbed one liquor store and tried to rob another convenience store in a span of about 20 minutes Thursday evening.
"The first store hit was Belle City Food Mart and Laundromat, 522 16th St., where the robbers found that the doors had been locked by employees. The second store, successfully robbed, was Colonial Liquors at 2813 Taylor Ave.
"Both incidents occurred around 7:30 p.m. and no one was injured at either store, according to Sgt. Tim Koetting of the Racine Police Department, but it is unclear if the same persons were responsible.
"Belle City Food Mart and Laundromat was also robbed by two armed, masked men Nov. 26 and Dec. 29. After the November robbery, owner Mazen Musa said the store had only been robbed once before in 23 years.
"Employee Osama Abdelkhaleq was working in the store during the December robbery and believed that the two men who attempted to rob the store Thursday were the same ones who robbed it last time.
“'They came up in the exact same way,' he said, showing surveillance video of the two men attempting to enter the locked doors, one clearly holding a gun. 'Since the last one, though, we’ve started getting smart and locking the doors.'
"After the last robbery, employees began keeping doors locked and manually letting customers in and out, according to Abdelkhaleq.
"Although he admitted that the policy can be tedious as a fellow employee rushed between the customers at the cash register and customers at the door, he said the security is worth the inconvenience.
“'I think it’s a lot better than leaving it open and letting someone come in with a gun,' Abdelkhaleq said."

I find it stunning and frightful that a business is reduced to locking and unlocking the door for customers in an attempt to prevent robbery. What have we become?

my research. Little did I know that this event is now spreading like wildfire –
being talked about all over less known alternative media sites and some social
network sites.

American Spring.' Released on December 20, 2013, at Patriots of America,
this movement is being covered on the Daily Paul, the Conservative Monster,
American Prepper Nation, American Liberty Riders, the Nutrifarm and the Birther
Report to name a few. Here is the concept to 'Operation American Spring' being
put forth by Harry Riley:
"Phase 1 – Field
millions, as many as ten million, patriots who will assemble in a non-violent,
physically unarmed (Spiritually/Constitutionally armed), display of unswerving
loyalty to the US Constitution and against the incumbent government leadership,

Hello, my frozen giblets!
How are you? How did you survive
the deep freeze? It’s still early
winter, so we could be in for much more.
Oh my. “They” say we’ll be into
the upper 30’s by this weekend. A heat
wave. Winter hardens you. I think I could sleep outside in the 30’s
now.
Oh, the weeping and gnashing of teeth over our Green Bay
Packer’s playoff loss last Sunday! The
lamentations may go on for weeks. The grieving
process takes time. Our once vivacious
Packers are now emasculated. Woe is us. We must mourn our loss. Oh gloom, oh gloom!
Señor Zanza and I took down our Christmas decorations. That is, I took down the interior ones, while
Señor Zanza fell off the roof and dragged down 90% of the outdoor decorations
with him. He’s sore, but OK. Despite Junior’s offer to “blast down” the
remaining 10% of decorations, they can stay up (or fall off) till next year.
Now begins the stretch of year that I dislike the most:
January and February. December can be
very difficult, too, as we well know this year, but the holidays can compensate
for that. The next two months are bleak
and cold. Even though I’ve already seen
the decorations up in stores, Valentine’s Day doesn’t cut it when it comes to
subzero temperatures and major snowstorms.
Keep Valentine’s Day and give me heat!
“They” are blaming a “polar vortex” for our frigid
weather. I have no idea what that means,
but it sounds impressive. If there's anything
we can do to “unpolarize” the vortex, or whatever has to be done, would someone
please do it? Something’s out of
whack. We get an ice age while Australia
burns. Or we get a mild winter while
other countries are buried in ice and snow.
“They” are “experts,” so use your expertise to help us, please.

CNN) — The Idaho man who slapped a crying 19-month-old boy on a Delta flight in February was sentenced Monday to eight months in prison, the man’s lawyer said.
Joe Rickey Hundley pleaded guilty to assault in federal court in October. Hundley’s attorney, Marcia Shein, said Hundley will report to a yet-to-be determined prison but didn’t say what the date would be. She said she respects the judge’s ruling but called the sentence “disproportionate” to the crime and added that it was two months longer than what prosecutors had recommended.
In February, Hundley was seated next to Jessica Bennett and her 19-month-old son in row 28 when Delta flight 721 from Minneapolis, Minnestoa, began its descent into Atlanta . When the baby began to cry, Hundley allegedly told Bennett to “shut that (N-word) baby up,” according to an FBI affidavit.
“(He) then turned around and slapped (the child) in the face with an open hand, which caused (him) to scream even louder,” the affidavit continued. The boy suffered a scratch below his right eye.
Shein said in a February statement that her client was in distress and grieving during the flight after learning the day before that his son was in a coma, after overdosing on insulin.
Hundley was headed to Atlanta to decide whether or not to take his son — who died the day after the flight — off life support.
Shein said Hundley “had paid a terrible price for his hurtful words but asks only that people understand that he was not doing well that night and spoke hurtful words he would have not otherwise have said.”

Windows 7
Four years ago, I bought an upgrade to Windows 7 on sale
from Microsoft. The plan was to install 7
on my then-computer, after I beefed up its hardware. It soon became apparent that it would be a
waste of money to spend any on an obsolete machine. The Windows 7 upgrade went into the closet
and wasn’t heard from again.
I recently moved and the upgrade resurfaced. Coincidentally, I bought a used computer

or XP installed. I chose XP. The new used machine can handle 7.
Microsoft support for XP ends this April. I’m going to have to reformat this hard drive
again, because I interrupted the installation of a program. After I reinstall XP, I’ve been thinking
about upgrading to 7.
I have zero knowledge about 7. So I was wondering if those of you have used
it would give me your opinion of it. I
really like XP and have no problems with it.

"Lights Out for 60 and 40-watt Bulbs"
I hate the light from CFL bulbs. I bought one for 12 bucks or so and it burned out after 6 months. Great cost savings, right? Was I supposed to bring it back, with no receipt, and tell them it burned out early? I replaced it with a regular 60 watt bulb and it's worked for years.
I know this is do-gooder legislation. All that ever does is foul up our lives. If everybody suddenly switched to these bulbs, do you think the power companies would let their profits dwindle? No, they'll just raise the rates or find some other way to extort the money from us. Every time that the government gets involved in private enterprise, it results in a mess. And who pays for the messes that the government makes? Do the people who make the messes have to clean them up? No, we do. Over and over and over.

When economic times are bad, many people turn to their

New Years Resolutions
It's the start of a new year and a great opportunity to make some changes in your life to make you a better person. What's that? You're perfect already? Maybe you should resolve to be less arrogant. (or less ignorant)
People usually fail to keep their resolutions because they make them too big or general. Keep them small and manageable. Don't say "I'm going to try to be a better person". That's too general. Choose a few specific things that would make you a better person.
Write them down.

Set different start times. You don't have to start them all on Jan. 1st.
Here are mine:
1: I need to lower my cholesterol. I don't have a number goal yet. And I'm still working on my low fat menu. I need to find out what's a realistic expectation.
It's around 200 right now. Is it possible to get it down 50 points by the middle of April?
I don't want to take drugs.
Several different types of fat, numbers and reading labels has me more confused that ever.
I've been searching for an "example" of a low cholesterol diet. One that says specifically what to eat, not one that says "eat lower fat meat". Lower that what? If you have one, please pass it along.
2: I resolve to clean and organize half of my basement by the first of April. Starting Jan 15th, three hours a week.
I have WAY too much stuff. I'm not a hoarder but I do hang on to stuff just because I "might" need it or could use it some day.
3: To continue #2, I resolve to clean and organize the upstairs of my garage by the end of June.
Starting April 1st, at least three hours a week.
4: Say NO! Unless it's an emergency. It's seems that people are always asking me for help. When I help them, I don't get MY stuff done. "I'm sorry, I'm really busy and just don't have the time." That should do it.
That's enough for now. If I accomplish my goals early I can always add more.

All better
Don't worry, I'm still here.
I hit a wicked funk that I got stuck in.
It was hard, and horrible. I had to take a step back from many things and work out whatever was going on (even I didn't know what it was).
Bottom line, if you're a parent, and think the things you do won't affect your kids years and decades later, think again and be very careful how you behave.
I thought I buried the monster, that was my past, only to have stupid incidents over the summer plant a seed that grew into a mess months later. Hopefully my mind will put it to rest, once and for all, and it won't come back to bite me again next year. I missed me, and didn't like who was left. I think I'm back and better than ever. The past can bite me, I'm so done with it!

Saguaro Star Trails
Just a quick star trails shot I did last night...well, if you can call 43 minutes quick. This is 103 exposures of 25 seconds each put together with StarStax to create this image from Saguaro National Park east in Tucson. I used my Canon 60D and Tokina 11-16mm f/2.8 lens at 11mm and f/2.8. I wanted the saguaros in the foreground. I didn't center on polaris since the farther west I pointed, the more the lights of Tucson interfered. Hope you like it.

Our Christmas Up North!
We left on Monday morning and we ended up running into some snow on the way up north. The roads got bad in Appleton when I dropped my youngest daughter off with my older daughter. Then we stopped in Shawano to drop of some gifts for Christmas Eve morning by my son's house and seen his girlfriend and the Grandkids. Then we finally made it to Pickeral by Drew's parents and let me tell you I was so happy to get out of the car for the day.
On the way to Drew's parents right before Lily Wi. we seen a Juvenile Bald Eagle. I was really neat it flew across the road in front of me twice and then went into a tree. So I stopped on a Hwy 55 a main road and it was snowy to get pictures. Here is a picture of the Juvenile Bald Eagle:
It was so nice to finally sit down and talk with his mom and dad when we got there. We miss being up north with both families so much. I have to say we all had a lot to sit there and talk about to get caught up and look at pictures too.
Then the next morning we had breakfast and then back to Shawano to open presents with the kids, Grandkids, my mom and younger sister. It was so funny with the Grandkids first they wanted Grandpa then they would come and sit on Grandma's lap and kept going back and forth. This was funny Ace only wanted to be on Grandpa's lap to open his presents and Skylee wanted to be with her Daddy to open hers.
Drew got the Packers Santa hat, a stocking and ornament from my older daughter and Ace wanted the hat on but Daddy kept taking it off him and Ace would take it back to Grandpa so he would put it back on him.
Grandpa seen this drum set and said we had to get it for Skylee so she can drive mom and dad crazy. You have to believe me we actually found it at a thrift store and in perfect condition. We also found Ace a little guitar there too.
Christmas morning we had breakfast with Drew's parents and then we had to go to Appleton by my older sister for an early dinner. We left there about 4pm and didn't get home until around 8pm because of the snowy highways. But of course I got us home and was so glad to be home and I stayed home all day today.
We had so much fun and enjoyed ourselves so much with both families. We really didn't want to come home because we just love it so much up there. I just can't wait for the weather to get better so we can go and see the family more often. This is how our trip up north was and we are so happy that we actually was able to make it to see everyone!

Hunting the Horsehead (and Other Christmas Eve Sites)
When I was in grade school and first getting into astronomy, the Horsehead Nebula was one of the most intriguing objects in the sky. It was on the top of the list of things I wanted to see. When I got my first little 60mm refracting telescope, I spend hours scanning Orion looking for it, never finding it...and of course never listening to people who told me (correctly) that it was WAY beyond the reach of a 60mm telescope!
Earlier this week, I had the pleasure of going out on a shoot with an excellent astrophotographer, Sean Parker (if you don't know his stuff, go look now!) He wanted to try out the iOptron Skytracker I had and he had borrowed a Canon 5D Mk III and a 70-200 f/2.8 lens so we had some great equipment to play with.
He took several shots of Orion using different exposures and got the Horsehead! I was thrilled to see this, but since this is a lifelong obsession of mine, I wasn't quite satisfied. I wanted to get a pic of it with my camera and my lens (even though neither my camera or lens are as good as what he was using). So Christmas Eve, I went out with my Canon 60D and EF-s 55-250mm zoom lens. Since my lens can't operate at f/2.8, I had to use longer exposure and higher ISO, but am pleased to report that yes, I got everything (although I didn't take and blend multiple exposures...I have a way to go before I get as good as Sean!)
The Orion Nebula is at the bottom right with the Running Man just to its upper left. In the far upper left of the image is the Flame Nebula. Now look closely in the pinkish haze to the lower right of the Flame and you will see a VERY small dark horsehead shape. I got the nebula! Yes, I nerd out over that.
Although this is the shot I really wanted, I of course took some others as well. I will start off with the Andromeda Galaxy.
Next I will go for the Pleiades. Notice the gas around it. We used to think (and some astronomers still mistakenly will say) that this is the cloud of gas and dust in which these young stars were born. However, the IRAS (Infrared Astronomy Satellite) mission showed that the stars were plowing through this gas at a high rate of speed. IRAS showed the shockwaves as the stars interact with the gas. Given the very different velocities of the stars and gas, this is almost certainly not where they were born.
Next I will go for the Pleiades. Notice the gas around it. The constellation of Auriga has a wealth of star clusters as it is in the heart of the winter Milky Way. A wide shot can capture three of them at once. M37 is the bottom of the three, M36 is the middle and M38 is at the top. The Messier objects aren't really in any particular order around the sky! These are all open clusters. The stars were born at the same time from the same cloud of gas and dust, but they are not gravitationally bound to each other so the stars will scatter around the galaxy as time goes on. They are not quite close enough together to get all three in the field of view of my 8x42 binoculars at one time...I can get either the two and the third will be just outside the field of view!
I will make one more stop here. This pari of galaxies is M81 and M82 about 10 million light years away in Ursa Major. M81 (on the right) is a spiral galaxy much like our own Milky Way. M82 on the left is an irregular galaxy (sometimes nicknamed the Cigar Galaxy) that recently passed nearby M81. The gravitational interaction between the galaxies led to a burst of star formation in M82. M82 is called (appropriately) a starburst galaxy.
Winter in Tucson is a great time to observe. The nights have not been too cold and the skies have been clear. I hope to get out and do some very wide field stuff in the next few days and hope that it is clear this weekend as we have our great ISS passes coming up.
